“So, you are worried about him. Cole?” A beat passed and this is all Lyra could ask. Really?

“Why wouldn’t I be? He’s a nice guy and all he would do is stand in but I can’t help but feel like something bad will happen if-”

“That day is not even here yet you feel this way. What if your hunch turns out wrong and Cisco has no one for him, what will happen then?” She asked cutting me off, “Freda, you know how excited Cisco is about this school party. He has been speaking about it nonstop, I bet he is dreaming about it right now so why do you want to take chances with such hopes, huh?”

“I know but I’m stuck, why do I do Lyra?”

“Let Cole come with you” She shrugged as though doing that was the easiest thing in the world. It would have been if the circumstances were different but things were deeper than they appeared.

“He just needs to be there to grant Cisco the moment and one of the best memories of his life”

“And after that?”

What will happen when Cole leaves the pack and returns to the States and Cisco asks me about his father?

I could tell him, Kaiden is his real father but how would he feel about it then?

This was a gamble involving fire and I wasn’t ready to play with

it.

There was a silence that lasted well over a minute.

“We’ll figure that out when the time comes” Lyra finally spoke and the uncertainty in her voice made me tremble on the inside. I didn’t have to do this.

“No Lyra, I don’t think we’ll figure anything out then not at the cost of Cisco getting hurt. It’s like giving him a lollipop and s**g it away” I reasoned “Okay, do whatever you deem right,” She said dismissively, shaking her head, seemingly tired of my way of thinking.

I mean, I was tired of my thoughts as well but I couldn’t help it. The feeling of dread kept tailing me.

“Hey, you can’t just let me sort this out on my own” I complained pulling a sad face and she rolled her eyes in exasperation.

“We did send Kaiden a letter, didn’t we?” She asked and I nodded, wondering how we went from Cole to a letter.

“Where is the response? Has he called back?” Okay, we were still bashing Kaiden.

“No, he hasn’t” My heart dropped. Had he seen the letter and chosen not to respond or was he too busy to go through it?

A brief frown crossed my face, how busy was he that he couldn’t go through a letter from his mate?

Didn’t-he say he still felt the bond? Then should be first in his heart, right? And this involved his son as well…

Did he choose to ignore me?

Numerous thoughts ran through my mind and all left strained. feelings in my chest.

I wanted to deny that he’d do such to me but he had done so before. Within a few seconds, thinking about his actions made. me disoriented, stressed, and annoyed.

“I thought he was trying but it’s obvious he’s not trying hard enough to be on good terms with you”

She gritted and seemed to be regretting complimenting his efforts earlier, “Are we really going to rely on such a man?”

“Lyra, I don’t know,”

“Then you better gear up to explain to Cisco if you choose to be so indecisive” She snapped and let out a sigh

“And Cole? What happens if Kaiden shows up?” I winced at my words.

“Then it’ll be a win for Cisco. I seriously don’t care about anyone else other than my cute little prince right now, not even you” She said and I gasped, holding my chest as I feigned being hurt.

How dare she not care about me?

She smirked at me as she nodded and I smacked her lightly on the arm causing her to giggle. The sound was refreshing to hear, my lips stretched to a smile as I watched her, completely fascinated.

Without Lyra, I knew I would be toast. Thank the moon goddess

“So, I’m saying yes to Cole’s offer?” I asked when her giggles died down to be sure this was what she meant after our discussion.

She nodded with a reassuring smile and pulled me in for an embrace.

We broke the hug shortly and I stood up, ready to leave as it was late and we both needed some rest. “This is a surprise” I exclaimed wrapping my hands around myself as I missed the feeling of comfort I got from hers.

She raised a brow, “What?”

“I didn’t think you’d fancy the idea of Cole being there since you don’t seem to like him” I wiggled my brows as she stood up. She smirked and held my arm leading me to the door

“Oh, I like him more than you think, Freeds”

“What? Really?” I gasped, staring at her with wide eyes.

“Yes, goodnight,” She said and that’s when I realized, she had pushed me out of her room.

“Wait-“The door was shut to my face before I could say anymore. I stood there contemplating whether to knock till she opened up but I knew better so I left wondering what she meant by she liked Cole.

Did she have a crush on him?

If she did, she wouldn’t be indifferent to him, right?

‘Or maybe she was just pulling my legs’ I thought as I recalled that she promised to wait for her mate. She couldn’t possibly have a crush on Cole.

I shook my head, chuckling silently as I padded across the room. The door to Cole’s room opened as I passed by prompting me to stop and turn.

He was holding an empty jug. He was going to refill it, I guess.

I felt a weight resting on my shoulders as me and Lyra’s discussion flashed through my mind. I had decided to accept his offer so why wait for tomorrow when I could get over some things at the moment?

“Freda, why are you still up?” He asked, concerned

“It’s nothing Cole, but I’ve been thinking” I shook my head and he stared intently at me.

“Okay,” He said and I nodded. He stepped out of his room fully.

I heaved a sigh, finding it difficult to speak up. Was I doing the right thing?

“The award party means a lot to Cisco and I want him to be happy,” I stated, “Are you sure you’re okay with being his representative for a day?”

I couldn’t get myself to say the word father. Cole wasn’t his father, Kaiden was but he had proven to be unreliable otherwise I wouldn’t be here, asking this of Cole.
