Chapter 45: We've Got Tonight

Topping the Enemy (Werewolf Story)

Harry

I am in heaven.

Since we returned from the cottage on Sunday, Landon and I have been in a blissful state. We make love every night and wake up reinvigorated to do it all over again the next day.

I understand we are in the honeymoon phase of our relationship, whatever. I'll take the happiness. I'll take the sexy times. I'll take the love he has shown for me.

Honestly, my heart has been so full lately. I spent my entire week between visiting Spencer who was sequestered because of his heat and planning what to do with my mate once we lay in our bed together.

It has been so great that I can't believe I was ever nervous to bottom for him. Now it's a struggle to decide who bottoms for the other. Though to be fair, both of us still love topping, so it'll never be an issue for us.

Now it's Friday and Aaron is here on a surprise visit. Except that the meeting was on the calendar, but it was supposed to be with my dad. Anyway, I don't really care about politics, I only care that our two packs can maintain the peace.

Whatever it takes, count me in.

Actually, I kinda missed him. Who would've thought?

He is my brother after all, so... why wouldn't I?

"You're here!" He opened the biggest smile I've seen on him so far at seeing Rhiannon standing in front of the living room - which is on the way to the entrance of the pack house.

"I needed to see you before you left." She spoke in a shy tone as we witnessed the odd couple ogling each other intensely.

"Harry, can I see you in our bedroom for a minute?" Landon asked me, directing me towards the Alpha wing, though not before saying goodbye to my brother.

"It was nice seeing you again, Mr. Staedler. Have a safe trip back home." He shook his hand, then we left the other mated couple. The rest of the people present also made themselves scarce, leaving just Aaron and Rhiannon alone in front of the living room.

When Landon and I entered our room, he immediately darted for a kiss.

He lunged at my lips so hungrily you'd think he just spent a week without kissing me. I welcomed his love with open arms. I am not the one flaking on my job.

"What did you want to talk to me about? Did you need to check my anatomy?" I snickered once we parted lips.

"It's not my fault if you're looking that hot! I'd check your anatomy now, but if I don't get back to my office, Lourdes is gonna come looking for me." He said in a joking tone, though I am sure that's true.

"Don't worry. The night is ours!" I exclaimed, sounding excited at the prospect.

Landon and I checked ourselves in front of the mirror and then left our room. He went straight to his office and I walked towards the guest wing, though not without noticing that the living room door was closed when I passed it by.

I knocked at Spence's room and he let me in. We sat by each other on the bed and I missed the close proximity with him.

"So, where is the date tonight? Are you two planning something special?" I inquired, curiously.

"I don't know. There aren't that many options available in Regency Falls. I think we're just going to the bar again." He said, nonchalantly.

"Really? Why don't you take him to the movies, this way you can take advantage of the dark..." I said with a naughty grin.

"Because I am not 14 anymore, Harry. If I want to take advantage of my mate, I don't need an excuse." He said in a snarky tone.

"Excuse me, Mr. Evolved. Go to the bar, then. Go drink with the straights!" I mumbled, annoyed at him.

"There are straight people in the movies too, you know?" He countered, laughing at me.

"Whatever. When are you going to complete the bond with your hot mate? That's the main question." I asked him point blank. There is no point in dancing around the issue.

"Hopefully soon." He replied in a dry tone.

"What kind of answer is that? Are you alright? You seem a little off today!" I complained. This is not the Spencer I am used to, so vivacious and exuberant.

"Okay, remember when you asked me about how my visit to Ares was yesterday?" He started off, indicating some juicy detail he skipped last night.

"Yes, I do. I am guessing there's more to the story." I said, raising a suspicious eyebrow at him.

Spencer told me in detail the trouble he went through trying to enter the training center and everything that happened yesterday. I was shocked that someone would try to block his way inside the place like it's Fort Knox or something.

Once he was done telling me about it, I was worried for him.

