Chapter 14
A LOVE SONG UNSUNG
Vikram had been searching for Lakshmi when he finally found her in the kitchen, busy cutting vegetables. She was preparing his dinner according to his diet plan. He silently crept up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist in a tight hug. This time, Lakshmi immediately knew it was Vikram and sighed. Vikram nuzzled his face into her neck, inhaling her scent. "You smell amazing," he murmured in a husky tone.
Lakshmi didn't respond and, despite her best efforts, gently tried to wiggle free from his embrace. But Vikram held her firm, not letting go. Sensing her struggle, he teased, "Laki, stop it. There's no one else here, and besides, you're my wife now. I have every right to touch you."
Lakshmi paused, her attempt to break free halting, and continued her work. Vikram leaned in again, a playful glint in his eyes. "What are you cooking?"
"I'm making this," she said, pointing to the dish on his diet chart.
Vikram let out a soft sigh. "Hmm, it's so boring. I don't want to eat diet food today. How about biryani?"
"Why? You eat this food every day," she asked, glancing at him with raised eyebrows.
"Today is different," Vikram said with excitement. "It's my first day as your husband, and I have good news for us to celebrate." his eyes shining.
Lakshmi stopped what she was doing and turned toward him, her curiosity piqued.
"The loan was approved," Vikram continued. "I'm all set to start the business. We'll soon have our own home, and in that house, you won't be able to stay away from me." He gave her a mischievous smile.
Lakshmi's eyes softened as she smiled. "Really?"
"Yes," Vikram replied, his voice filled with sincerity. "You're my Laki, right? That's why good things are starting to happen in our life."
Touched by his words, Lakshmi embraced him, resting her head against his chest. They stayed like that for a few moments, until she gently pulled away, a hint of a smile on her lips.
"You rest now. I'll make vegetable biryani for you," she said, turning back to the stove.
But Vikram wasn't ready to let go. He wrapped his arms around her from behind once more, resting his chin on her shoulder. "Alright... bring it to the bedroom once it's done, and we'll eat together," he said softly, planting a kiss on her cheek before stepping back.
Lakshmi stood frozen, her face turning crimson. This was their first kiss, though he had kissed her forehead before, this one felt different. It sent a fluttering sensation in her stomach, and she couldn't help but feel shy as she returned to her cooking, her cheeks flushed with warmth.
Meanwhile, Vikram stood outside the kitchen, his mind consumed by the kiss. The feeling of her soft skin on his lips sent sparks through him, and he kept replaying the moment over and over in his mind. He absentmindedly touched his lips, a smile playing on his face.
A few moments later, he called Atharv to share the good news about the loan approval. Atharv was thrilled that they could finally move forward with their business. The two talked for a while, and then Atharv, sensing the change in Vikram's tone, teased him about his wedding night. Before hanging up, Atharv reminded Vikram to take good care of Lakshmi and to be gentle with her, given the hardships she'd been through. Vikram nodded, his smile fading as he reflected on his friend's words.
Just as he hung up, there was a knock at his door. He knew it was Lakshmi, bringing the food. With a sense of anticipation, he hurried to open the door.
His eyes brightened when he saw her standing in the doorway, holding a tray of food in her hands. Her face was still flushed from the earlier moment, and her heart was still racing from the kiss on her cheek. Vikram quickly took the tray from her hands and placed it on the table, then gently pulled her into the room, locking the door behind her.
Without a word, he held her hand and guided her to sit on the couch in his room. Lakshmi hesitated, unsure of how to respond, but after a moment, she slowly walked over and sat down. Her movements were delicate, almost tentative, as if she were uncertain whether she should meet his gaze or not.
Vikram sat beside her, a quiet intensity in his eyes. He began to serve the food onto a plate, but before he could continue, Lakshmi gently stopped him by holding his hand. "Wait... I'll do it," she said softly.
He looked at her for a moment, then replied firmly, "Lakshmi, let me."
She didn't say anything, but simply sat there in silence, her fingers nervously twisting in her lap. Vikram, sensing her discomfort, took the food in his hands and held it out toward her. "Please," he said quietly, his voice laced with something softer, almost pleading.
Lakshmi hesitated, her breath catching in her throat. With a deep breath, she slowly leaned forward, taking the bite from his hand. The air between them seemed to thicken with an unspoken tension, and they ate the rest of the meal in silence.
When dinner was over, Lakshmi stood up, gathering the dishes to take them away, but before she could leave, Vikram reached out, gently grasping her hand. "Lakshmi, stay here tonight," he said softly.
Lakshmi froze, her heart racing at his words. She quickly shook her head, her voice trembling slightly. "No... I won't. It's wrong."
Vikram's expression softened, his eyes darkening with a mix of longing and vulnerability. "Please, Lakshmi," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "Don't I deserve to spend the first night of our marriage with my wife? Just tonight. Please."
