RECAP

Alaric looked at Landon. "We've been wondering if he's supernatural." Alaric responded. "We have out answer."

You and Hope glanced at each other. "What?" You questioned lowly but then there was crackling from Landons body and movement. You gasped as you watched the body move, you put a hand on your mouth and Hope rubbed your back.

Landon then started breaking out of whatever he was in and got up, starring at all of you. "What's going on?" He asked, confused. You stared at him with teary eyes.

Alaric was shocked and surprised. "You ever heard of the legend of the Phoenix?" Alaric asked as Landon breathed heavily.

————

You ran through the woods, searching for Landon. "Landon?" You called, but once you turned a corner you saw hum laying there dead. "Landon!" You ran to his body and picked him up. There was no response to you picking him up and laying him on your lap. Tears threatened to fall as sobs escaped your lips. "No. No. No. No. This can't be happening." You choked as you screamed. "Landon!"

You then wake up to a giant bang and Landon groaning. You opened your eyes but groaned as you lifted yourself up. "Oh my god. Landon, Are you okay?" Hope asked as she helped Landon off the floor.

Landon coughed. "Ow. I was recently dead, so I think I'll mend." Landon responded, groaning.

You held your head. "What happened?" You questioned as you looked at the two.

"You were having a nightmare." Hope answered.

You looked at her confused but then stared at Landon. "And then you screamed and some magical wave thing hit me, and now I have art supplies where no man should." Landon chuckled while you let your hand fall, confused.

Landon then left and Hope came and sat down next to you. "I guess Landon dying did more to me than I thought." You looked at Hope.

Hopes face went to one of worry. "Is that what your nightmare was about?" She questioned while you nodded. Hope sighed. "You were sleeping on me, that's when you started whimpering and I started calling your name, Landon heard and I had gotten out of the way, that's when you screamed and threw him into the art supplies." Hope explained, while you just nodded.

You crossed your legs as you put your hand through your hair. "I guess seeing his body and believing he was dead really scared me." You responded, looking down at your hands.

The auburn haired girl nodded her head up and down. "Well, death does that, even if it's only temporary." Hope replied, smiling at you while you smiled back.

Then a knock was heard. "Hey." Alaric said as he stood in the door way. "Kate, mind if we spar?" He only asked you and that was a bit weird. Hope and you looked back at each other.

You shrugged, nodding. "Sure." You responded, Ric smiled as he then walked off.

————

You and Alaric were sparring in the gym. "So, what's wrong with you?" The headmaster questioned as you continued sparring.

You breathed heavily. "Nothing, I'm fine." You responded, you weren't completely fine.

Both of you were panting. "Landon told me about your little incident." He ignored your comment, knowing you weren't okay.

Putting the sparring sticks on your back you scoffed. "Isn't confidently a thing? It should be." You replied sarcastically, going at him again.

Alaric blocked every hit. "He's just worried about you, that's all." He responded.

You looked at the older man. "He doesn't need to be." You went at him again, grunting.

"Are you sure?" He questioned. "It seems like you're manifesting a little stress and anxiety. My guess is, you're still dealing with the trauma of seeing Landon dead." Alaric summarised but you ignored him until a little break happened.

You rolled your eyes. "I've been through worse." You replied, going at him once again.

Alaric was good, he was blacking every single shot you threw at him, literally. "I mean, with your family dying, I just want to make sure-"

"I said I'm fine!" You cut him off, yelling but sending him to the other side of the gym. You gasped as you did that. "Okay... I-I could stand to blow off some steam. I'm gonna... go check the woods to see if I can 'wolf out' if that's what it's called to see if I can do it without screaming in pain or do something that doesn't involve me getting anyone upset or being around people." You threw the sparring sticks to the ground walking out the gym, glancing at Alaric on the floor as you opened a door and left the gym.

You couldn't 'wolf out' sadly so you sat by the lake until a meeting in the assembly was called and your time by the lake was gone. You now sat in the assembly hall, Ric and Lizzie on stage. "I have some news. Many of you, like me, have forgotten that we are hosting this year's Miss Mystic Falls Pageant." Students were murmuring around as he said that. "Trust me, I know. But, the rotation is set in stone. So, let's take the opportunity to maintain our image as a normal school for the rich and awful. As usual, anything remotely magical, enchanted, vampire, wolf or witch-related must be kept tucked away, hidden, and under lock and key." He explained. Great, in your state that's gonna turn out wonderful. "Now... with your chore assignments." He moved out of the way for Lizzie to take the stage.

She happily took and immediately started talking. "Okay, so we'll split into teams." Lizzie started, looking down at the sheet of paper.

You and Hope stood in a room with multiple animals. Hope was holding a clipboard while you stood next to her. "Hey, Hope." Landon came in, holding two cages. "You have any idea where these guys go?" He held them up as he came to stop in front of you and Hope.

Hope nodded. "Yeah, anywhere but with the birds. The ravens and the finches are fine, but the rats drive the owls crazy." Hope responded, walking off as Landon placed the rats down.

You went to walk over with Hope but stopped when Landon started speaking. "So I've been thinking about why you've been acting so weird." Landon looked you.

You crossed your arms over your chest, sighing. "Suddenly everyone's got a psychology degree around here." You replied sarcastically with a small smile.

Landon shook his head. "No, i just... I just think you have cold feet."

You scrunched up your eyebrows at his response. "About what?" You asked.

