Chapter 13

Hell's Personal Assassin: Book 1

"Oh my stars, what happened here?" the nurse exclaimed with worry when we opened the door and came in, her pencil dropping out of her hand as the old woman scurried over to us.

The nurse, believe it or not, was actually a pretty close friend of mine from freshman year to junior year. Her and I formed a very close bond, to the point where I thought of her as family.

"We found her on the ground completely passed out, so we brought her here," the woman next to me said with her lips turned down slightly.

"We were thinking you might be able to do something to help her," the guy carrying me added, carefully placing me on the bed and then sitting down next to me.

"Well, I'm fine, so you guys don't have to worry about me," I said as my head started to throb even more, making me hiss in pain and grab my forehead.

"You are obviously not fine, just let us help you," the guy next to me sighed out, making me narrow my eyes at him as I held onto my forehead, before grumbling out an incoherent reply and lying down on the stiff nurse beds.

"Honey, do you know why you passed out?" the woman asked me, making me turn to her with a blank expression. Why won't they leave me alone?

"No, I don't remember," I answered in monotone, before closing my eyes and laying back onto the bed comfortably.

"Do you remember anything that happened?" the nurse asked, my head shaking in response.

"Nope," I drawled, feeling something touching my thigh.

"Okay, well... I'm sorry, but I need to get back into the office and work. I hope you feel better," the woman said to me awkwardly, before I heard the fading of footsteps– the thing still touching my thigh.

"I'll be right back as well," the nurse said, making my eyes snap open as if someone slapped me. She's leaving her office? What about the guy and me? "Give two seconds, I just need to print something out," she finished with a polite smile as she started to speed-walk to the door.

"What about me?" I asked quietly, my voice suddenly failing me.

"Don't worry. I trust Vladimir. You'll be safe with him," the nurse measured, making my jaw drop.

She's kidding me, right? Vladimir? Like a vampire? They're vampires in this world too?

"No, I'm not a vampire," the guy sighed out, making my eyes widen and turn to him, giving me a whiplash. I groaned as I held my forehead in my hands, seeing nothing but blackness for a couple seconds. I felt him holding me steady by my shoulders, which made me grateful and angry at the same time.

I mean, it's nice that he cares, but I can take care of myself.

"How did you know I was thinking that?" I asked, making him chuckle a little before looking at me with a serious look.

"It's because I can read minds," he stated, making my eyes widen even more.

"You have to be joking," I blurted out, making him snort and cackle.

"Nah, you're right, I was just joking," Vladimir chuckled out, making me hold back a sigh of relief. "Everyone always asks if I'm a vampire because of my name. Wether they're genuinely curious or making fun of me, I don't know, but after a while I would start to pull these jo-"

"Yeah, that's nice," I murmured as I sat up on the bed, noticing that the thing touching my thigh was his hand resting on my leg. "Could you..." I trailed off looking down at his arm, making his eyebrows furrow as he turned his head to look where I was staring.

"Oh!" he blurted, making me wince in pain as he removed his hand from my leg. "Oh. Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry," he said nervously, bringing his hand over to my face, but stopping half-way in hesitation before dropping it to his side. "Are you okay? I didn't mean t-"

"I'm fine, just... Don't yell," I murmured, my head throbbing even more than they were before.

"Hey, are you... Wearing contacts?" he asked after what felt like an hour of silence, making my heart stop.

Shit, I forgot about my eyes.

"What do you mean?" I asked slowly, making his head tilt to the side.

"Because your eyes are a brown color, but right now they're... like a really pale blue... almost white," he answered, moving closer to me to see my eyes. "Like they're... losing color," he added, making me die inside.

What did that mean?

"I'm ba–... Am I interrupting something?" the nurse asked, looking at us with a knowing smirk, making both of our eyebrows furrow in confusion.

"What?" we asked at the same time as we turned to look at each other, not understanding what she meant.

That's when I think both of us realized we were at a kissing distance.

"No!" both of us yelling, jumping away from each other.

"No, it's not that at all," I blurted out quickly as Validmir's neck started to turn red.

"I was just checking up on her, grandma," he murmured, making me choke on my own spit.

'GRANDMA?'

"Yeah, that whole, 'How many fingers am I holding up?' stuff. Then he checked out my eyes to see something. He says I need to go home," I coughed out, making Vladimir nod slowly.