Lakshmi felt a pang in her chest at the rawness of his plea. She stood there, her mind a whirlwind of emotions, unsure of what to say. She fidgeted nervously, her fingers twisting the fabric of her dress.
He noticed her hesitation, and his voice softened further, almost pleading. "Lakshmi, just tonight... please."
Her heart ached at the sight of him, so vulnerable, so desperate. She had never seen him like this beforeâusually so confident, so sure. But now, in this quiet, intimate moment, he seemed so human, so fragile.
Lakshmi couldn't find the words to explain her own turmoil. She had always been careful, reserved, and this was all happening so quickly. But she could feel her resolve beginning to crack, her heart slowly softening toward him.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, she nodded her head, though her voice barely escaped her lips. "Okay"
Vikram's eyes softened with gratitude, and he gently pulled her back toward him.
Lakshmi's nerves were on edge as Vikram's eyes locked onto hers. They had spent time alone before, but now that she was his wife, everything felt different. The air was charged with an unspoken tension, and Lakshmi's heart skipped a beat as Vikram slowly moved closer.
He gently cupped her face in his hands, his thumbs tracing the contours of her cheeks. Lakshmi's pulse quickened as Vikram's eyes burned with desire. He leaned in, his lips brushing against hers in a soft, gentle kiss.
The kiss was filled with tenderness, understanding, and the promise of something beautiful to come. Lakshmi was taken aback, her body frozen in surprise. But as the kiss deepened, she felt her resistance melting away.
Her lips began to respond, and Vikram's kiss grew more passionate. Lakshmi's heart soared as she felt herself getting lost in the moment. Time stood still, and all that mattered was the gentle pressure of Vikram's lips.
As they broke apart for air, Vikram's eyes never left Lakshmi's face. "Come, let's go to bed," he whispered, his voice husky with desire. He took her hand, guiding her to the bed.
Lakshmi's nerves returned as Vikram led her to the bed. She felt a flutter in her chest as he switched off the light and lay down beside her. The darkness seemed to heighten her senses, and she felt Vikram's warmth radiating towards her.
As Vikram pulled her close, Lakshmi's hands began to tremble. Vikram's lips found her cheek, and he trailed gentle kisses down to her neck. Lakshmi's breath caught in her throat as Vikram's touch sent shivers down her spine.
She felt her body responding to his touch, her heart pounding in her chest. Vikram's desire was palpable, and Lakshmi knew that she couldn't deny him anymore. As his lips continued to explore her skin, Lakshmi felt herself melting into his embrace.
As Vikram's lips trailed down her neck, Lakshmi's hands fluttered up to his chest, her fingers splayed across his skin. "stop," she whispered, her voice trembling.
Vikram's lips paused, his breath warm against her skin. "What's wrong, Lakshmi?" he asked, his voice low and husky.
Lakshmi's eyes fluttered open, her gaze meeting Vikram's in the dim light. "Can't we wait?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Vikram's expression softened, his eyes filled with understanding. "Lakshmi, we're husband and wife," he said, his voice gentle. "One day is another. We have to do this eventually. Why torment ourselves by controlling our desires?"
Lakshmi's cheeks flushed, her heart racing at Vikram's words. She knew he was right, but she couldn't shake off the feeling of uncertainty.
Vikram's hands cradled her face, his thumbs tracing the contours of her cheeks. "Lakshmi, do you trust me?" he asked, his eyes burning with intensity.
Lakshmi's gaze faltered, her heart skipping a beat. She knew she did trust Vikram, but this was different. This was about surrendering herself to him completely.
Vikram's voice dropped to a whisper. "Do you love me, Lakshmi?"
Lakshmi's eyes met Vikram's, her heart pounding in her chest. She knew she did love him, but she was scared of what this meant.
Vikram's lips brushed against hers, his breath warm against her skin. "Then trust me, Lakshmi," he whispered. "Trust me to take care of you, to love you, to cherish you."
As Lakshmi's lips parted, Vikram's kiss deepened, and he felt her body relax into his. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close as their hearts beat as one.
In that moment, Vikram felt a sense of completeness wash over him. He knew that Lakshmi was his, not just on paper, but emotionally and physically as well.
As they became one, Vikram felt a surge of happiness and possessiveness. He knew that he would do anything to protect and cherish Lakshmi.
He promised himself that he would take care of her, provide for her, and love her with every fiber of his being. He vowed to place the world at her feet, to make her happy, and to be her rock in every sense of the word.
As they lay together, entwined in each other's arms, Vikram felt a deep sense of connection and belonging. He knew that he had found his soulmate in Lakshmi, and he was determined to make their love last a lifetime.
With Lakshmi by his side, Vikram felt invincible. He knew that they could face any challenge, overcome any obstacle, and build a life together that was filled with love and happiness.
