I smiled for the umpteenth time as I thought of Freda’s words. ‘He’s just a friend’. I laughed as I swirled in my chair. Fredal hadn’t hooked up with anyone since she rejected me.

But the fact that she wasn’t interested in the man didn’t mean he wasn’t interested in her. I saw the way he looked at her. That wasn’t the way a friend looked at another friend. I clenched my jaw as my mood immediately soured.

Coming to a decision, I called one of my guards over. “Keep a close eye on Freda and her…new friend. I want you to report every single thing to me, and make sure you do it discreetly. They mustn’t be aware. Understood?”

“Yes, Alpha” he stated and bowed and left. It was clear that new friend of hers couldn’t be trusted. I would never be at ease with the thought that he stayed in the same place as Freda.

I pushed the unpleasant thoughts behind me as I was beginning to seeth in anger and…..jealousy. I remembered the way Freda smiled brightly at him. She never smiled that way when she was with me. But then I’d never really given her a reason to smile.

I ignored my thoughts as I tried to focus on work, but I couldn’t… concentrate. I finally gave up on working and I checked the time. Working hours were over. I sighed and grabbed my bag and headed home to face the biggest mistake of my life.
