Trusting problems
TEGA
There were no free periods today and it seemed like all my classmates were bothered by it.
During our Agricultural science period which was the last period before break time, I glanced at the students around me.
Some were secretly snoozing off, some were continuously looking at the wall clock or their wrist watches, others were whispering to their friends, some of them were trying to pay attention to the teacher but their eyes were sleepy. I was part of that group, mostly because I stayed up until 2:00 AM in the morning reading a new book my mother bought me, titled "It ain't so awful falafel" and woke up 5:00 AM to prepare for school.
The rest of the students were paying attention to the teacher like there was no tomorrow.
I was trying my best to pay attention to the teacher and considered asking my classmates for pegs because my eyes were about to drop when someone threw a paper at me. I looked up to see who it was, I couldn't figure out who did that. I opened the paper and discovered it was a letter.
Dear Tega,
I don't know if you've ever noticed me in the class before but I've always admired you. Your neat dressing, your brilliance, your Urhobo accent, and many more. I heard you're no longer best friends with Williams and Amanda, Bella and Kosi are not part of your quad anymore so I want to use this opportunity to ask you if you'll be my best friend. Please think about it and don't hurt my feelings.
Your Classmate,
Amarachi.
I was surprised. . .And angry at the same time.
Don't hurt her feelings? Really?!
I didn't want any close friends, and definitely not a best friend. I didn't want to end up disappointed or make the person hate me for unreasonable reasons. I believed I've thought enough.
Dear Amarachi,
I've thought about it and have decided to not be best friends with you. There were somethings that happened previously and I'm having trust issues. I believe it's better if we just stay friends. You'll find a better best friend.
Tega.
I sent the letter to her hoping she wouldn't feel hurt. Kemi didn't come to school today so I decided to write down some songs in my song book while eating my lunch during lunch break. Not my original song though, but songs I loved listening to alot.
Girl on Fire - By Alicia Keys
She's just a girl and she's on fire,
Hotter than a fantasy,
Lonely like a highway,
She's looking in a world and it's on fire,
Filled with catastrophe but she knows she can fly away,
O-o-o-o-o, she's got both feet on the ground and she's burning it down,
O-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o, She's got her head in the cloud and she's not backing down,
This girl is on fire,
This girl is on fire,
She's looking on fire,
This girl is ok fire,
O-o-o, Everybody stares as she goes by cos they can see the flame that's in her eyes ------
"Tega".
Uh! I hate it when someone interrupts me when I'm in the middle of a song, they keep doing that!
"What is it?!" I replied, obviously annoyed.
I looked up to see who had disturbed me and I fell silent.
Daniel.
"Sorry to disturb you, you look so different doing what you're doing". He said.
I tried to say something but all that came out was. "Eep!".
"Uuuh, ok". He said. "What are you doing anyway?". I continued to stare at him completely frozen
"Song, yes, umm, singing" Yes! I said something.
"Cool, so you can sing? Can I hear you? okay, let's see". He looked through my book. "Sing the Girl on fire song in your book". I gulped.
Immediately, I heard someone clear their throat. I turned to see who it was.
Kosi? She's still sitting there?
I felt uncomfortable. I was in so much trouble.
"Da-Daniel, Kosi is a good singer too. I'm sure she'll love to sing some of the songs in her book. I-I have to go" I managed to say, Kosi smiled and I ran out of the class. I didn't want to get into trouble. I sat alone at the back of the school and ate the rest of my lunch.
