The Sweetest Trophy Wife by Beanie
Chapter 42 Scars Would Gradually Fade
Elizabethâs voice quivered as she spoke, her words choked with emotion, and tears welled up in the corners of her eyes. She was truly terrified in that moment, so much so that after uttering those words, she instinctively took two steps back.
Liam hadnât expected such a strong reaction from Elizabeth. The intensity of her response only confirmed the inner turmoil she was experiencing. When people became anxious, their voices often rose involuntarily, a subconscious attempt to convince others.
Liamâs eyebrows furrowed unconsciously as he recalled Gwynethâs previous explanation about the distinction between burn and scald scars. Taking a stride forward with his long legs, he parted his thin lips slightly and spoke in a calm tone. âLately, Iâve been looking into burn scars and Iâve discovered that they can actually be completely eliminated.â
Liamâs tone, though devoid of emotion, sent shivers down Elizabethâs spine. His words abruptly halted her feigned tears. She lifted her head, gazing at the man in front of her. She clenched her teeth, desperately trying to steady her trembling lips.
Liam continued, âHaving such a deep scar can indeed impact your appearance. So, if youâre fine with it, I can getâ¦â
Before Liam could finish his sentence, Elizabeth interrupted him directly. âNo! I donât need your help!â She covered her mouth with one hand, reacting as if struck to the core or dealt a heavy blow. Without giving Liam a chance to respond, she brushed past his shoulder and hastily made her way out of the office.
It all happened so quickly, with emotions spiraling out of control, leaving Liam little time to reflect.
Liam sat back down in his chair. He pinched the bridge of his nose with his fingers, feeling a tinge of confusion. His gaze shifted to the steaming coffee. The moment he saw the sugar beside the cup, he let out a soft chuckle. âIâve always preferred my coffee bitter. When did
I start adding sugar?â
Liam immediately called his PA, instructing him to prepare a fresh cup of coffee. Then, he swiveled his chair around, positioning himself to face the expansive floorâtoâceiling windows of his office. In that moment, a touch of tenderness flickered in his eyes.
His mind wandered back to the image of Gwyneth showing the vivid burn scar that marred her waist back at the hospital. An undeniable yearning welled up within him. He picked up his phone and dialed a number.
âDo you need something?â The phone was answered, and an indifferent voice came through from the other end.
Liam couldnât help but let out a soft chuckle before saying. âI have a question for you.â He wasnât completely deceptive. There was indeed something he wanted to ask Gwyneth with this phone call. Yet, he chose to keep the majority of his emotions hidden deep inside.
Liam continued. âDuring our last visit to the hospital you mentioned that advanced techniques could potentially remove certain scars.
Can you do that?â
Gwyneth asked, âHow long has the scar been there?â
Liam responded, âItâs been over a decade.â
Gwyneth was taken aback by Liamâs answer. Initially, she had assumed he wanted to get rid of the burn scar on Elizabethâs arm. However, Liam referred to a scar that had persisted for more than ten years. Doubts clouded her mind, wondering if she had misjudged it previously. The burn scar on Elizabethâs arm certainly didnât appear as though it had been there for over a decade.
Gwyneth asked again, âMr. Luther, if you donât mind me asking, are you sure the scar you wish to remove has been present for over a decade?â
Liamâs posture straightened as he sat up in his chair, his previously relaxed eyebrows now furrowed. âWhat do you mean?â he retorted, a hint of confusion tainting his voice.
âWell typically, scars that have been present for over a decade tend to gradually fade due to metabolic processes,â Gwyneth replied. recalling the scar she had observed at the hospital. She was certain she hadnât misjudged it. Elizabethâs scar couldnât be more than a few years old at most. Furthermore, burns and scalds affected muscles differently, with scalds generally healing faster.
âAre you sure?â Liamâs voice sounded somewhat hoarse. In truth, he already had an answer in mind when he posed the question. However, he had underestimated his wifeâs fiery temperament. Sensing that Liam was once again doubting her medical expertise, Gwyneth abruptly ended the call hanging up on him.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth, who had fled from Liamâs office, quickly returned to her own office and locked the door behind her. She rolled up her sleeve, earnestly examining the scar on her armâa painful mark she had inflicted upon herself.

This was an unprecedented turn of events. Liam had never mentioned the fire incident from years ago, let alone the scar on Elizabethâs body. The changes in Liamâs behavior since his divorce from Gwyneth had left Elizabeth puzzled. After all, she had assumed the identity of the person who had once saved Liam, all in an effort to keep him by her side. However, the various signals emanating from Liam were increasingly unsettling, and Elizabeth couldnât shake the feeling that the truth would soon come to light.
âIt seems that there are still some traces left from that fire years ago,â Elizabeth murmured, sitting in her chair. Suddenly, it was as if a sudden realization had dawned upon her, her gaze grew intense.
After hanging up on Liam, Gwyneth stood up from her office chair and walked approached the mirror. Engulfed in hesitation for a brief moment, she lifted her shirt, revealing the gruesome scar encircling her waist. âIf Liam hadnât brought it up, I might have almost forgottenâ¦
