Chapter 6

The Fae's Chance

Michael's POV ◇

To say I was pissed was a bit of an understatement. If one more thing goes wrong today, I might stab my eyes out. At least then I wouldn't have to see all this bullshit going on around me.

All I wanted to do today was take my gorgeous raven haired beauty home. Maybe introduce him to the family before I mate and mark him. Perhaps I'll throw in showing him my true form. Did it work out that way?

No!

My mate ,whose name I just found out was Thomas, decided to run. He is so lucky I got to him before he could actually get out of the bathroom. If anyone would have even seen him I would have splattered their small intestine all over the forest floor. Red can be such a pretty color when fueled by rage.

The most ridiculous part of this whole thing was how he ran.

~flashback ~

The car pulled over at a rest stop as my mate had requested. At first I was going to tell him "no", but after seeing his pleading eyes filled with need I decided to be generous.

"When we get out of this car you will not let go of my hand." It came out kind of possessive. Or perhaps a better wording would be strict or dominating. He'll have to deal with it though, it's just the way I am.

We got out of the car and walked to the building. It was made of what appeared to be a mixture of rock and logs. Obviously it was newly built. Inside it didn't look half bad either, though nowhere near good enough for my mate. Gotta hand it to Montana though, they got some of the nicest rest stops I've ever been in.

It had maps and a small information center type thing. However for some unknown inconvenient fucking reason, the bathrooms were singles. It was probably do to the remoteness of the place.

"I'll just go inside, and you can wait out here" Thomas told me. Then walked in without hearing my answer.

I nodded anyway to make myself feel more in control and stood against the wall in an uncaring manner. It wasn't the most comfortable way but if it could intimidate what few people who were here, it was fine by me.

After three minutes of him being in the bathroom ,I counted, I started to hear shuffling. Then came the banging.

"Are you okay?" I asked knocking on the door.

Mumbles fell through the cracks in the door. Most of them slew of curse words. Water then followed. Not wasting a second I opened the door ,with a spell, and saw my mate.

He had one foot in the toilet, the other in the sink (which was on and overflowing) and his head stuck in an open slit of the window.

~End of flashback~

My anger left as the experience's ending came into mind. Such a beautiful way to be discovered. The more I thought of it the happier I got.

My kitten seemed to realize what I was thinking when I started laughing. His glare hardened. It was like his eyes upgraded from stone to steel. His eyes might just be the only scary thing about him.  Perhaps I should start calling him tiger?

"If your going to be so carefree at my expense, can you at least tell me why am I here?" He demanded. It appears my kitten is getting mad.

Thinking about it now would be the perfect time to tell him why he's here. He was trapped in the car with me for at least another 3 hours with no escape. If he tried to motion for help out the windows I could restrain him. Not to mention that he would have to face me and talk to me.

"As you probably already guessed I'm a Fae" I said this slowly to ease him into it. I find that when starting these types of conversations it's best to go crawl, walk, run.

I started to scan my mates face for any type of reaction. It was clear that he was scared shitless in under 30 seconds flat of processing the ,not so new, information. You could see it in his eyes.

"And, the reason that you are here is you are my mate." I'm just going to let that sink in for a bit. "Any questions?"

"Yes" He then proceeded to gesture to all of me.

"As you should know, being a Fae means I can change my appearance to whatever I wish. However I do have limitations such as not being able to appear smaller than I really am unless I've changed. Only a Fae's accepted mate will ever see their true form, even then it's a rare sight. We won't show ourselves often.

The magic we possess comes at a price. It's not unlimited. It either takes a sacrifice, a potion (which has not magic on it's own, it's just a special sacrifice), or most often energy. If you use up too much energy you will die.

Lastly, we have mates. We get three possible mates in our lifetime. Most people go for their first mate cause it's like an instant pull, they are very hard to reject. Sometimes we even accept all of out mates. If you are not a Fae and are a possible mate to a Faerie then you also have three chances for a mate ,all of them Faeries. If one mate is mated we don't get another one. So that Fae will have formed a connection with an already mated or married person and have to live with it forever. They will have to live with knowing their mate will never love them back, and will be in another's arms every night."

After giving him a Faerie 101 class I waited to see what it cleared up. I don't want him to know too much yet. I'll let him ask questions so I don't add to my slip up. If he doesn't know what to ask, he won't ask it.

If he figures out he can reject me and goes home I'll have no chance of getting him back. Once a Fae is rejected they can get their mate back, but it would work like human dating, and that's too slow. He has another possible mate waiting for him back home. He's my last chance, I can't let him be taken away too.

"What d-did you mean by 'unless we ch-changed'?'' he asked. He scooted closer to me in the car and had a curious expression on his face. I hadn't noticed how much his mood changed when I started giving him answers. It seems his curiosity got the best of him.

"We can shapeshift into creatures such as mermaids, elves, Fairies (like in the books), leprechauns, sirens, etc." I said this with a smile. It was my favorite part about being a Fae.

My kittens face lit up even more. Getting to learn new things about a forbidden "creature" is making him happier than I thought it would. Perhaps he was feeling the mate bond too. Curiosity is one thing, but being excited about it is another.

"Please tell me v-vampires and werewolves are included on this list." Thomas begged. He hit my arm like a drum. Why? I don't know.

"Sad to say this, but no. We don't have those forms." I smiled a bit. I have been smiling a lot today. I hope he stays.

He frowned but nodded. He looked to be deep in thought.

"What's a m-mate? You explained that you had them, b-but not what they are."

"A mate is someone you spend your life with. It's a deeper connection than a married couple. They are the other parts to you soul." His face scrunched up in confusion. That was clearly not the answer he expected or wanted to hear.

"You said the F-Fae have three. Go pick one of the other two." He said this rather harshly, and it broke my heart.

My lips curled into a frown. He doesn't want me. I knew I shouldn't have taken him but I couldn't let the other Fae have him. I was going to wait, and court him. Then I was even going to ask his parents for permission to have him. Axel screwed me over. While it's not particularly uncommon for Faeries to share mates and all live together, I just couldn't. I was too selfish to share my mate. He was mine.

"I can't. You're my last chance." I whispered.

N/A:

We finally got to learn about the Fae. Not only that but we also got a sneak peak at a possible future love triangle.

What will happen?

******

As promised there will be another update soon. Probably Sunday to make up for there not being one last week.

Also I might take down the character listing, because I don't really like how I did it, but I will start putting pictures of them up at the top. It will start next week.

Hope y'all are having a fabulous day, and thank you so much for reading :)
