Chapter 80
Alpha's Rejected Mate Returns as Queen
80 The Powerful Witch
Selma Payneâs POV:
I looked at Aldrich in confusion, and he explained softly, âWhen the southern Duke and the pure white witch were in love, the pure white witch often made black tea cookies for the southern Duke as a gift. From then on, black tea cookies became the southern Dukeâs favorite. He would never reject them, except today.
âThis means that heâs asking for help. Heâs using extremely abnormal behavior to ask for help.
âWhatâs even worse is that even without Carolyn by his side, the southern Duke cannot speak freely. Either Carolyn can monitor his movements at all times, or heâs unwilling to take risks and tell the truth. This means that heâs under an extremely urgent threat.
âThe southern Duke is a brave warrior, and the witchâs power canât possibly be strong enough to threaten Southern Pack, so thereâs only one option left.
âHis daughter, the real Carolyn, might be hovering on the edge of death.â
I was still an amateur regarding recognizing schemes and couldnât compare to any old foxes here. If no one had explained it to me, I wouldnât have been able to notice anything.
âThe southern Duke did not surrender to the witches. He is on our side.â
Otherwise, he wouldnât have shown anything unusual today.
âYouâve improved,â my father praised me.
Although the southern Dukeâs position was clear, it was not an effective help given his current situation of being surrounded by wolves.
âWe have to think of a way to rescue Lennon. At least, he can speak as he wishes and not be constantly monitored by Carolyn.â The elders said tiredly, âBut we canât be sure if the witch has completely replaced Carolyn or just possessed her body. We canât start with her.â
Aldrich suggested, âMaybe we can ask for outside help? There are also some wizards and witches who are friendly or neutral to us.â
My father shook his head. âNo, you canât know a personâs true nature. We canât guarantee the confidentiality of our transactions with outsiders.â
âSome werewolves in the pack who are proficient in sorcery, right?â Aldrich continued, âThere are a few officers in the army that I know. I can guarantee their complete loyalty.â
My father still shook his head. âThatâs too risky. The identity of an officer isnât completely confidential. If a little magic fluctuation is revealed, Carolyn could bewitch the secret bureauâs personnel and follow the fluctuation to find him.â
Now that things had come to a standstill, where could we find a sorcerer whose identity was unknown?
Wait a minute.
Was there... Such a person around me?
Dorothy!
How could I have forgotten about her?
However, Dorothyâs identity was a complete secret, so I could only suggest this candidate to my father after sending Duke Frank and Aldrich away.
âDorothy?â My father was very surprised. It was obvious that he had not thought of her. âNo, Selma. Sheâs still a child. This is very dangerous. We canât put the innocent in danger.â
âBut we donât have any other choice, right?â I retorted, âOther than Dorothy, who else meets the requirements?
âBesides, how do you know sheâs not willing to get involved? In my opinion, Dorothy is a very enthusiastic and adventurous person. Itâs just that the people around her either overprotected her or suppressed her too much, so she couldnât find an opportunity to realize her value.
âIf she knew she could help but was rejected again, she would be sad!â
Perhaps it was because I was protecting my friend like a chirping angry chick; my father couldnât help but laugh. He shook his head. âEven if Dorothy is willing, does she have the ability? The one controlling Carolyn is a very powerful witch. Dorothy has only awakened her bloodline recently. Does she have the power to fight back?â
âDonât underestimate her!â I said. âDorothy is not an ordinary witch. She can prophesy and is naturally gifted in sorcery. Moreover, sheâs an outstanding learner. She might not be able to help the southern Duke with the spell, but sheâll be able to learn it quickly if someone teaches her!â
With my sincere recommendation, my father quickly surrendered and helplessly said, âAlright, little princess. Letâs first ask Dorothyâs opinion. You have to be neutral and not force her, okay?â
âWhat kind of person do you think I am?â I mumbled unhappily, âDorothy is my friend. If she doesnât want to, I will hide her even if you personally order her to do it!â
âSo, Iâm the bad guy now?â My father patted my head lovingly. âGo! Go and find your friend. Dorothy is a good child, I know.â
