This Is The Part Where You Run

Part 3

RECAP

Hope decided to ask a question that Alaric didn't know how to answer. "How was she able to get pregnant if he was a Hybrid? And who's her mom?"

"Um, well, I'm not sure how to explain the pregnancy part but her mom is Liv, from the photo she picked up." Alaric said. Hope questioned if she was human or not and Alaric shook his head. "She was a witch, Hope, and her mom was related to Lizzie's and Josie's biological mom..." You stood there, flabbergasted. You were supernatural? How come your parents never told you? Was it because you were too young? Or because they died before they could tell you? You were related to the Twins? You had so many questions but you were knocked out of your train of thought when you heard branches snapping.

The brunette or should you say cousin from before was walking towards Alaric and Hope. Taking this as your que to leave, you run off to god knows where. You just needed to process this.

————

Before entering the Salvatore School, you brushed away your tears to make it appear as though you weren't crying. You were keeping your head down and were unaware that Alaric was approaching you. You wanted to speak to him but didn't know where to start.

"Hey, Kate. I need to talk to you, in my office. Is that okay?" Looking up at the man, you nodded your head. Both of you made you were to the office, you taking a seat where Landon previously was and The Saltzman taking a seat in his.

"What did you uh, want to talk about? Because I want to talk to you about something as well." You inquired.

Alaric brought his hands together. "Oh, did you want to go first?" He asked, but you shook your head, wanting him to go first. "Did you know your father and mother was supernatural?" He asked.

"Oh um.. I overheard you talking to Hope... about uh... my father and mother... that's what I wanted to talk to you about..." You stated, looking down so he wouldn't see the tears forming. Alaric widened his eyes a little. "But no, I never knew of the supernatural until now..."

Alaric nodded, he didn't voice it but he didn't understand how a supernatural girl would not know about the supernatural world. This girl is a mystery. "Well, do you know what supernatural creature you are..?" He questioned. Shaking your head he decided to continue. "Well, I'm guessing but I'm positive that you're one of a kind. A very rare, very powerful supernatural creature." He paused, why was he dragging this out? "It's called a Tribrid, a supernatural creature made up of werewolves, vampires, and witches."

He paused, watching as my reaction became unreadable. "So I'm... dangerous..?" You asked, this was a lot of information. The brown haired man didn't know how to answer that but you took as a yes. You nodded your head biting your lip. "I never knew of the supernatural until now. I-I can't do magic, I ca-can't transition from being a human to a-a werewolf, and- and force fangs out of my mouth and drink peoples blood." You rambled, stuttering a few words, letting a few tears fall. The lights started flickering at how much pressure you felt. Alaric realised that this was too much.

"All right. Calm down, it's okay. This school.. it will help you.." Alaric tried calming you down, it wasn't really working and the light's were still flickering. "You're not dang-" Alaric was cut short when the door opened revealing a startled Hope.

"Dr.Saltz-" She looked between you and Alaric. You kept you head low, but it was obvious you were not calm as your breathing was rapid. "man... um.. the lights were just flickering a lot and I just wanted to ask, why but it seems your busy.." Hope motioned towards you. "Um.. ar-are you okay, Kate?" You nodded, getting up and pushing past Hope and walking away.

For some reason, her voice.. calmed you? You ignored the thought and walked outside into the woods.

————

While walking down a trail behind the Salvatore School, you heard loud music but only paid attention to your thoughts. But you were brought back to reality when you heard you name.

"Kate?" The familiar voice of Landon called from behind you. Turning around you saw him, you smiled at him and ran towards him, engulfing him in a hug.

He hugged you back. "God, I'm missed you." You smiled into the crook of his neck. Landon and you let go of each other. "So... how'd you get out of where ever they took you?" You inquired. You were both walking side by side down the trail.

"Well- Josie decided to do a spell to get me out from where all that loud music is coming from." You looked up at him and smiled. "Rafael seems to fit in here.. he's been welcomed here with open arms, you know.. sometimes I wish I got that, that you got that as well.." Your smile went away at those words, there was a possibility that you were going to stay, but to not break your brothers heart, you stayed quiet. You nodded, but everything froze in place when a growl and rustling is heard.