So the hockey/football player's grandma is a nurse?

Interesting.

"Okay, well, if you really think she has to go home, then... why not. Call your parents. Tell them to pick you up," the nurse said making me nod slowly and stand up from the stiff bed. I felt a strong arm wrap around my waist to keep me steady as I started to walk towards the phone by the nurse's desk, making my jaw clench.

He seriously needs to stop helping me. I'm not a weakling.

Though it is a little... adorable that he's a big-bad-jock helping out a nobody.

I need sleep, ASAP.

"I don't need help, I'm fine," I muttered, making him sigh in an annoyed way.

"Stop acting like that and let me help you for once," he muttered in reply, making me turn my head over to him in a shocked way.

"Stop acting like what?" I challenged, making his jaw clench as he turned to me.

"Like y–"

"Okay, you too. You literally walked right passed the phone. Enough chit-chat," the old woman said in a strange way, making both of our attention snap over to her. "Call your parents, dear," the nurse instructed, making me sigh and nod before I started to walk– and of course, with little Vlad's help– over to the phone.

I picked up the old-fashioned phone and started to dial a number, patiently waiting for the person to answer. "Who the hell is this?" they answered, making me force myself not to roll my eyes.

"Hey mom. I got dizzy today at school and passed out, so I need you to pick me up. That cool?" I asked politely, trying to sound nice to the person on the other end.

"Mom? I like daddy more. It sounds more kinky," the guy said, making me hold in a demonic growl.

'You can tear him to shreds later, Michelle,' I thought to myself as I tried to calm down.

"Okay... Hi, dad," I said, politely, looking over to the nurse with a smile- who was already smiling back.

Fuck with me right now, and I'll rip you to shreds. Just pretend you're picking me up or I'll fucking kill you, I mind-linked, making a laugh echo in my numb head.

"Of course I'll pick you up, sweetie... But only if you call me daddy for the rest of the week and say you love me," the ass on the other end offered, making my eye twitch.

"I love you too, daddy," I said sweetly into the phone, hearing a cackle on the other end.

"I'm so lame," he said to himself, still cackling like the idiot he is.

"See you later," I said right before I ended the call, not wanting to listen to his voice anymore.

"Is he coming to get you?" the nurse said, my nod in reply making a slowly sigh come out of your mouth.

"Okay, that's good. For a minute I thought I would have to go to desperate measures," the nurse said, making me tilt my head back a little.

"And what are the 'desperate measures' you speak of?" I asked, making her give me a bitter-sweet smile.

"The hospital," the nurse informed, making me hold in my breath.

Something's really wrong with me, and if one of you don't pick me up I'm being sent to the hospital... Which is VERY bad, because this problem is pretty unhuman, I mind-linked to who I thought would be the guys, but getting no reply in return.

"I'm here to pick up my daughter," a man that didn't sound like my dad said, making me turn around slowly. When I turned around I saw a man that looked nothing like my dad standing there, leaning against the door with his left shoulder.

He looked around mid-40s, with somewhat vanishing hair and dull brown eyes, wearing a casual outfit consisting of a random grey shirt and light-wash jeans.

"Well, Mr. Antoinette, it's a pleasure to finally get the chance to meet you," the nurse acknowledged, making me hold my breath in and stiffen up under Vlad's hold.

My "dad" then turned to face me– looking like he was about to tell me something–, but when he saw Vladimir's arm around around me his expression turned... angry? Jealous?

"Boy, why are you touching my daughter?" he asked possessively, making Vladimir immediately move away from me. The quick movement caught me off balance for half a second, but I managed to find my balance after a little while.

"Sorry, sir. I was just making sure she wouldn't fall, sir," he replied quickly, making me sigh and look over to the unknown man at the front.

"Cut it out, dad," I muttered as I kept my gaze low to the ground, making the man sigh.

"Okay, okay, but before we leave do I have to sign anything?" the man asked as I walked slowly towards him, watching from the corner of my eye as Vlad's hands twitched where they were from not being able to help me.

"Nope, just go ahead out," the nurse said, making the man nod before wrapping an arm around my shoulder and helping me out of the room.

When we got out of the room I felt his grip tighten, but before I could ask why everything around me went black.
