Chapter 15

Kai's POV

My mouth hangs open in shock. Everyone knows that hunters and rogues attacked the pack back when Lukas' parents were Alpha.

They are back and are targeting our members. We have to stop them no matter what.

Lukas and I burst out of our seats and rush to the truck. I toss Lukas the keys, knowing he would want to get there fast and would want to drive.

I hop in the car, slamming the door fast so we can hurry. Lukas pulls away from the ice cream parlor and rapidly drives home.

I guess the packhouse is home now.

The ride is silent, no one saying a word. I'm too anxious to. My leg is bouncing up and down, my heart racing. I can't believe the pack is in danger.

Lukas speeds the whole way, not getting in trouble because he is the Alpha.

We arrive at the packhouse, and Lukas turns to me with a serious face. "Go to the safe room and don't come out. I will be right back when these lowlifes are handled."

I go to protest, but Lukas sends me a death glare, leaving no arguments. I run to the safe room, seeing everyone is herding themselves there. I see women who aren't warriors, and children. There are a few men, who must have been unable to fight.

I wish I could fight to protect the pack. Sure I'm the 'Luna' or whatever, but I want to do my duty and fight.

Considering sneaking out, I quickly trash that idea, knowing it would be stupid.

I guess I will just have to wait.

Lukas' POV

I send Kai off to the safe room and shift instantly into my black and gray wolf. I bound off into the forest, to our pack borders where the rogues and hunters are attacking.

When I arrive, I see everything at a standstill. Shifting back, casually in my naked form, I walk to the front of the small crowd.

I see two people, one naked male, who looks about my age, and a female hunter. They both scowl when they see me, them standing tall and proud.

"Hello, Alpha," the rogue male spits out. He emphasizes the word 'Alpha,' saying it with disgust.

I smirk at his angry face, and ask, "And to what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?" I say this with fake politeness, knowing that we haven't lost any pack members. I would have felt their bond break.

The hunter girl speaks up, "We came to warn you. The war that happened under the last alpha was unjustly lost. We will win this one, and finally, wipe out your pack."

I roll my eyes, asking, "Why start another war? We were doing fine until you came along?"

The rogue smirks, informing, "We heard you found your mate. You have more to lose. We will win by destroying you and your mate."

Anger fires up in me, infuriated that they are targeting Kai. He's done nothing wrong.

"You won't touch a hair on his head. If you know what's good for you, you would turn around and leave right now," I growl, getting ready to shift and attack.

"We were planning on leaving, but watch your back," the hunter says as they turn and walk away.

No one will touch Kai. I'll make sure of it.
