Chapter 46 Letâs Be Friends
Gwyneth took a step forward, placing her purse on the couch before settling herself comfortably across from Liam. She exuded a natural poise that required no conscious effort to enhance. Her graceful and composed demeanor immediately captured Liamâs attention.
As Liam glanced at the person before him, a light chuckle escaped his lips. âHoney, If I had some insiders at Glen Corporation, you wouldnât be sitting here so composedly, would you?â
Gwyneth smirked at the term âHoneyâ but didnât retort. Instead, she took out her phone and spread the documents she had just received
in front of Liam.
Liam said. âAre you trying to say thank you? A dinner would do.â Throughout the conversation, his gaze never wavered from Gwynethâs face. Little did he expect that she would simply ignore his words.
âWhat else did you find?â Gwyneth asked, her voice carrying a hint of resignation.
Gwyneth knew that Gaspard had clearly meddled in some internal affairs of Glen Corporation. However, there were certain things she couldnât uncover, or rather, couldnât uncover at the most opportune time. Initially, she hadnât considered involving Liam in this matter. But now, she felt that getting him involved might actually be a good idea.
As Liam observed the hint of sorrow in Gwynethâs expression, a pang of empathy surged within him. Being a CEO himself, he could imagine the turmoil that must have unfolded at the recent shareholder meeting of Glen Corporation. After all, having a young woman suddenly assume the position of CEO in that company would undoubtedly breed discontent among the shareholders.
Liam sighed inwardly and then handed over all the documents he had just investigated to Gwyneth. When he spoke again, his demeanor turned serious, reverting to the familiar CEO of Luther Corporation that everyone knew. âGwyneth, you should be aware that the current state of Glen Corporation is not as glamorous as it appears to the outside world.â
Upon hearing his words, Gwyneth looked up at Liam. At that moment, the distance between them was close. She could even catch a whiff of the cologne emanating from Liamâs body. The scent of the cologne wasnât overpowering; it was subtle, mixed with Liamâs own natural
scent, and quite pleasant.
âI understand that Glen Corporation is currently facing significant problems, but from the shareholders to the leaders below, everyone has their own interests at stake,â Liam said. âSo, each faction fights for their own gains, and anyone who poses a threat becomes a target.â As he spoke, Liamâs voice turned suddenly cold, as if he had experienced similar situations before.
He continued, âIf things continue like this, it wonât be long before Glen Corporation crumbles.â
Struck by his words, Gwyneth pressed her lips together and looked into Liamâs eyes. Though she was the CEO of AMC, she had been quietly developing her influence behind the scenes somewhere else.
The development path of Glen Corporation was entirely different from that of AMC. With just a couple of sentences, Liam had given her a clear direction. âIt seems that from a corporate executiveâs perspective, this man isnât completely useless after allâ Gwyneth thought, a fleeting smile curling her lips. But the smile disappeared in an instant, unnoticed by Liam.
âAt todayâs shareholder meeting, Iâve already taken care of a few individuals. It seems I still need to pick them off one by one,â Gwyneth
said.
Upon hearing Gwynethâs words, a flicker of admiration crossed Liamâs eyes.
âYouâre right,â he said. âThe solution is right in front of us. The challenging part is dealing with people.â Liam pointed at the documents with his slender fingers, as if making a decisive decision. âGwyneth, the people is the key.â
They were now on the same page. After all, great minds think alike.
This conversation was quite unexpected for Gwyneth. She no longer felt any aversion toward Liam when she looked at him now.
Sensing a shift in Gwynethâs demeanor, Liam had a sudden realization. âClearly, I should seize this opportunity,â he thought. With that in mind, he gracefully rose from his seat and poured two cups of tea for both Gwyneth and himself. Sporting a calm expression, he began.â You know, Iâve been wanting to apologize to you.â
As Gwynethâs lips were about to touch the cup of tea, she was nearly taken aback by his words. She raised her head, briefly questioning whether she had misheard him.
Amidst Gwynethâs momentary confusion, Liam couldnât help but quietly chuckle to himself, finding Gwynethâs unintentional display of
innocence incredibly endearing.
Liam continued, âThe apology I mentioned is for the past. Itâs an apology for how I previously overlooked you.â
Gwyneth never expected Liam to offer such a sincere apology out of the blue. Nor did she anticipate that he was apologizing for the past events. Reflecting on the three years of deception and deliberale avoidance she had subjected him to. Gwyneth realized that claiming innocence wouldnât be justifiable.
Before Gwyneth could respond, Liam pressed on. âActually, what I mean is, if itâs possible, can we be friends?â
Gwynethâs reaction was one of surprise, âFriends?â The word sounded somewhat unfamiliar when spoken by Liarn.
âYes, letâs be friends. What do you think?â Liam believed Gwyneth would require some time to consider his proposition and was prepared to step back. However, to his astonishment, she simply nodded in agreement.