He moved his body to face you. "You and Hope." You looked confused. "You know, you're good. You're finally in a solid relationship based on honesty and openness and..." he trailed off, you wanted to know where he was going with this. "You're both relatively indestructible. You finally have a long, clear road ahead of you two, you know, with no obstacles." Landon explained.

You nodded, letting your arms fall. "If that's what you believe, believe it." You said, walking away from him.

Landon looked at you confused. "Is it something else?" He called and you shook your head, he then walked away him self, leaving the room.

You stood in front of Hope. "You okay?" Hope asked, her eyes gazing between yours.

You sighed. "I don't know how I'm gonna handle today. No supernatural abilities today? I'm a reck, this isn't a great day and it started with my throwing Landon across the room." You replied to Hope. Hope nodded knowing there was nothing she could say but then her gaze fell on someone behind you. You looked behind you to see a man who waved at Hope. You looked back at Hope confused. "Who is that?" You questioned.

Hope looked at the guy then at you. "Um..." She looked down from your eye sight then up again. "That is Roman." Hope looked back at him then looked down, turning her body away from him. "My ex-boyfriend."

You looked at her, surprised. "Oh." You whispered.

He walked over, smiling. You moved from being in front of Hope to lean on the table so Hope could speak to him. Today was not your day. "What brings you here?"Hope asked Roman.

"Dr. Saltzman's been a little overwhelmed, so, uh, I've been doing a little... recruiting recon for him lately. But he asked me to come in today and lend a hand." Roman explained.

Hope nodded before turning back to you. "Oh, uh, this is Kate." Hope introduced you.

You looked over at Roman. "Her girlfriend." Roman was shocked that Hope would have a girlfriend. "And also a Tribrid." You lifted your arms and crossed them over your chest. He was shocked by that too. "By the way, today isn't my day so don't get on my nerves." You glared at Roman before looking down.

Roman nodded, looking back at Hope. "I better go find Dr.Saltzman." Roman then started walking away.

Hope turned around to look at you. "That was a little alpha female of you." Hope looked you up and down.

You stared at Hopes eyes. "I mean, is that the ninety year old vampire ex you may have mentioned murdered your mom?" You asked, trying to not get on the subject of you being upset and having a bad day.

Hope sighed, nodding. "It is." You went to say something but Hope stopped you. "Though I don't hold him responsible for what happened anymore." She responded.

You started to walk off but she stopped you. "Why'd you tell Roman you were having a bad day?" Hope inquired. She asked you the one thing you didn't want her to ask.

You sighed and took your place back on the table. "I don't like him, so I basically told him to leave me alone." You responded.

Hope half laughed. "You just met him, Kate." Hope replied. You nodded knowing that she was right. "Come on, let's get a new task." Hope grabbed your hand and dragged you to the assembly hall, that's when you both stopped in front of Lizzie. "We need another task." Hope told Lizzie he looked up from her clipboard. "Something more strenuous if you have it." Hope explained.

Lizzie smirked at Hope. "Does this have anything to do with the return of Roman Sienna? Because I can think of something real strenuous." Lizzie replied.

You made a disgusted face while Hope just stared at Lizzie, not surprised by her remark. "It's not about Roman. We just need a release. With all these humans coming to campus, we can't wolf out." Hope explained.

Lizzie looked at you and Hope, not asking any questions. "Okay. I'll make you a list." Lizzie looked behind you guys and gasped. "The judges are here. Excuse me." Lizzie then walked off.

You and Hope just stood there, it's like as soon as she saw the judges she completely forgot about the list. "I can't, she moves on from thing to thing, forgetting about the first thing." You groaned, sighing.

Hope tilted her head. "That's Lizzie for you." Hope replied, facing you.

You scoffed. "She needs to work on it." You looked over at Lizzie talking to the judges, then Danas mom appeared. You looked back at Hope. "Danas mom is here." You kept your voice low. Hopes eyes looked behind you and saw her, then she looked back at you, not really surprised.

After a while Lizzie grabbed your arm and Hopes arm, dragging you to a room that had Josie and Penelope in it already. Lizzie then shut the door, walking back. "I am withdrawing from Miss Mystic Falls. Effective immediately." Lizzie stood in front of us, turning around.

Hope let her arms out and placing them on her skirt. "I thought you had something important to tell us." Hope fired at Lizzie, sitting on the table.

"Come for the underwhelming announcement, stay for the epic meltdown." Penelope commented.

Josie rolled her eyes at both the girls' comments. "Okay, wait, why are you quitting?" Josie questioned.

Lizzie sighed. "A personal issue with one of the judges. A direct result of that bitch, Dana's sabotage." Lizzie replied to Josies question.

You crossed your arms over your chest. "She's dead, Lizzie." You commented on Lizzie comment.

Lizzie looked at you. "Correction: that dead bitch Dana's sabotage." You rolled your eyes, knowing Lizzie wouldn't be nice about Danas death. "Costing me the crown from beyond the grave." Lizzie sighed, biting her lip before looking at everyone in the room. "The head judge is her mother."

Lizzie sat down so she wasn't standing. "The town pharmacist. There is always next year for me. But that does not mean that we here at the Salvatore School shouldn't bring home the title and stick it to those townies." You all looked done with this. "So, I have studied all of the stats and advanced metrics, and I have chosen two replacements." Josie smiled, thinking it would be her. "Hope Mikaelson and Kate Lockwood." You and Hope looked Lizzie shocked, you both didn't want this but now you had to do it.

A.N: Do you think its fair I made Lizzie choose two replacement and not just one? I just figured it'd be better for the story. :)
