RECAP
Alaric laughed. "We teach that, too." But he was quick to change subject. "I have some questions about Rafael."
Landon looked at Alaric. "Like what?" You were also intrigued as to what he wanted to ask.
"Well, let's start with who he killed recently." Alaric said, dead serious.
Landon looked at me and you looked at him. Hope looked between us, knowing we knew something. You didn't want to say anything and he didn't so you both looked at the Saltzman disgusted and confused by the question. 'How are we going to get out of this...' You think to yourself.
ââââ
Landon and You looked at the Saltzman. "Why would you ask us that?" You questioned.
Alaric intervened, speaking in a soothing toneâwhich did not soothe usâto prevent us from overreacting to the question. "The werewolf gene lies dormant until he carrier takes a human life. If Rafael triggered his curse, it's... because he killed someone." Alaric held still. Hope nodded her head in approval. Landon turned to face you, and you returned the gaze, urging him not to speak. "And we don't accept cold blooded killers into our program."
'Cold blooded killer?' You thought, causing it to get on your nerves. "He's not a killer." You replied to the remark while gritting your teeth. Hope opened her eyes and saw a very slight flicker in the light. Hope inquired how it could flicker and then turned to face you. She pushed away the thought that she couldn't possibly be a witch.
The auburn haired girl spoke up. "We're not trying..." Quickly, she was cut off from Landon backing you up.
"He not... a killer."Â Landon repeated, looking at you and giving a small smile before turning back to look the the other two.
Alaric nodded, he saw that you two were making it very clear that he wasn't, but still needing proof, Alaric continued. "Well, i know a little bit about his background. Neglectful birth parents. Orphaned in adolescence. Six foster homes in seven years. Prone to fits of anger." Alaric was cut short.
Landon decided to speak up. "Yeah, you could just as easily be reading my file..." You also understood why Landon merely said his file because you knew you hadn't experienced what Rafael and he had. "That's what it's like out there for people like him and me."
Hope butted in. "Landon, I know this is a lot to take in right now, but we're only trying to help." Hope stopped looking at me then back at Landon. I've been going here since I was seven. This is a safe place for people like Rafael." Hope paused, taking a quick glance at Alaric before looking back at your brother. "It's a home.
"But if we take him in, we need to make sure that he is not a threat." Alaric stated. Landon sighed knowing he was going to have to explain since you weren't going to say anything. Knowing that sigh you mentally face palm yourself.
"His girlfriend... Cassie. Last month... he was driving, there was a storm, he took a turn too fast. And then he started acting out. At first we thought it was just grief. And then maybe... maybe drugs or something. And then he threw a 200 pound lawnmower across the yard." Landon stopped, unable to say anymore so you continued.
"That was when our foster parents called in the priest. I guess they thought he was possessed by the devil." You stated firmly. Not wanting to state anything else.
Alaric coughed a little. "All of that is... consistent with a newly triggered wolf."
"It's normal." Hope restated.
"Thank you for that Landon, Kate. Everything's gonna be okay." The Saltzman said. "I promise. We're ready." Alaric called. The door opened revealing a dark skinned man. "Landon Kirby, Kate, Milton Greasley."
"Come on, Dr. Saltzman." Milton responded to The Saltzmans' comment. The thought of knowing his last name somewhere comes back to your head. 'Where have I heard that name..?' You questioned, thoughtfully.
"Right, MG. I'm sorry. Take it from a guy named Alaric." The headmaster said, trying to make a joke which wasn't funny. "I get it. Landon, MG is my student aide."
"He's also a vampire." The auburn haired girl stated.
"Of course he is." Landon said, getting up, standing beside me. "You know, for a school with a secret to keep, you're kind of liberal with your information." Landon stated. He was right.
"Well, we don't actually intend for you to remember any of it. You zoned out, looking at the picture frames on the bookshelf. One particular photo caught your interest.
"Forget everything you've seen or learned since last night. All you need to know is that your friend has found a home where he can live a better life. You'll miss him." You heard MG say to Landon in a voice that sounded like a seductive tone but wasn't. You attention was brought back when MG went to move onto you and say the same thing but MG was stopped.
"Are you guys out of your minds? How could we forget any of this?" Landon questioned. Hope had a shocked look on her face.
"MG, did you do it wrong?" She accused MG of doing whatever he was doing to Landon.
He shook his head. "No, I didn't do it wrong. It's the easiest vampire trick in the book." You and Landon gave each other scared but confused faces.
Hope rolled her eyes. "Well, it didn't work."
The town haired boy glared at Hope. "Obviously it didn't work."
