Chapter 96
The Cherished Wife by Chweety
Wife 96 Chapter 96 Noelle was not exactly thrilled by Charlesâs compliment. She gave a halfâhearted smile and said, âSo, is this the end of the road for Frotconn?â
Charles took a moment, then looked at Noelle with a tilt of his head, a playful challenge in his gaze. âWhy? Got a soft spot for it?â
Noelle pressed her lips together, a little frustrated. âYou know thatâs not what Iâm saying.â She tried to keep her feelings out of it but could not help asking, âDoes it have to go down like this?â
âStay out of the business stuff. There are things I cannot share with you,â Charles replied firmly. âYouâll be in the loop when you need to be.â
âFine,â Noelle conceded, letting the subject drop.
Noelle could tell there was more to the story than Charles was letting on. It was not just one thing that had him so determined.
She smiled halfâheartedly. âIf Frotconn goes under, whatâll happen to me?â
âYouâre smart. Youâll land on your feet,â he said, tapping his knee as if to emphasize his point. âTake a left here.â
Snapping out of her thoughts, Noelle gave an embarrassed smile, âSorry, I shouldnât pry into your companyâs business.â
âNo,â Charles said, giving her a look that hinted at layers of meaning, âIf youâre curious, Iâm open.â
Their eyes locked, and Noelle felt her heartbeat pick up. She cleared her throat, âIâd rather not. Iâm not part of your company, after all.â She quickly changed the subject, and luckily, Charles did not press further.
Noelle was supposed to be the cook, but there was something oddly touching about seeing him bustling around the kitchen.
Leaning against the doorframe, she hesitated before he caught her gaze, quirking an eyebrow, âSomething on your mind?â
âNeed a hand?â she asked, nodding towards the veggies in the sink. âI can cook, you know.â
âAlright, youâre on veggie duty!â Charles said with a playful command. âYouâll have plenty of time to cook later. What is the hurry?â
He gave her a teasing look that made her freeze for a second before she replied with a determined, âOkay!â
The doorbell echoed through the house, and Noelle shot Charles a wary glance. âWho else could be dropping by at this hour?â
Charlesâs eyes narrowed into slits, a sly grin spreading across his face. âGo check it out!â
Nodding, Noelle dried her hands and headed for the door, figuring it was probably one of Charlesâs buddies. The moment the door swung open, however, she was met with a towering presence that made her shriek and stumble backward, her heart racing as she stared at the unexpected duoâa man and his dog.
âWhatâs going on?â Charles rushed to the scene, alerted by the commotion.
Shaking, Noelle pointed at the doorstep invaders. âI... I got scared,â she stammered, recalling how the dog nearly lunged at her, only to be restrained by Sean in the nick of time.

It was not a casual âhow did you get here?â but a pointed âwhat are you doing here?â. Sean was clearly not on the guest list.
Sean just smirked, giving the dog a reassuring pat. âThought Iâd swing by for a housewarming, you know? Donât worry, my dogâs just super intuitiveâit only wanted to get friendly because it took a shine to you!â
