Mates 58
Rejected Mate's Redemption (Freda and James)
Chapter 58
FREDA WHITLOCK
I cried miserably as I looked at my Ciscoâs pitiful condition. He had bruises on his cheeks and his skin was so pale. I couldnât help but shed more tears as I watched my dear son lying unconscious without being able to do anything to help.
my
My wolf, Gia tried to comfort me but I would hear nothing of it as I did the only thing I could do right now. I had never see son in such a state since I gave birth to him. It was heartbreaking!
Miss Campbell who had been watching me cry for the past thirty minutes came to my side as she placed an assuring palm on my shoulder. âMrs Whitlock, you shouldnât hurt yourself by crying too much. You need to be strong for yourself and your son. He needs you more than ever right nowâ.
I nodded as I tried to wipe my eyes with the back of my hands but more tears just spilled out. âIâm tryingâ, I stated in a choked voice. âI just havenât seen my son in such a helpless stateâ. I said miserably.
Miss Campbell just stared at me with eyes full of pity as she could no longer think of words to comfort me. It was in this state that Kaiden walked into the room. He must have failed in reasoning things out as I glanced at him, his expression filled with confusion and frustration.
His expression immediately changed to one of concern and

worry when he sighted me. âFredaâ he called in a worried voice as he walked over to me and put a hand on my shoulder.
Had it been any other day, I would have shrugged him off. But today, I was tired of fighting things alone, I needed comfort, who else could comfort me better asides from Ciscoâs father? How
ironic!
âWhy are you crying?â, he asked as he crouched down to meet my eye level. âI-Iâm scaredâ I hiccuped, my voice hoarse from crying. âWhat if Cisco doesnât wake up? Heâs my life Kaiden, I canât live without himâ. I choked out as more tears spilled out.
âFredaâ he stated firmly. âLook at meâ but I was too devastated to do so. âFredaâ he called once again more softly this time as he took my hands in his, squeezing softly. âLook at meâ he said softly and I slowly raised my eyes to meet his.
And I was surprised by what I saw. He was hurting too. He was the father of the two kids. It hurt him to see his kids this way and not be able to help them. But he was holding out strong for all of us and I needed to be strong too.
I nodded my head at the hidden meaning of his soft gaze as we communicated with only our eyes.
It was just two of us in our little world, oblivious to the rest of our surroundings. âCisco will be fineâ
he muttered softly. I nodded.
âHe will be fineâ I repeated and instantly felt relieved. My wolf purred with contentment at the bond between I and my mate Kaiden and I had to agree, maybe what I needed was just the comfort of my mate. My ex mate and Ciscoâs father.
He released my hand and my heart ached at the loss of touch. âNo!â Now was not the time. I gave him a small smile to show my

appreciation and he nodded.
I turned to gaze back at Cisco. Just then Lyra came in. âWhat happened?â, she asked worriedly as she took in the scene. before her. âI came here as soon as I got your distressing phone call but I was held up in trafficâ. She quickly gave me a tight hug and I leaned into her touch sighing softly.
She glanced at Kaiden only just noticing his presence in the room and she glared at him before turning her attention back to me. âTell me what happened exactly, why is Cisco injured like this and why hasnât he regained consciousness?â. Tears threatened to fall from my eyes but I willed it back. I took deep breath as I began to explain to her.
I told her about the phone call I received from Ciscoâs teacher, telling me Cisco was in an accident and how I came rushing here only to see Harper was injured too and how Safiya started blaming Cisco that he was responsible for Harperâs accident, that he pushed her off the stairs and the doctors report on the two kids and the argument between Safiya and I and Kaiden trying to calm us down.
As I narrated on, her scowl deepened and when I finished she was shaking with anger. âHarper is clearly at fault here, she is the the older one here. She should have been more responsible and it only makes sense that she was the one who pushed Ciscoâ. She stated as her eyebrows knitted together in fury and
concern.
âNo,no Lyra letâs not assume. I suggest we wait for the kids to wake up and give us their side of the story. We should hope for a quick recovery for themâ. I finished.
Lyra paid deaf ears to me as she turned to face Kaiden. âAnd

you, what were you doing when your wife was busy accusing Freda and her son of attempted murder?â.
âLyraâ¦â I tried to explain to her but she cut me off. âNo, Fredal someone needs to speak some sense into this buffalo, he needs to have some control over his wife. Heâs an alpha for crying out loudâ.
Kaiden who couldnât take anymore of Lyraâs insults strode over to Lyra as he straightened himself to his full height towering over her but Lyra glared on not intimidated in the slightest.
âInsult me again and Iâllâ¦.â. âYouâll do what?â, Lyra yelled cutting him off. âItâs obvious to everyone here that you have no control over your wife. So what have I said thatâs so wrong?. If you had a little more control over her, maybe none of this would have happened. This is clearly your faultâ. she stated in a raised voice.
âLyraâ I called trying to butt in but a growl from Kaiden silenced me. âYouâre lucky youâre Fredaâs friend and Iâll take it that youâre being concerned for her, because no one insults an alpha and gets away with itâ. He warned and stormed off carrying his menacing aura with him.
What had Lyra done?!
