“Umm…I..” I was lost for words! I couldn’t explain to them that I was talking to my wolf! “See what you’ve caused” I yelled internally to my wolf and she laughed.

This was all Kaiden’s fault, if he didn’t confess that I was his mate at the pack council, I wouldn’t have been so distracted.

‘What could I do now?’ I suddenly couldn’t form a coherent reply. Everyone looked expectantly at me and I couldn’t figure

out an excuse.

“Oh why is everyone so serious? She was probably just talking to herself”. Lyra chipped in. “Right Freda?”

“Of course, silly me I was so engrossed in the movie, I didn’t realize I had started talking to myself”.

I said as I laughed nervously.

“Oh, thank goodness, for a minute I thought you were talking to a hidden person we can’t see” Gina stated as she chuckled.

“You watch too many dramas” Elle said as she shook her head at Gina’s statement and they all laughed.

“Are you sure you’re okay Freda? That was quite a scare you gave us earlier” Cole stated worriedly.

“Yeah Cole, like I said I was too engrossed in the movie. I didn’t realize I had been speaking my thoughts out loud”. I stated as I

gave a nervous laugh and he nodded.

“Well I can’t blame Freda, this movie is c***p. How could the male lead do that to the sweet female lead? Some men are just a**les”. Gina hissed and I couldn’t help but nod in agreement.

“Yeah, men are not to be trusted,girls”. I said as I leaned back into the couch. “Now, now easy ladies, you’re all forgetting there’s a man in the room” Cole stated with a nervous laugh.

“Oh please, like you’ve never broken a woman’s heart before”. Elle muttered and Cole placed a hand over his chest as he feigned being hurt by Elle’s words.

“What? I have no idea of what you speak of”. He stated and we all scoffed. “You know, speaking of heartbreaks the man I liked once stood me up” Elle muttered sadly and we sighed

“That’s his loss, girl, don’t think too much about it. You’re too good for him”, I assured her and she nodded.

“Freda, what’s the worst thing a man has ever done to you?” She asked and everyone turned to look at me and I sighed. Cisco wasn’t here so I could at least say it out.

“Marrying my sister” I disclosed after a long time and everyone went silent. Cole was the first to recover.

“Wow, that’s messed up. I didn’t know you went through that Freda” he stated in a soft tone.

“Yes Freda” Elle and Gina said in unison as they walked to me and wrapped me in their arms.

“That’s the true definition of an a**hole”. Elle said and I nodded.

“Yeah, it’s okay I’m over it” I lied.

I wasn’t over it, I mean I thought was but after what happened at the council. I wasn’t so sure.

After a while of silence Elle spoke first. “Hey this movie is. boring, let’s watch something else”, she stated and we all nodded in agreement.

She changed the channel and we watched a comedy. It was funny and we laughed. Soon the tense atmosphere in the room. had changed to one filled with laughter as everyone returned back to their normal selves.

When I noticed that they were all engrossed in the movie I turned to face Lyra who sat beside me.

“Thanks for saving my a**earlier, I couldn’t have gotten out of the situation myself”. “How could I have explained to them that I was talking to a wolf!’

“No pressure girl, anytime, trouble in paradise with Gia?” She asked softly and I nodded. “She’s being a handful today”. I grumbled and she laughed. “I can relate”. I smiled, everything was finally coming together.

We turned back to the movie and we all laughed at the funny scenes. A while later Cole nudged me gently.

“Freda, can I have a minute?, I need to speak with you”, he -stated and I nodded. “Sure” I replied as he led the way outside.

I wondered what Cole wanted to speak to me so urgently about but I followed him nevertheless.

“Umm, Freda l’know you’re probably wondering why I asked you out here” he stated and I nodded,

“The thing is I was wondering if you could tell me more about. your best friend Lyra” he stated and I was surprised.

“Okay… Well as you know, Lyra is my childhood friend. She has. been there for me through the good times and bad times. I couldn’t have managed all these years without Lyra by my side”.

“She’s the best friend everyone wishes to have and I’m happy I got a best friend like her on my side.

But why are you suddenly asking about Lyra?” I asked and he sighed.

“Nothing really, it’s just since we arrived here she has just been staring at me weirdly like she hates me or something and it’s quite uncomfortable”.

“I know she’s your best friend and all but I don’t know if you can talk to her if there was something I did that she wasn’t cool with, so I can apologize” he said as he scratched his head

uncomfortably.

I wondered what issue Lyra had with Cole, he was a nice guy. I had to talk to her about it.

“So sorry Cole. It’s just that Lyra has been going through some stuff recently that has put her in a bad mood so she probably didn’t mean to react strangely to you”.

“I’ll talk to her”. I assured and he nodded. “Thanks, I feel much. better after sharing this with you” he said with a laugh and I smiled.
