RECAP
"I heard basically the whole thing.." You trailed off, looking down before looking back up. "Is it true that you only let your guard down around me?" You questioned. Hope nodded, she didn't want to lie. "Why is that?" You inquired.
"Well... I like you, Kate." Hope responded. The ball glowing blue, but you acted as if you didn't see it. "But not like the 'crush' kind of way, just as friends." Hope continued. From the corner of your eye you saw the once blue ball become red. Why she was lying?
Did she really have a crush on you...?

Rafael breathed heavily. "I'm gonna tear Jed apart." Rafael breathed out.
"No, you're really not." Hope disagreed. Rafael turned around and locked eyes with Hope.
You moved to sit next to Landon, comforting him. "He's gonna pay for what he did. He could've killed him." Rafael arrugues.
"You want to do something to help him? Take a walk to the herb garden and get me some hazelwood root." Hope didn't loose eye connect with Rafael.
Rafael sighed and opened the door before closing it.
Landon and you looked over at Hope. "What does hazelwood root do?" Landon questioned.
"Make him cool off before he realises that I made it up." Hope sat on the bed.
You got out of Landon warm embrace, getting out of the bed. "I'll give you two some alone time." For some reason, saying that made your heart burn with pain, like you didn't want to leave the two of them alone and just want to be with Hope, which was weird.
They both nodded and you made your way to Hope rooms, grabbing you diary to write in it. You haven't since 2022, so why would you start writing now?
You chose to write instead of thinking about it. 'Dear Diary, I haven't written in this diary in a while, and I have no idea why I'm writing in it right now, but... Apparently, writing is the only way for me to let off some steam without erupting into a rage.' You took a moment to consider what to write, but you eventually came up with an idea. 'Today, Hope, a lady I recently met, admitted to liking me, but only as friends and not in a "crush" kind of way. Does that suggest she has a crush on me, though? She was holding a ball at the time, and it went red as she said that.' You didn't know what else to write in the diary, so you just left it at that and set the book on the nightstand.
You looked up at the sound of the door opening and it was Hope. Your to up out of the bed and walk towards her. "Hey, are you okay?" You asked.
Hope nodded. "Yeah, Landon said something to me that made a lot of sense and now I'm here-"
You cut her off. "What did he say that would bring you here to talk to me?" You inquired.
"This." Hope pulled out the ball from before.
You looked acted confused. "A ball?" You asked.
"It's a lie detector, basically." Hope moved to sit on the bed and you followed her actions, shutting the doors first."I've asked Landon a question just now and he lied and that's when I realised I should ask you some questions." Hope placed the ball down. "When were you born? Tell the truth."
You nodded. "February 5, 2012." The ball glowed blue.
"That's truth. Now tell me a lie." The ball turned back to a grey colour. "What's your favourite colour?"
"Green." You lied like Hope said, the ball turned red.
"It's a magical lie detector.." Hope trailed off. "And I wanted to ask you some things and for you to do the same thing."
You nodded. "What did you mean by liking me but not a 'crush' way?" You asked, that has been on your mind for some time.
Hope's eyes widened, she didn't want to say the truth but its a lie detector so she couldn't lie. "I-I meant it as, I see as a friend that I only like but not in that way." The ball lit up red. You looked at her. Does that mean she has a crush on you? Hope sighed. "I'm asking you a question, I'm not answering that." Hope looked at the ball as it lit up blue, guess you'll never know.
"How do you feel about me and Landon?" Hope asked.
You tilted your head confused. "Well, if you two are dating, I don't care, as long as he's happy, I'm happy." You answered truthfully, all though you didn't really feel that way. The ball lit up a purple colour.
"That means you're telling the truth but there is also a lie in it." Hope explained, she looked at your face, taking in every detail, but she realised she was starring to long.
"My turn. Do you have a crush on me?" You bluntly asked. You widened your eyes as you said that, your face becoming a light shade of red. Hope choked on the air that got stuck in her throat. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked that."
"No, no. It's okay." Hope responded. "I'll answer it." Hope breathed in and out before responding. "I'm not sure.." She responded, the ball turning a blue. Hope looked up at you. "Do you have a crush on me?" Hope said the same thing you said.
You looked down. "I'm not sure." You responded the same thing she said. The ball lighting up a blue colour. "I guess that means we only have one way to find out and that's by time." You said, not breaking eye contact.
Hope got up and grabbed the ball. "Come on, we are one the council since we are the only one of out kind." Hope responded, a smile on her face as she left. You fell back onto the bed as you let out a deep breathe you didn't know you were holding.
ââââ
"Sorry we're late." You and Hope walked through the doors.
Kaleb spoke up. "Hold up. Who voted for them? And there is two tribrids, we only need one."
