Chapter 38

Mai

Life is better with you!

The night comes and goes in silence. No one was crushed and no one died last night, but when we all woke up we are literal zombies crawling out of our graves. Ashley had taken up the whole bed and Samantha stole all of the blankets as usual. I ended up on the mattress again and no one has gotten out of bed yet.

When Samantha's phone alarm went off religiously it started to get on my nerves. It's the freaking weekend!! Who the hell sets up an alarm for the weekend and why this early?! What the actual fu-

"Sam, turn off the damn alarm." Ashley groans.

Samantha groans back and rolls over to face the opposite direction of her phone nearly rolling on top of me. "You turn it off."

"Bitch, turn off the alarm!"

Samantha groans again.

Ashley huffs and flicks the crazy red hair out of her face. She reaches over her best friend and turns off the alarm. Her large body hanging over me as she does so. I plead with anything that is out there watching over this world for Ashley not to lay on top of me.

My pleas don't fall on deaf ears this time, kind of. Ashley lays down on Samantha and the two snuggle with each other. Sort of.

"Hey!" I whine. I climb back on the white pillow and stare the two girls down. "What about me?"

"No girlfriends allowed." Ashley groans.

"Ashley," I'm surprised Samantha can pull off a motherly tone at this time of day. "Share."

The redhead huffs and snatches me off the pillow. She sets me down on Samantha's forehead and leaves me there.

"Really," I grumble.

"I'm sharing." She replies.

I throw my hands out in front of me, furiously gesturing to the predicament Ashley has left me in. "Are you serious right now."

Samantha's eyes pop open and she forces Ashley off of her. "And we're awake."

The brunette sits up which forces me to grab onto a couple of strands of hair to keep myself from falling. But I make things worse for myself in the process.

I'm back straddling Samantha's nose giving her an amazing view of my boxers as I dangle off her face basically. What makes things worse is Ashley making the dumbest comments ever.

"Nice underwear."

I feel the blood rush to the girls face as she continues to stare at me. My face heats up as well.

"H-hi." Samantha sputters.

"Hello." I squeak.

Ashley tries to hide her amused snorts with a hand and fails. "How gay can you two get?"

The redhead's comment breaks the embarrassing tension. Samantha plucks me off her face and gets out of bed. "Come on, Ashley. We should get ready or we'll be late to Bruce's house." The teen drops me off at my house, ignoring the embarrassing awakening. "Plus he's been telling me how excited Mai is to meet Caesar and I don't want to keep her waiting."

Mai. One half of me prays that it's her, one because Bruce is a nice young man and Mai would be perfect for her, friendship wise. The other half of me hopes it's not her. The horrid thoughts that have run rampant through my mind about the state she's in have put me on edge. I don't want to see my best friend all bruised and broken physically and mentally. I've gotten lucky these past couple years, unlike some other tinies I know.

I quietly get ready for the day, wearing the norm. Jeans, jacket, and tennis shoes. Nothing going to change the way I dress.

We head downstairs to eat breakfast with little to no conversation at all. No one seems to mind the silence while eating which is what I want to hear. It's something I take for granted when Ashley opens her mouth.

"Do you think people eat tinies?" She throws the question out for reason and it causes Samantha to choke on her food.

"Why would you ask that?"

Ashley turns to her friend. "You told me how Alexia almost ate Caesar. It just came across my mind right now."

Samantha shakes her head and gets up to put her dishes in the sink, ignoring her friend's stupid question.

I'm plucked off the table and set on her shoulder. Samantha is wearing a low v-neck shirt that gives everyone a good look of her cleavage. I don't know if I should be thankful or upset. No perverted freak should have their eyes on my girl.

Samantha and Ashley hop in the car, the garage opens, and Samantha pulls out carefully. I now sit on Ashley's lap, again, for safety reasons.

The ride is longer than usual, but we make it to Bruce's house safely which is all that matters. It's a small house in a large neighborhood, but it does have that cozy feel to it.

"It's not a mansion but it's home." The young man calls from the front door.

Ashley rushes up to her boyfriend and throws herself at him, arms wrapped around his neck and showering one side of his face with kisses.

"I've never seen Ashley be so touchy," I say.

Samantha smirks. "It's because she's not touchy around you."

I show my disgust to the extreme by pretending to choke myself and gagging. "I'm glad she's not all touchy with me."

The teen's nose scrunches up. "I think you're taking all of this the wrong way."

Bruce waves us over and invites us inside. A cool breeze flows through the house as we walk behind Bruce, our guide. He tells us about his small family. His dad owns a couple of pet stores and his brother works at one of them. Something clicked in my head when he mentioned his brother.

Now a new question is burning in my skull. I have to remember to ask later, for now, let's focus on one thing at a time.

We stop at a door at the end of the hall. "Mai gets a little nervous around giants she doesn't know," Bruce explains as he opens the door. "and take things slow, she's missing an eye."

Gods, please don't be her.

Bruce's room is small with a bed pushed up against the opposite side of the door and a small corner desk in the corner. Duh. You can't fit anything else in the room or else it will be too cramped.

"Mai, Ashley's back," Bruce announces softly before telling us that the girl simply adores the redhead.

We all step into the room, Bruce leading us to the desk. He takes a seat, Ashley flanks the right and Samantha flanks the left.

It doesn't take me long to find the girl on the desk, especially since Bruce has his large hands gently cupped around her.

What I see makes me want to cry. It's her, it's Mai, and she doesn't look good. She's missing more than an eye, she bound to a wheelchair with her right lower leg missing and she's thinner than normal.

"Mai... Oh, my gods..." I shutter, unable to believe what I'm seeing.

Samantha turns to me, but I pay no attention to the girl's staring.

"Someone else is here to see you," Bruce says gently.

Mai says nothing.

Ashley leans over and whispers to us. "She's been depressed lately, so Bruce is hoping Caesar can cheer her up."

Samantha pinches her brows together. "But I thought Bruce said-"

"Samantha, can I take Caesar off your hands real quick?" Bruce asks, looking up at her.

Samantha obliges and gingerly pinches the back of my hoodie and drops me in Bruce's hands. He then puts me down on the desk a few feet away from my wheelchair-bound best friend.

Her black hair is longer than the last time I saw her and she's paler than last time too. She's wearing a baggy shirt that covers her thighs. The metal cap at the end of her thigh makes me feel horrible.

I can already feel the lump forming in my throat. We say nothing to each other.

Gods, why her? Out of all the people on this earth, why her? Why her, damn it!?"

I finally bring myself to speak her name. "Mai?"

The girl flinches. Something must have sparked inside her because she looks up me. I see a large pink scar over her milky white right eye, but she still looks the same.

Her face morphs into several different forms of shock. "C-Caesar? Is that..."

Tears well up in my eyes and I nod. "Yeah," My voice breaks.

Mai begins to cry.

"Oh, shit. Hold up." I rush over to her and pull her into a deep hug, ignoring my own tears that are falling from my face.

She buries her head in the crook of my neck, sobbing loudly while her fingers clutch my hoodie tightly as I'll disappear at any given moment.

"It's you! It's really you! He told me it was you but I didn't believe him!" Mai's sobs are ugly and violent

I cling to her, my tears becoming rivers pour down my face. "To be honest, when I heard the name I wished it wasn't you. Some part prayed that you'd escape." My voice cracks while several tears find their way into my mouth. Disgusting, I know. "It's good to see you alive."

Mai responds softly. "It's good to see you too!"

A part of my past has come to me and for once it's something good. Someone, I thought I'd lost forever I somehow, in some form of a miracle, have found in this large world.

Now, instead of my world falling apart, it's coming together. In more ways than one too.