"Landon..." You turn around, seeing a white wolf starring at you and Landon. The wolf starts running towards you two, the instinct to run came into play and you two started running, but obviously it was faster then you two. It jumped and pushed you too the ground, grunting at the impact to the floor, Landon looked at you with worry but didn't know what to do, but you soon felt hands grab your jacket and steal it. 'What..?' You thought.

"Are you crazy?! I almost killed you!" The familiar voice of Hope exclaimed. 'So she's a werewolf and witch?' You thought. But what you didn't know was that she was also a Tribrid.

————

We walked inside the school to what looks like a library. Landon goes to touch something causing Hope to speak up. "Don't touch that." She forcefully said to Landon.

"Sorry. I didn't. I-I mean, I wasn't..." You turn away rubbing your eyes at how awkward Landon is. But you take a breathe in and turn back to Landon. "Where are we?" He questioned

Hope looked around. "Uh, the Stefan Salvatore Memorial Library. All the artefacts in here have a supernatural history." Hope explained in a soothe voice that for some reason you enjoyed.

"What's the story on this one?" He asked, pointing to a dagger.

Hope shrugged. "No idea, but in my experience, your safest bet is to not touch it."

Landon nods. "Noted." You go to stand next to Landon and watch as Hope sighs.

"I'm sorry about emailer. You shouldn't have been out there." Hope apologised.

"Yeah. I'll file that under the things that seem really obvious after the fact." He stated. "So... I guess this means you're a werewolf." Your brother said, sounding unsure.

"I'm a lot of things." Hope stated looking down.

'What does she mean by that? Is she meaning supernatural?' You wondered. "Care to elaborate?" You asked, moving forward so you were closer to the table. Hope looked up and into your eyes before looking away, it looked like she was.. flustered?

"They're just gonna make you forget tomorrow." Hope said looked at Landon. Landon wondered why she wasn't looking at you but pushed the thought away and came closer so he was standing beside you.

"Humor us." He said, softly smiling.

Hope smiled back a little until she went to the bookshelf behind her and grabbed a book. "My dad was on of the earth's Original Vampires." You looked down with widened eyes. So she was a vampire too? Was she a Tribrid like Alaric said I was?

"Was?" You asked, looking back up.

"Was." She stated again. "Turns out even immortal beings can find a way to die eventually." Hope said a small crack in her voice.

Landon read out the words on the page that Hope had flicked too. " 'Klaus Mikaelson: The Great Evil.' "

"He wasn't very popular around here." She summarised why it was labeled like that.

"One of my foster dads used to burn us, as in Rafael and I, with his cigarettes. I guess evil is relative." Landon joked.

"My mother was a Werewolf Alpha." Hope said. Looking down to hide her teary eyes.

"There's that 'was' again." Landon stated.

Hope sighed. "The people I care about have a tendency to die on me. I try not to get close to people anymore." Hope looked back up.

"Yeah, we can see that." You mumbled but it was still heard. Hope didn't take offence to it or anything which was good, you hope.

"Um, my grandmother was a witch. So, all those things passed, making me..." Before Hope could finish Landon butted in.

"A unicorn?" Landon joked.

Hope smiled. "A Hybrid of three different creatures," and again before she could finish, you cut in.

"A Tribrid." You said, looking at her. She looked at you shocked that you knew, Landon just looked confused at how you knew that.

"How did you know?" Landon asked, confused.

You bit your lip. "We don't talk about that.. ever.." You stated, looking at him.

Hope decided to continue. She was going to question how you knew that later on. "I can control when I turn, which is what I was doing tonight... I'm the only one of my kind, or at least I think I am.." Hope said, looking at you. With flushed cheeks at how she stated you being supernatural you looked down.

"Yeah, see? Unicorn." Landon joked, earning a laugh from you and Hope.