"Are you freaked out because Ares had to use violence in front of you? Are you scared of him?" I questioned him, quizzically.

"What? NO!" He shouted at me as if offended by the implication.

"No, I am not freaked out. On the contrary, I want him and I want him NOW!" He confessed, flustered.

Suddenly, I understood what this was about. He was trying to play coy.

"Oh I see..." - I said with a naughty grin. - "And who's stopping you?"

"Don't you think it's too early?" He asked me, sounding and looking genuinely troubled.

"Who was the one who told me I shouldn't concern myself with other people's opinions? Who told me I should do what's best for me?" I reminded him with a poignant look.

"Right." - He frowned at the realization. - "I guess I am a little in my head about it. I am scared people would think I am a hoe for completing the bond this fast after Kevin died." He admitted, vulnerably.

"Everyone else's opinion doesn't count in your life and your mating. You are your own man! You earned every bit of happiness the Goddess allowed you to have. You deserve to be happy and to do whatever you want with your hot blonde mate. That's completely your prerogative and no one has the right to judge you. Not that I feel like anyone would." I told him, incisively.

Spencer pondered on my words for a minute. I am glad to be having this conversation with him. He deserves to have everything he wants. If he wants to complete the bond now, then he should.

We'll be back to college in two weeks. I should have waited less if I wasn't so in my head over a silly issue. And now it's all I think about.

"I guess you're right, Harry. It's nobody's business if I complete the bond or not. Do you think he wants to complete it with me?" He asked me and I could feel the vulnerability in his tone.

I know Spencer deals with body confidence and self-esteem issues because of his weight. Though if you ask me, he is plain gorgeous no matter what the scale says.

"Well, since you're asking my true, honest opinion..." I started, purposely being suspenseful. Spencer widened his eyes in anticipation.

"He would've completed the bond with you on the night of my birthday if you had consented to it." I said with a naughty grin. Spencer snorted at this.

Both of us laughed for a few minutes like silly boys.

"I mean, you should have seen him handling his business with such confidence, like a man... I was wet just witnessing the whole thing!" Spencer confessed, flustered.

"Way to go, Ares! You should stand up for your mate!" I celebrated, impressed by him.

"You know I hate violence, but that guy was really obnoxious!" He said, irritated.

"Of course! Blocking your path like you were a human and he had to protect our secret? What the hell!" I agreed, also peeved at the situation.

I am not particularly a fan of violence and I fully advocate that it should only be used as a last resort. But that is not how you treat another werewolf. Even one from another pack - though the warrior in question didn't know that at the time, which only makes it worse. At least if he knew, he'd have some room to argue.

Spencer spent a few minutes daydreaming about completing the bond with his mate. Ironically, he was exuding such strong pheromones that if I didn't know any better, I'd say he was breaking out in heat. Again.

He even managed to put me in the mood with all this talking. And I was already in it, to begin with.

That night, as soon as Landon and I were alone in our room - there is a brief window of time between him leaving his office and dinner being served in the dining room - I attacked him.

I nearly ripped the clothes off his body with hunger for my mate as if we were a pair of virgins.

"It's Friday evening, we don't need to hurry this. We have the whole night ahead of us after dinner." Landon cautioned me as I stripped him naked.

"Yes, I am aware. But I want you NOW!" I practically shouted.

For the next half hour or so, I did whatever I wanted with his body and he did not complain. Except to tell me we were late for dinner.

We scrambled together to have a quick shower and got downstairs when Felicia, Spencer, Clark, Ella, and the maid were impatiently waiting for us to arrive.

"Sorry for being late." Landon apologized as we entered the dining room. Both of us took our seats blushing as Spencer gave me a naughty grin. Of course, he knows what we were doing, everyone but Ella does.

"I understand you're a newly mated couple, but it's disrespectful to make the staff wait an extra fifteen minutes past the time to serve dinner. They have other things to do, they can't wait around all night for you, Alpha." Felicia reprimanded him, glaring at her son.