Landon looked at you with the 'let's escape now' look. You shook your head but it was too late. Landon has started running but the vampire was quick to react and wrapped his arm around Landon's neck, knocking him unconscious. You stood there, unsure of what to do.
"Careful. Get him to the root cellar. This is not good. This is bad." Alaric stated. How could any of this be good? They just tried doing something to convince Landon and soon to be you that Rafael was safe.
You looked at Alaric before glancing over at the photo that caught your attention before. You made your way over to the photo frame and saw a picture of many students, at least 7 to 8 and Alaric, a teacher. But the one that caught your eye was a man. Your father.
Alaric came over to you, seeing that you were fixated on something else. "What are you looking at?" He asked. You held the photo frame and pointed at your father.
"How did you know him?" You asked, tears forming, you hadn't seen anything of him since you were 4 years old.
Alaric gave you a confused look. "He was my student at Mystic Fall's High. Why did you want to know?" He inquired.
You looked down, forcing yourself to hold in a sob, when you got in under control, you looked up again. "Because he's my father."
ââââ
You were walking around the giant pond outside of the school. Alaric had let you figuring that you need some time alone. But also because he needed time alone to comprehend that you were Tyler's daughter. You came across a dock but saw Hope and Alaric training. You hide behind a tree, listening to them.
"You didn't have to lock him in the cellar." Hope commented, it was obvious she was annoyed.
"Where else was I gonna put him?" Alaric quickly replied, only to be met with a shrug. "Block with your hand."
Hope let out a sigh she didn't know she was holding. "I got it." She angrily said to her mentor.
"If you had it, I wouldn't have to say it." Alaric pointed out, only to be met with a Latin word that forced him to the ground when he went for Hope.
"Dimiterre." Hope said, landing on top of Alaric.
"Cheater." Getting up, Hope let out her hand to help Alaric off his back.
Hope decided to make a comment. "You should really let a vampire start doing my training. You're getting a little old for me to break your human bones." Hope joked.
"How dare you?" Alaric joked back. You rolled your eyes. Hope drank some water and Alaric doing the same, then he continued. "You and Landon have a thing or something?"
"I don't have things." Hope fired back. Why was she so guarded?
"Yes, I'm well aware of your quest to avoid all emotional intimacy. There was obviously something." Obviously? The girl practically started day dreaming when she saw your brother.
"I liked him. He's normal." Hope stated the truth.
" Well, let's keep him that way. We survive here because we follow the rules. We can't get sloppy about it." Alaric commented.
Hope decided to comment on that. "You're the one that's always telling me I need to get out more."
"I tell you that you need to stop locking yourself in your dorm room binge-watching 'Cutthroat Kitchen'. I don't tell you to go out and fraternize with the human locals." Alaric stated in a much longer way than needed.
"You know, you can just be my headmaster. All this other stuff isn't in the job description." Hope stared at him.
Alaric fired back. "Attempt to make an actual friend here, and we could reevaluate this relationship." Hope rolled her eyes.
"So, what were you and that girl Kate talking about when i left to go check on Landon?" Hope inquired. Alaric froze before sighing, knowing he was going to have to tell her.
Alaric sighed. "She walked up to a frame that had Elena, Damon, Liv, Stefan, Bonnie, Jeremy, Caroline, Me and.... Tyler." Alaric stated, looking at Hope to see if she caught onâwhich she didn't.
"Okay, and?" She squinted her eyes. Alaric let out another sigh. "Stop sighing, Ric. Jeez."
Alaric gave in. "She questioned how I knew a man in the frame, which was Tyler. I told her that I taught him at Mystic Fall's High. I was confused before.." Alaric trailed off, before continuing. "before she said that Tyler was her father." You were so confused as to why it was such a big deal.
"Wasn't Tyler a werewolf?" Hope questioned. Your jaw dropped, you were a werewolf?
"Yes, but also a vampire." Hope looked at him with a baffled face. Your jaw dropped even more if that was even possible.
Hope decided to ask a question that Alaric didn't know how to answer. "How was she able to get pregnant if he was a Hybrid? And who's her mom?"
"Um, well, I'm not sure how to explain the pregnancy part but her mom is Liv, from the photo she picked up." Alaric said. Hope questioned if she was human or not and Alaric shook his head. "She was a witch, Hope, and her mom was related to Lizzie's and Josie's biological mom..." You stood there, flabbergasted. You were supernatural? How come your parents never told you? Was it because you were too young? Or because they died before they could tell you? You were related to the Twins? You had so many questions but you were knocked out of your train of thought when you heard branches snapping.
The brunette or should you say cousin from before was walking towards Alaric and Hope. Taking this as your que to leave, you run off to god knows where. You just needed to process this.
