Chapter 49

Epilogue

TEGA

It's been about a month since Enohor was found to be still alive.

I would say a lot happened during the past month.

After we had gotten back to Enugu state, my mother demanded that she wanted a divorce. I pleaded with her because I didn't want to end up not having a father even though I knew that my actual father didn't deserve to be called one.

This time, she didn't listen, she got what she wanted and we had to move out of the house.

We stayed in her friend's house for the rest of the holiday, until recently when my mother's friend had a baby and insisted we move out because her husband didn't want us there anymore.

I told Kemi everything during the holiday, through the phone Sister Kemo eventually let me keep.

And now, my family and I live in the same roof with Kemi's family for the time being.

Enohor has certainly gotten a lot better. We discovered she had some infections even with the malnutrition and my mother had to spend a lot to ensure that Enohor got better.

Despite all that, I was still able to study for my Junior WAEC. My mother had stopped my previous lesson teacher who barely came to teach at all but still got his full payment at the end of every month which was obviously unfair and my Dad's doing.

I was provided with enough learning materials and past questions while Sister Kemo tutored me.

After Enohor got better, she had a lot of catching up to do in terms of school work. She had just missed the last term of her nursery three class and the first term of Primary one which she was able to catch up on through online lessons.

Apparently, my mother had studied Accounting in the University but had to become a house wife instead, to take care of us when my father wasn't around.

She was fortunate to get a job at a well known company as an Accountant, of course.

School had resumed two weeks ago and it seemed to be going well, except for the fact that RoseMary, Williams, Kosi, Bella and Amanda are not in good terms.

Sister Kemo said she had had enough of my complaints about them and promised to report them to the Principal once the school resumed.

She said that to me after I told her about everything that had happened in the Christmas party and the rumor of the kissing video.

Though, she couldn't do so last two weeks but no doubt, she still would anyways.

I was in my classroom today, taking Business studies as the second to the last subject we would have before the school's dismissal when the secretary excused me from class saying I was needed at the Principal's office.

On getting there, I saw Sister Kemo and my mother seated comfortably on two seats. I was surprised to see Chiamaka, Kosi, Williams, Bella, Amanda and RoseMary on their knees by a large cupboard.

"Tega, have a seat" The Principal said. She spoke so calmly, which for odd reasons, made me feel as if the current issue at hand which I wasn't aware of was really nerve-wrecking.

I took a seat by my mother and greeted the Principal, my mother and Sister Kemo.

"I believe these six girls are your classmates" The Principal started off.

"Yes ma" I replied.

"You! The fair one with long hair, move a little distance away from the others!" She ordered.

"I got some serious complaints about them, most especially from your sister here" She said, pointing at Sister Kemo.

"Did one of them wrongly accuse you of damaging her school project or assignment?" She asked.

"Yes ma, but that was a long time ago" I said, slightly bowing my head.

She continued further, "Did they lock you up in school until the next day after the school was dismissed?".

"Yes ma"

"Did they threaten to destroy your friendship with a certain young man who goes by the name of Kemi just because they liked him?".

"Yes ma"

"How many times did they do that?"

"Severally ma"

"How many times did they claim that they hated you?"

"Severally ma"

"Who destroyed your locket?"

I raised my fingers and pointed at Chiamaka.

"Chiamaka"

"Chiamaka move away from those four as well" The principal said.

"Was that all she did?"

"No ma, She also bullied me and threatened me severally just to get my seat in the front row and that was why she destroyed my locket"

"Who and who were responsible for the creation of a fake video of you kissing a boy who's your classmate I assume?"

"Kosi, Williams, RoseMary, Bella and Amanda" I said.

"Why did you do that?" She asked them, but they all kept mute, none of them willing to speak up.

"I would flog you all because I am greatly disappointed that all these happened in a mission school but as a Reverend Sister I cannot. Instead, I would let the Chemistry teacher flog you" She smiled.