"I know. I am sorry for the delay. It won't happen again, I promise." Landon apologized, feeling embarrassed.

"It better not. Did you know Mrs. Glabeurman has to rush home after she's done here to take care of her pup? She has her own family to attend to." She continued, mad at him.

"I am sorry, Mrs. Glauberman. It won't happen again." Landon apologized to the maid, who quickly said it was not a big deal.

After the tell-off from his mother, the maid served us dinner and everybody was uncomfortably quiet.

"I am sorry, ma'am. It was my fault. I thought I had better time management." I apologized to her, taking some of the blame. In fact, it really was my fault.

"First lesson in being a leader: everything that happens in this pack is Landon's fault. Whether or not he intended or simply neglected, it falls on the Alpha to answer for it." She stated in a firm tone and I gulped nervously. Landon too.

"First lesson in being a Luna: you are supposed to improve your partner. Do you think my mate remembered all his appointments? Hell no! Men are useless. But the Alpha couple serves as a role model for the entire pack, so it falls on you to remind him of that and keep your appointments because no one will respect a leader who doesn't set an example." She lectured in a fierce tone.

Landon and I were looking at each other like... damn! I am beyond embarrassed right now. I should have known better. I was raised by a fierce Luna myself.

"Thank you, ma'am. I appreciate the advice and the lessons. I'll never forget them." I said, blushing uncomfortably.

"I don't mean to embarrass you, Harry. But my son and you are under scrutiny. If anything happens from now on, he can't say he is merely a Regent. Though his ascension ceremony can't take place for a while, he is the Alpha of our pack now." She said with a soft tone.

I could tell what she meant by that and how worried she was for him, for us. She is a mother first. Without her mate here, everything falls on Landon as not only the 'man of the house', but the leader of the pack.

The playtime is over. We are officially adults now - though my mate already was since his dad's untimely death. Except now it's official.

"I completely understand, Luna." I said after a moment, serenely.

"I am not the Luna anymore. You are." She refuted me with a smile.

After dinner, we entered our room in a completely different mood than we left earlier. Felicia's words weighed heavily on me, on both of us.

"I am so sorry for making us late for dinner. Trust me, I learned my lesson. It'll never happen again." I told my mate as we began to change clothes.

"It's not your fault, Harry. You don't need to beat yourself up about it. I am the Alpha." Landon tried to make me feel less guilty.

"Yes, Alpha. You are. And you're so hot." I said, looking at him in underwear with impure thoughts.

"We just ate dinner!" He gasped in shock at my naughty disposition.

"I know, mate. I am just looking at you. Is that a crime? So arrest me, Alpha!" I surrendered myself, offering my fists to be handcuffed.

"Sorry, Harry. But I am gonna turn on the TV before you give me indigestion." He snickered, going to the bathroom to brush his teeth.

When he returned, he did as announced and turned on the TV to keep him distracted (from me).

"It's okay, mate. I can wait for you to watch your TV show. The night is young and it belongs to us." I said with a mischievous grin, causing him to laugh nervously.

You wanted me, now you have me. Take it in, Alpha. Because I am just getting started - and I don't plan on sleeping any time soon.😏

A|N: Ouch. Even I felt that mom's glare.

Ironically, I wrote this chapter with another song in mind but when I went to look it up, it didn't have 'night' in it - which was the whole point.😂😅

Stuff only a writer as crazy as me goes through - to title all his chapters with songs. I ended up finding this song totally by accident.

Listening to the song, it's kind of funny how it casually relates to the conversation between Spencer and Harry about him completing the bond with Ares and fear of judgement. The night is theirs and who cares what anyone else thinks.

Next comes another #Spares update. It is aptly titled "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough". I wonder why...😏

OFF: though it's safe to say all writers put some of themselves into their work, I've never written a character with a body type close to my own like this. And I love his arc so far. Not all werewolves need to be skinny [to be evolved].

Love,

Léo.