"Can I show you something?" Hope asked Landon. It wasn't directed at you so you moved to sit down on the table and just watch. "Earlier, you mentioned the jock that had messed with you the day that we danced." Landon stood still, closing his eyes as Hope rested her hands on his head. You were so confused.

"You can just dial up one of my memories like that?" Landon questioned.

Hope sighed. "It's not your memory. It's mine." Hope stated clearly.

Something was obviously happening because then they stopped and Hope's hand just dropped to her side, Landon looking into her eyes. "You did that for me?" He inquired.

Hope made a thinking face before responding. "He had it coming." Hope smiled, then Landon which caused you to smile. "Um, we shouldn't be in here after curfew. We should get you back before anyone knows that you're gone."

Landon nodded. You and Landon followed Hope to where Landon would be staying. When you got down there it seemed as though Landon and Hope needed a moment. "I'll give you two a moment." You paused before walking towards Landon and wrapping your arms around his torso. "Good night and love you big bro." You smirked. He hated being called 'big bro'. He hugged back.

"You know I don't like that." He stated, you winked at him then left. When you got up the stairs you made your way to the stairs—which took a while since you didn't know where you were going— but you finally made it and just sat down.

It had been 5 to 10 minutes and thats when Hope showed up. "Do you have anywhere to sleep?" Hope asked, looking down at you. You shook your head. "You can sleep in my room. Besides, we need to talk about how you knew about Tribrids." Was she mad you knew of Tribrid's because Alaric told you? Were you going to tell her you overheard her and Alaric's conversation? You tried to ignore the thoughts of what could happen but they didn't go away.

You followed Hope up the stairs to her room. Shutting the door behind you, you stood awkwardly as you didn't know what to do. "You can take some PJ's if you want, top draw." Hope said, looking at you. You gave her a thankful smile and grabbed some space Pyjama's. "I'll just- I'll turn around." Hope awkwardly stated.

You quickly changed due to the cold air pinching your skin. "You can looked now.." You stated, just grabbing your clothes and putting them on the ground in a little pile besides the wall. Hope turned and smiled a little, but quickly changing her demeanour and facial expressions.

"Now, how'd you know about Tribrids..?" Hope asked, sitting down on the end of her bed and tapping the spot beside her for you to sit.

You cleared your throat. "Well, one, I was in the woods when you and Alaric were training and I overheard about how my parents were supernatural and how I was supernatural. And two. Alaric came up to me when I entered the school and he told me that, and I quote; 'you're one of a kind. A very rare, very powerful supernatural creature.' Then he said Tribrid and how it's made up of Werewolves, Vampires and Witches. So that's how I knew." You looked down, as if you didn't want to see Hope's expression.

Hope nodded. "Did you're parents never tell you of the supernatural?" You shook your heard, looking back up at her.

"No, they died when I was... four years old.. so.." Hope's eyes widened. She had lost her parents but not that young. She couldn't imagine how she was feeling for that many years.

'I know this may be kind of a random and rude question but... do you know how they died?" Hope asked, her expression as soft as you've seen her since you first met.

You nodded your head. "Yeah.. I was told a car crash.. but assuming a car crash couldn't kill a Hybrid, I'm guessing not but my mom.. she was a witch so I've been told so I'm assuming yes, she died in a car crash.." You looked up so tears wouldn't fall. "Can we talk about something else or just go to sleep..?" You asked, a tear finally escaping, but you quickly wipe it away.

Hope nodded. "You can sleep in my bed. I'll sleep on the chair." Hope said, you felt bad that she was sleeping on the chair and not in her own bed.

"No, no it's okay... we can share it.." You smiled at her. She smiled back, turning off the lights and getting into her bed, you doing the same thing. You both quickly falling asleep.

————

The next morning, you and Hope stood in Alaric's office, you in your clothes you had on yesterday, Hope in her Salvatore uniform

"It's been hours. You ready for round two?" Alaric asked. You moved from Hope's side to Landons.

"Actually... I was wondering if I could stay..." Landon questioned.

Alaric sighed. "I can put you in touch with somebody who can help you with your problem at home..." Landon cut off Alaric.