"Doesn't matter. I'm here now." You responded dryly, taking a seat.
Hope quickly spoke to take away the tension. "We ran unopposed."
Emma sighed, speaking in witch, obviously a spell. The weight then lifted up and stayed in the air. She grabbed a stone. "We're here to discus if Landon should be allowed to stay at the school. My vote, on behalf of the lower school, is to err on the side of inclusion. We exist to help kids like him." She placed her stone on the side that allows him to stay. "Which is what I'm going to go do now. I have a search party out looking for Jed. As you've all seen, violence leads to more violence. If you'll excuse me."
With that, Emma walked off. "All right. Who wants to start?" Kaleb asks.
"Landon has to go." Hope immediately said. You looked at her with an expression she couldn't read. Obviously she didn't want to look at you but she felt you eyes on her. She then looked and Rafael who also looked at her.
"Never thought I'd be saying this, but... Hope's right. Humans refuse to make a place for us in their world. We start lettin' them in, it's only a matter of time before they take this place from us, too." Kaleb picked up a stone and put it on the side where Landon has to go. "Landon goes."
You let out a shaky breathe, you were worried for Landon on so many levels. "Landon's my brother." Rafael started. "He's the only reason I'm alive. He can't go back to human life. Knowing that magic and dragons exist." Rafael looked at everyone. "We took his whole crappy life from him. Be awful selfish of us not to give him one to replace it." Rafael grabbed a stone and placed it on the side where Landon gets to stay. "That's two-one."
"Doesn't matter how much we want him to stay. Look what one mad wolf did to him. Earlier, I asked him if he felt safe here. He said "yes'," Hope paused. "He was lying. This place is dangerous for him, and even he knows it."
Rafael cut in. "I will protect him."
"And where were you an hour ago?" Hope inquired. Rafael didn't say anything. "That's the point. If he stays, it's on all of us. It is all of our responsibility to protect him." Hope paused before continuing. "Can we honestly say we believe every one of us can handle that kind of responsibility?"Hope questioned
Everyone stayed quiet. Hope then placed a stone in the area where Landon leaves. "Looks like it's on you, Josie and Kate."
Josie went to grab a stone but Rafael stopped her. "Josie. Please." He pleaded.
"Since Landon walked through those doors, my sister, my father and I have almost died." She stopped and looked at everyone. "We don't.. really know what Landon is so we can't really say if we know if he's dangerous or not. Raf, this isn't about whos friends with who, or who you lie. This school is family. And I am not putting my family in danger again." She placed the stone on the side where Landon leaves
Everyone turns to you. "Kate, come on." Rafael looked at you.
"Look, Rafael," You started. "I love Landon, as much as you love him, but if they're saying this place is dangerous for him and that he's putting everyone else in danger, we can't let him stay." You paused, Rafael obviously getting angry. "He deserves to be happy and not in danger." You grabbed the stone and put it in the side where Landon leaves.
Rafael got up and kicked his chair back. "Raf." Josie said sternly. Kaleb got up and got in Rafael's face. "Raf, stop."
He chuckled. "You know what, I'm done with both of y'all." He looked at Kaleb and Josie. He then walked out of the room, leaving all of us here.
ââââ
You knocked on Landon's door. "Hey." He said as he turned around. He patted the spot next to him and you went and sat down.
"What are you doing?" You asked, leaning your head on his shoulder as he showed you the photo of him and Seylah.
"I'm thinking." He said. You wrapped an arm around his waist as he wraps one around your shoulders. A tear escapes your eye. "Hey, what's wrong?" He asked.
You wiped the tear. "I did something that I regret, and you're not gonna like it." More tears escape your eyes. He looked confused. "I voted you out, but I only did it to protect you but I'm only now realising that it's gonna suck, without you. And Rafael is pissed." You honestly said.
Landon lifted your head up. "It's okay, I don't blame you, and I'll tell him to not be mad at you, okay?" He wrapped both arms around you and you did the same to him, then you nodded.
"I'm gonna miss you.." Your voice cracked as you spoke into the crook of his neck.
You felt as Landon let out a shaky breathe. "I'll miss you, too.." He responded.
Landon then got out of the hug and started packing a small bag. You watched as a small sob escaped your lips. Once he was done, the both of you made your way to the front door of the school. Landon wrapped and arm around your shoulder as you wrapped on around his waist.
Another sob escaped your lips as you walked side by side to the front door. Once you got there, you wiped your tears but more only fell. You engulfed Landon in a hug, Hope was standing there, only watching the interaction but her heart broke as she saw how sad you were.
You both got out of the hug. "Bye, Landon." You choked out. Landon nodded and walked with Hope out of the school. You walking to Hope's room.
That was it, he was gone..
