Mates 27
Rejected Mate's Redemption (Freda and James)
Chapter 27
KAIDEN STIRLING
âThatâs my daddyâ Harperâs voice was filled with excitement as she spoke with Francisco who had done nothing but watch her speak to her heartâs content. She had been talking about the food, her dolls, and even her school but he said nothing to her.
I wondered if the boy spoke or didnât want to interact because we were strangers. He looked so innocent but I believe he was far from that. No matter who he belonged to, Freda was his mother and mightâve taught him a few tricks.
That was chaste but I really wanted to know whose son he was. Was he mine? He had to be mine, I had been with Freda for a long time before she left. She couldnât have moved on from me that easily after the rejection. Right?
I tried to convince myself but what if she did? What if she found another mate?
Kai snarled lowly at the thought. We were on the same page for once in a while, we both didnât want the boy to belong to someone else. His mother was my mate. Mine!
âHey little fellaâ I cooed as I plopped on the space beside him. Harper, with a giggle shuffled to sit in my laps. I placed a kiss on her forehead before staring at the boy again. He was watching us keenly as though he had something on his mind
âDaddy, heâs not saying anythingâ Harper complained looking

back at me with glistening doe eyes. She was sad her assumed new buddy wasnât speaking to her.
Smiling at her, I looked at the boy âKiddo. My name is Kaidenâ
Maybe an introduction would do us justice, I had thought. However, the boy didnât look fazed, his lips twitched but he said. nothing.
âAre you waiting for your mom?â He nodded. That was one of the dumbest questions I had ever asked. Who else was he waiting for other than Freda?
âBut he responded, ask himâ Kai snapped impatiently, my curiosity piqued to the highest level. I would only ask who his dad was, nothing more.
What if he wasnât mine?
âThen weâll deal with it, knowing itâs all your faultâ Kai scoffed, I could feel him roll his eyes as well.
I pressed my jaws together, trying to swallow the bitter pill of his words.
âSheâll be here soonâ I assured with a smile and he nodded
again mirroring my expression. His smile reminded me of Fredaâs and subconsciously mine grew larger. She had an effect on me even when she wasnât close.
Seeing that Francisco was easing to our little conversation, I decided to ask what had been on my mind since I saw him but before I could, Lyraâs sharp voice calling out to him cut across the room and the three of us looked up at her.

âAunt!â He beamed and I blinked staring in disbelief. He had such a healthy loud voice yet chose to remain mute around me. This kid was too smart for his own good.
Lyra ran to him, picking him up in her arms and cradling him protectively like I was a threat to him, like some evil being. I was only going to ask the boy some questions.
here was a
bang in my brain and I almost face palmed. The boy in question was a toddler and it was dumb to even think of asking him such a question which would be considered sensitive. I had lost my mind completely and it was my fault.
Mine and Lyraâs our eyes met, she glared daggers at me. That was disrespectful but my ego had gotten used to it as I deserved it but I always wondered why Lyra detested me so much. She never said anything to me but it was obvious she hated me.
As she made to leave, i stopped her and asked, âWhy do you hate me so much Lyra?â
I had to know what more offences I had committed and to whom so as to atone accordingly. It wasnât right having this conversation here but the kids had buddies themselves already. Harper with my phone and Francisco with Lyraâs locks.
Lyra turned to me with anger in her eyes. âWhy wonât I hate you Kaiden. You pulled the only family I have ever known apart and you think you deserve my respect?â
I had known she harboured these feelings because of this but hearing her say it hit me right in the guts as though I had no
idea.

âAnd for what reason? Your selfishness, you cheat!â
Kai grumbled out of restlessness and his actions may have tried to surface because I saw her eyes flash with horror and she quickly hung her head low.
Regaining control of myself, I sighed as I stared at her, I didnât mean to scare her but her words hurt my ego as an alpha and Kaiâs as the head of the pack.
âLyraâ¦â
âIâm sorry if my words hurt your feeling Kaiden but I donât think Iâm done yet so bear with meâ She looked away from me, still frowning as she rubbed Franciscoâs back, âSheâs back after so long so I plead of you to stay away from her⦠And her sonâ
The last bit of her statement was spoken with emphasis that kept me outside the bar. She was dead serious and I could feel it. Kai, however wasnât liking being told what to do so he wouldnât stop snarling.
As she turned to leave, she stopped when she came face to face with Safiya who appeared to be in a foul mood. I rolled my eyes, what was her problem this time?
âLetâs go!â Ignoring Lyraâs cold stare, Safiya snapped, staring at
me
âWhat?â I asked. Why were we leaving early. We never left early so why did we have to do that today? I was getting annoyed already.
âKaiden, why do you look reluctant to leave. Dinner is over and weâre leaving now!â Safiya persisted, her snappy voice

prompting Harper to jump off the couch and instinctively at me. I caught her as she expected. I would never let my daughter fall, wouldnât say the same for her mother.
Her mood swings annoyed the c**p out of me. Without a word to her, I turned to leave but not after casting Lyra a glance. Safiya scoffed and followed by my side.
âI think Georgina would be lonely without you, please take her alongâ Lyra chimed and walked away leaving Safiya in fumes.
I walked out with my daughter in my arms, Safiya could come when she wanted, I wouldnât wait for her.