"We don't have a home." Landon pointed between you and him. "Not anymore. We can work. We can do the dishes and help with the janitorial stuff, I can cook..." Landon rambled on about how he can help if we stayed but  you didn't say anything since there was a huge possibility you were going to stay.

"I'm sorry, Landon, but you don't belong here." Alaric looked Landon.

"What about Kate? You've hardly said anything about her leaving." They stayed silent, you didn't know what to do. Landon sighed before asking a question. "Then where do I belong? Tell me where I should go. You have no idea what it's like out there. I don't want to cause trouble. I just want a way out of my own life." Landon stated. You looked up at him with a sad face before looking back at Alaric.

"I know it seems cruel, but please understand, this school was created so we could shape the minds of young supernatural beings, protect their secret, and then send them out into the human world fully equipped to handle it." Alaric started. "We are here to prevent these great kids from indulging in their darkest impulses. Make no mistake, these are predatory creatures. Vampires are driven by the feed and the kill. Wolves can't control themselves in their primal state. And witches... witches, when provoked, are responsible for some of the worst atrocities in history. It's simply not safe for you here." Alaric said so simply. If Landon stayed would there be consequences? "I'm sorry."

Landon quietly spoke. "I understand..." Alaric nodded, pressing a button.

"Have MG come on in, please." Alaric spoke into the speaker. The doors opens and reveals MG.

"I'm sorry about yesterday. But your buddy's gonna be okay here. We'll look out for him. Now all you got to do is go home." MG said his apology before doing what I've been told is compulsion. "Forget everything that you've seen or learned in the past two days. All you need to know is that your friend has found a home where he can live a better life..." MG's voice stops and turns towards you.

"No, not her, MG." Alaric said before you grabbed my shoulder. MG nodded, confused by listened. Landon, Rafael and You all walked outside to say goodbye to Landon.

"Are you sure?" Rafael asked, wrapping an arm around your shoulder.

Landon nodded. "Yeah, I'll be fine." Landon smiled. "I promise." We did a group hug and said out goodbyes, a tear escaping.

"So... why are you staying?" Rafael asked.

"Turns out I'm supernatural." Rafaels face turned from confused to shocked. Seeing his face, you continue. "I know, crazy." You both walked inside. You and Rafael went your seperate ways and you went towards Alaric and Hope.

"What's wrong..?" You inquired, hands in your jean pockets.

"Landon stole and knife and faked being compelled." Alaric summarised.

Hope looked at Alaric then back at me. "He didn't." She said, confidently. You didn't know who to believe. "I'm not that stupid." Hope continued her conversation with Alaric.

"When he walked out that door, we compelled him to go home."Alaric stated, thinking Hope would get the point.

"So?' You both asked in union.

"So, he didn't. It's the first place we checked. And if he didn't go home, that means his memory wasn't erased." Alaric paused.

"He was just pretending that it was?" Alaric nodded. You shook your head. "No, I know him, he doesn't lie.." You stated, Alaric looked at you, he wanted you to believe him but you didn't want to.

"If his mind can't be controlled by a supernatural being, then only that means one thing." Alaric pointed out. "That he is a supernatural being."

————

You followed hope up to a room. No clue who's it was but just followed anyway because she asked you too.

"I need your help." Hope spoke as she opened the bedroom door.

"Three more words to me than your annual average." The Brunette said, walking and sitting on her bed. Hope shut the door. She then looked at me. "Why'd you bring Kate? Isn't she suppose to be gone??" Josie asked, you knew she wasn't trying to be mean so you stayed quiet. Since hope didn't answer Josie continued. "Find someone else."

Hope sighed coming further into the room. You close behind. "This stuff with Landon is my fault. I can fix it. I know how to track him, but it involves using dark magic..." Hope trailed off. "That's why Kate is here.. she's going to help but also learnt some magic.."

Josie widened her eyes. "She's a witch?" She asked. You shook your head.

"I'm a Tribrid.." You softly said, standing slightly behind Hope. Josies' eyes widened even more if that was possible.

"How?" She asked but knowing it was going to take a while to explain. She continued about the dark magic. "Well, we're not allowed to use dark magic here, so..."

