Mates 106
Rejected Mate's Redemption (Freda and James)
Chapter 106
FREIDA WHITLOCK
âThank you, Cole,â I managed to say as I felt chills run down my spine. It wasnât the good chills. Had I made a mistake?
I gazed at Cole as we headed to the kitchen so he would make a refill. He was in good spirits and I could tell it was because of what I had told him. I couldnât help but wonder how Kaiden would have felt thatâs if he had seen the letter.
âI should be thankful to you for letting me do this, Freda. Iâm glad you trust me this muchâ He looked at me and then continued what he was doing
âThe award party is in a few days so we should go over some things,â I said and he looked away from the jug he was filling, paying attention to me. âItâs nothing serious, I just hope you follow my lead. There should be no room for awkward
interactions that would raise suspicions. The teachers of that school are quite smartâ
He nodded
âIt should be natural for Cisco. He shouldnât be able to see through our actâ I added, inwardly laughing at myself. This was such a lowly thing to do yet I had to because my mate, Ciscoâs father had his family to worry about and I doubted he could make it.
âI understand your point,â Cole said and I heaved.

âThanks and Iâm sorry I am acting paranoidâ I sighed, running a hand through my hair. This was a difficult choice to make and the fact that I was feeling bad about it made it ten times worse so much so that I wished there was nothing like such a
ceremony in existence. Argh!
As though he could sense my turmoil, Cole rounded the counter and stood beside me. He held my hand and squeezed it softly
âYou donât have to be sorry Freeds, I know youâre worried about Cisco, and I truly get your point. Iâll do all I can to make the day worth it for you and Cisco, I promiseâ He said, his voice soft, filled with concern. The proximity made my stomach flutter. He is such a charm.
Gia snarled in my head and I subconsciously took my hand out of his.
âI called him. Um, Kaiden,â I said, awkwardly and his brows shot.
up
âWhat did he say?â
âHe hasnât responded yetâ Cole gave me a confused look, âHe missed the callâ I explained quickly to rid him of any skepticism.
âI canât believe that man,â He said through gritted teeth, whilst shaking his head. As I watched him, I couldnât help but think how similar his actions were to Lyraâs.
My eyes narrowed on him and I wondered if Lyra was serious about being into him. It could be a crush. Cole is a handsome and very likable person so itâs not surprising if she feels that
way.

I shook my head to get rid of the thought of them together. There was something else weighing on my mind. Kaiden.
How would he react if he saw Cole there in his place?
What I did know was how mad he would be about it. Very. But then what would he do to Cole who would be hovering around his pup?
âNow, you feel he will attend the partyâ Giaâs mocking voice rang through my head and I huffed looking at Cole who was going on about how less of a man Kaiden was.
I cut him off. âBut that is not the problem though. Iâm worried about what might happen if he does attend the functionâ
âIf he hasnât returned your calls then I donât think heâd have any idea about it,â Cole shrugged.
âNo, he will,â I said quickly and even if he had questions as to how I was sure, he didnât inquire, he only nodded thoughtfully and I was grateful for that.
âEven if he comes around, everything will be fine, Freda. You need to stop worrying so much. We ought to be in our very best mood for Ciscoâs sake, weâll worry about other things when the time comesâ He said and it sounded like Lyra speaking through
him.
I mentally face-palmed.
âI trust you Cole but I know Kaiden as well. Itâs going to be quite tense and disturbingâ I said with my eyes pleading silently that he wouldnât end up confronting Kaiden if anything of such happened.
Chapter 106
Cole leaned away from the counter, âItâs going to be about Francisco, no matter who else is present, I promise. You just stop worrying and get some restâ He said with a smile and I mirrored the look
âThanks for everything Cole, I owe youâ
âYou donât, Freda. Iâd do anything for you and Cisco no matter what it takes, okay?â He said and a heat rose to my cheeks.
âNow, youâre being cheesy,â I said with a chuckle, shaking my head.
âIâm cheesy all the time, you have no ideaâ He bragged as he picked up the filled jug. We laughed, making our way to our respective rooms.
âGoodnight,â He said to me when we got to his door and I smiled, âGoodnightâ
I headed to my room afterward, glad that he and I were on the same page about the event and it being about Cisco. I knew Cole would do his best to make it worth it but I couldnât stop myself from thinking about Kaidenâs reaction.
Things mightâve been settled here but with him, it could go. South, and being the one between both men wasnât on my wishlist.
âOh really, but you just asked the human to be your dateâ Giaâs malicious voice sounded. She was still sulking and I knew her dislike for Cole had tripled.
群
âI didnât ask him to be my date. Heâs doing this for Cisco,â I argued.
Chapter 106
âI know youâre sensible enough to know that thatâs the half-truth. He likes you and our mate knows.
If our mate sees him with. you, itâs going be a terrible day for himâ Gia explained amid her excited twirls in my head.
âCan you just stop, youâre stressing me outâ I snapped and she laughed
âIâm not. You shouldâve just listened to me but no, so deal with itâ
âIâm supposed to be sleeping, not letting you instill fear in meâ I shot back and cut off our link.
So much for a wolf!
I plopped on the bed wearily, hating the fact that her words did
make sense. I had to prepare for the worst because, with Kaidenâs untamed temper, anything could happen.
I laid down in the bed, unable to sleep, and ended up face up staring at the ceiling,
âMoon goddess, why do you do this to me all the time?â