"After the flogging, the four of you should pack your belongings and leave this school. Go home" She said, pointing at Kosi, Williams, Bella and Amanda, "You guys are, henceforth, expelled from this school".

"And you two get two weeks suspension" She said, pointing at RoseMary and Chiamaka.

All six of them began begging and pleading, with Sister Kemo, My mum, me, the Principal, whoever that would listen.

Just then, the chemistry teacher walked into the Principal's office with a long thin came which looked newly bought.

He started with Chiamaka. Each strokes and lashes felt like hot water, each of different boiling points and hotter than the other, being poured on them and stung their body badly.

I was allowed to go back to class again but at the time Business studies period was over.

School was finally over and I told Kemi everything that happened as we got out of the school building.

"Omo! Judgment day has come oo!" He chuckled.

"Those girls certainly deserved what they got. I'm just happy they'll leave you alone for good now" He said.

"Yeah, me too. It feels like a huge lump of weight has suddenly been lifted off my shoulders" I giggled.

"Yeah" He said.

There was a brief silence between the both of us, though I felt comfortable.

Suddenly, I heard a voice shouting my name from behind.

"Tega! Tega!! Tega!!!"

I looked back and smiled when I saw Zane running after me.

"Sorry, I...didn't...tell....you...this...sooner" He panted.

"Is this about that stuff we talked about?" Kemi asked mischievously.

"Yeah" Zane said, using his hand to rub the back of his neck.

Kemi chuckled, "Tega, I forgot something upstairs, be right back".

When Kemi was out of sight, I looked at Zane who looked really nervous, if not scared.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"Yeah, yeah. It's just..." He trailed off.

"Yeah?" I asked.

"What would you do if I told you I like you?" He asked.

That question startled me for a second, like, why would he ask me that. . .unless he......

"Well, to be honest Zane, I would scream, I would laugh, I would hug you, I would run about in excitement, I would, I would. . .say I like you too" I smiled.

His eyes widened in suprise and amazement.

"Then, I like you Tega, like a lot and I mean a loot. Even though I just came to this school like, last term. . you've been the source of my happiness ever since" He smiled.

"Aww, I like you too Zane" I said and pulled him in for a hug.

Kemi came out of nowhere, laughing and clapping.

"Congratulations to the newest couple in Town. Zane and Tega, now Mr. and Mrs. Osagie".

I ran after Kemi and hit him playfully as Zane just stood there watching I and Kemi fight.

"I heard someone say that Tega got married" Enohor's tiny cute voice came out of nowhere.

"Who did she marry? Is it you?" She asked, making emphasis on the word "you".

Zane giggled nervously, "Of course not, ask your sister, she's single".

I smiled in satisfaction.

"Kinda" I heard him mutter but giggled silently.

"Then who did Tega get married to? Mummy!! Tega got married and she doesn't want to tell me who her husband is" She yelled.

"Shh, I'll tell you" I said.

"It's that Ken doll mummy newly bought for you. Ken and I are going to live in Barbie's doll house now" I lied.

"Really?" I couldn't believe she was actually buying it.

"Yeah" I said.

"Who's Tega marrying?" My mum asked, looking skeptically at me.

"She's marrying my Ken doll mummy but she's doesn't know that Barbie's gonna kick them out of her house when they move in" Enohor giggled and skipped to a corner.

"Mummy, I thought you and Sister Kemo went back home?" I asked.

"We wanted to, until we found out it was almost closing time so we decided to stay" She said, and walked away.

When she was gone, I breathed out a sigh of relief and then, turned around to face Kemi.

"Kemi see what you caused. You want to put me in trouble?!" I asked, feigning anger.

"Uuuh, All man for himself!!" He yelled running away with Enohor on his back.

"Kemi! Get back here with my sister. Kemi!!" I yelled as Zane and I ran after him.

And that was it.

The rest of my secondary school years were peaceful, mostly, anyways and I was finally glad that I was able to overcome all those drama, both family related, friends and school.

So, I'm happy to say that, This was my story and this is my happy ending.
