Chapter 8

The Fae's Chance

Michael's POV ◇

"What if we share him" I cringed at the sound of my own voice. But, I was desperate. Living without a mate for too long can and will kill a Faerie. I need him.

"Love, go up to your room for a bit till I get you." Axel told my Tommy. I guess he wouldn't be mine anymore if we share him. He'd be ours. I hate the thought.

"So, you're willing to share now?" He was skeptical of me. He had plenty of reason to be, but I didn't care as long as I got my mate.

"I don't like it, but I will if it means I get to keep him." It was the honest truth. If he left I would die. This needs to work.

"I don't like you" Axel plainly states with no emotion.

"Your not my mate, you don't have to." I snapped a bit at him. It wasn't the smart thing to say in this situation but my  Eue got the better of me.

"Nothing's stopping me from taking Thomas away from here. I could leave right now if I wanted." The bitterness in his voice made me flinch. Damn my emotions I don't know if I'm getting mad or scared. I didn't want him to take away my kitten.

"Do you really want to be responsible for killing off another Fae?" That's a low blow. Though every Faerie knows how it works if you reject all three of your mates, or they reject you. Rejection is not an option.

"I don't know what happened to the other two, but my Eue won't let me leave him. I'll give you two options. Either reject him and die, or treat him the way our mate deserves to be treated." No negotiation was in his voice. I knew my kitten and I started off on the wrong foot, but I was trying to avoid this.

I can't control my Eue around him.

When my little Tommy realized he wasn't going to be leaving anytime soon he locked himself up in his room. He wouldn't even talk to Axel, the one he obviously favored over me. He still wasn't eating, and he stopped talking to us entirely. This lasted for three days.

Over the three days of starving himself it went too far. We found Tommy passed out on the floor on one of our checkups. That's when we decided to force feed him. Axel held him down while I shoved a spoonful of chicken soup in his mouth and made him swallow by holding his nose and mouth shut.

Now it's the fourth day of this shit and my Eue and I are getting impatient. From what I can tell Axel is too.

Looking at the digital clock on the wall, I see it's noon. Noon is when either Axel or I go up and check on him, and try to convince him to eat. If he doesn't come down to eat by five we feed him by force. That way he eats at least once a day, we would feed him more but we also want him to decide to eat on his own. Eventually his hunger would win, right?

An idea popped into my head.

Rushing down out the door in the kitchen to the garden ,we faeries are very connected to plants, I decided to pick him some flowers. The start of the bouquet is a mix between green orchids and white Calla Lilies.

Then I did a little prance run slowly back to the kitchen. I need to hurry so I can get to my kitten before Axel. I grab a pair of scissors and a bondi blue ribbon to tie around the flowers. Lastly I poured water into the fanciest clear glass vase we own and put the flowers in it.

I'm very proud of my work.

As a last thought I grabbed a chocolate bar from out of the pantry and headed off for the room. I hope he likes it. I rushed a bit so I could get there first, hopefully it doesn't show.

Once I made it to the door, I knocked on it in a  song like rhythm. I didn't hear anything in the room. There was no movement, for a solid minute until a knocked again and got grumbled curses  aimed at the world. This made me chuckle. I must have woken him up.

Someone's not a "morning" person.

My kitten opened the door with the most unamused face I've seen in a long time.

"These daily checkups are g-getting on my nerves, c-c-can't I just go home yet?" He asked rudely. The glare he is giving me is probably meant to be threatening. However sleep took away his ability to look mean. He now reminds me of a grouchy cat. At least he's talking now.

"Sorry mate, your stuck with us." I gave a cheeky reply, trying to be playful. The chocolate and flowers hidden behind my back.

"G-great. Now I have to deal with this asshole and the j-jacket douche forever" He muttered under his breath. He probably thought I couldn't hear him, but my Eue makes me more animal like, heightened senses and all. Though I still can't turn into an animal, which sucks.

"Well that's not very nice." His eyes widened when he realized I had heard him. "Also I brought you something."

"Unless it's a one way t-ticket home, I don't want it." He snapped. He was getting annoyed.

His arms crossed over his chest and he started leaning against the doorway to block my view of the room. That intrigued me. What is my Tommy hiding.

"Welp, we are fresh out of that. However I did bring you something to brighten up that dark room of yours." He didn't look impressed. If anything, he got a bit fidgety, his arms uncrossed and he started playing with his fingers. "I also brought chocolate."

Chocolate caught his attention. Just like I thought it would. He hasn't had anything sweet since I brought him here. It still pisses me off that I ended up bringing him in vain. It was supposed to get rid of competition, not create more of it.

"Great, just give th-them to me and g-get out." He said holding his hands out for the gifts. I might've done what he asked if he didn't look like he was hiding something.

Nudging him aside I walked right in. The room is indeed very dark in aesthetic. Everything was either black, dark grey, or a deep brown. It didn't help that it was lit up by only a small lamp in the corner. Sunlight could get in through the blackout curtain which gave the room an eerie glow.

When he becomes more accepting of us, we're going to have to redecorate this room. Or move him to one of our rooms. It's much too dark for my Tommy in here.

I walked across the dark carpet and opened the curtains. When they were drawn I saw that the window pane was missing. We were about a story or two up, which is probably why my kitten isn't missing.

Fear was in his eyes when I turned to look at him. I was angry, but not as much as I was after the bathroom fiasco. He may have been trying to escape but he never made it. He wasn't as far as the other escape either, so that fact pleased me a bit.

He probably has a makeshift rope around here somewhere that he was planning to use. When I tell Axel it might be fun to bet on how creative our mate can be, even if it was for an escape. When he accepts us, it would be a useful skill to know in case we were to be attacked.

"You're hair actually looks decent today." His voice squeaked on the last word.

Sorry kitten, compliments won't get you anywhere today.

"Kitten, care to explain why your window is missing?" I growled. I'm already planning his punishment if he lies.

"It broke" he shrugged. Trying to look innocent.

"I'm going to pretend that you didn't just lie to me." I paused and started walking towards the door. It made him look even more frightened. "In return for ignoring this you will spend the rest of the day in my room, eat your dinner and lunch."

Axel won't be pleased to hear about the escape either. For his punishment I will have to go easy on him, because from what I know about Axel, he won't. It's in a Faerie's instincts to be dominant, and that will be a very bad thing for my Tommy if he keeps up this charade.

"Are you coming or not?"

He slowly followed me out the light grey door. His head down clearly trying not to attract attention to himself.

We walked past a few other people who live in the coven with us. They watched my Tommy carefully, we haven't had a human here since Lenaya died taking Teagan with her. Mates die together.

I led my mate to the kitchen. When we got there Axel was gawking at the fact my kitten was out of his room. For now he doesn't have to know the reason. I'll just let him think I'm Tommy's favorite.

Tommy sat on a stool next to the bar. At the same time Axel grabbed my arm and pulled me too him.

"How did you talk him out of leaving his room?" He whispered in my ear. I hope he doesn't actually think I'm going to tell him. Even it there was a way to get him out of that room without force, I wouldn't even give him a hint. That's not how this game is played.

"It's a secret."