Hope fired back. "Says the girl who just lit her ex's hair on fire."

"Are you blackmailing me?" Josie questioned.

Hope shook her head. "No. No, I'm just looking for a kindred spirit in revenge." Hope stated, causing you to giggle quietly thinking no one heard but Hope heard and had a little smirk on her face. Josie lights the match to then light up a candle. Hope opens the spell page. Hope had grabbed a rat from god knows where. "Sorry.." She apologised to the rat as she snapped it's neck. Josie blows out the match.

Hope cut it's stomach, letting blood spill out onto the spell book. 'What..-' You thought but ignored it. Josie adds some dirt or something.

You sat down next to Josie. Just doing what she was doing as you didn't know what to do.

"Are you sure about this?" Josie asked, unsure if she could do this.

Hope nodded, confidently. "Absolutely." You all intertwine you hands to perform the spell. "Inveniet hostium et tenebrae." Josie started repeating it and so once you finally got the words, you also started. You never knew what magic was until a couple days ago so doing this spell took a lot of energy.

"Inveniet hostium et tenebrae. Inveniet hostium et tenebrae." You all repeated.

"Do you see anything?" Josie asked.

Hope shook her head. "Just flashes. Come on.. give me something." Then there was horns from cars heard.

You spoke. "I got it. Route 29."

"Near the state line." Hope added. Landon pulls the knife out from his jacket's inner pocket.

Josie questioned. "Is that the knife?"

Hope nodded. "Yeah."

Josie made a confused face. "What's it doing?"

We all looked shocked as the knife starts to turn a red colour, like fire.

"I have no idea." Hope stated.

The knife gradually became brighter as we all looked, until it suddenly became so intense that Landon had to look away. That's when the spell finished. Everyone disengaged their hands, you lifted your right hand to your nose in anticipation of feeling anything, only to be met by a bloody nose. Most likely with all the strength you expended casting your first spell ever.

"Hey, you okay?" The brunette asked. You nodded before wiping away the bloody nose. Josie looked at Hope."Can I speak to you for a moment, Hope?" She asked, Hope nodded, looking at you to make sure you were okay and they both moved to a corner of the room to speak.

It was obviously about you doing your first spell as you heard Josie say something along the lines of 'it's her first spell, that was too dangerous, she had a blood nose  because of it' or something.

————

"Called in a favor with a buddy at State Patrol, asked him to lock down the scene 'till we got here." The Sheriff stated. You tagged along because it was your brother and you want to find him. "Local PD thinks it was a chemical spill." He said. You felt eyes on you and from the corner of your eye you saw Hope. Why would she be starring at you?

"What's the actual story?" Alaric asked. the Sheriff stayed quiet.

He sighed. "I'll leave that to you to figure out." He nodded towards Alaric. He then looked at you as if he knew you from somewhere, but he obviously ignored the thought when Alaric spoke.

"All right. Thanks Sheriff." Alaric said. The Sheriff walking away.

We then proceed to the bus and board it. Alaric comes first, then you, and then Hope. When we boarded, everything was black from the fire and we all saw burned bodies. You turned aside because there were bodies everywhere; Landon could not have done this.......

or did he...?

————

"Funny how life works. After years of pushing people away, I opened my heart to Landon Kirby, the human in the wrong place at the right time who just needed a place to belong. Turns out, Landon isn't the hero of my story at all. But when I hunt him down, I'm gonna be the villain of his."

————

A.N: All right, first episode finished. Sorry it took sooooo long to finish but i promised I'd have it done and now it it after 4000 words ;-;

and it turns out my best friend is reading this book so if you see this bestie, you didn't and you don't know me.

also, how do you want Hope and Kate's love story to work? I'm thinking slow burn for season 1, then maybe after Hope sacrifices herself and Kate doesn't remember her, she finds someone else to love? If so, who do you want that someone to be?

of course they will be in love again but you get what I mean :)

keep in mind this is my first book so if it's going too fast or too slow or it's just shit in general, please tell me :))
