Chapter Four

Forever Ours

Miles' POV

It's all my fault and we all know it. Her friends, Adrian, Funke, James and other people I couldn't really remember their names didn't say a word to me.

As Victoria walked out of the house in a rush, Adrian beckoned for me follow him into the kitchen, I did.

"How do you feel about Victoria?" He asked first.

I searched for words in my head to say to him. The only word that best describes this longing for her, this aching for her is love and I guess it took me her getting pregnant, for me to realize it.

I've once again fallen in love with someone who will never love me. I never thought I was going to tell her best friend first.

I cleared my throat, "I love her."

His eyes widened, "you love her?"

I nodded and spoke this time with more certainty, "I love her."

"You do know that she's never going to love you back right?" He leaned away from the counter.

"I know," I maintained eye contact with him.

"Then why?" I knew what he was referring to.

"First you need to know that I didn't force anything on her, she agreed to it of her own free will and very much sober, I made sure of that." I sighed. "Why? Because screw me for wanting someone so badly."

He sighed and ran a hand through his brown hair and locked eyes with me. "She's my best friend and you know that I would always look out for her."

He moved from the other side of the counter he was standing at and slowly made his way over to my side. He stood in front of me and though I shouldn't have felt intimidated, I did. "If this baby is yours, you're going to take responsibility and even if it's not yours and Andrew happens to bail on her which I know he might, you're also going to take responsibility because all this wouldn't happen if you didn't want her so badly."

You don't have to tell me.

I didn't look away and I nodded, "definitely."

Victoria's POV

Funke appeared some minutes later and after she gave me the proper first aid she dragged me out of Andrew's house and even threatened me when I refused to leave.

It was dark by the time I got home and my flight was in four hours. I still had to tell my parents that I was pregnant and I may just leave the part where Andrew left me out of the conversation.

Miles was still at my house when I got there and he waited until I entered my room before he came.

I didn't have the strength to talk to him as I held my phone in my hand and kept on dialing Andrew's number. He wasn't picking up and I was having a break down.

"Victoria," he said and sat on the bed beside me, keeping a reasonable distance between us.

"I'm probably the last person you want to talk to right now but I have to say this," I still didn't talk as I pressed the phone to my ear once again.

He's right, he's the last person I want to talk to right now because it's partially his fault that Andrew left me and who better than to take the aggression on but him. Don't get me wrong I hate myself right now but it's nice to have someone else to blame and hate.

"I know Andrew just left you but you need to know that I wouldn't leave you, no matter what. Even if the baby isn't mine, I would still be here." It looked like he wanted to say something else but he kept shut and without another word walked out of the room.

As he left I threw my phone against the wall, watching it shatter into pieces and continued crying. I rolled to the floor, pulling my knees up to my chest and burying my head between my legs.

He's gone, all because I couldn't keep my legs closed.

I hate my life!

An hour after Funke forced me to freshen up and change and she drove me to my parents house to break the news to them.

I was a nervous wreck, playing with my hands the whole ride there. As I walked through the front door Ana was by my side instantly.

Obviously Funke had told her the news earlier and even though she tried so much to talk to me over the phone, I declined. She had to take Jess to the hospital so she couldn't leave and come to meet me

"How are you?" She looked at me with an unsure look.

"Fine," I said blankly.

She sighed heavily and stopped me from walking, gripping my shoulders tightly, "you'll be fine alright? I'm here."

I nodded and avoided her eyes, "I know."

"Damilola?" Mum walked into the living room and her brows only furrowed more when she saw the way Ana was holding me.

Ana slowly let go of me and stepped to the side.

"Hey mum," I said trying to keep a straight face.

"Is everything alright?" She made her way to my side, her eyes scanning my face thoroughly.

"Where's dad? I need to speak to both of you," I avoided her question.

She nodded, "he's in his office. Come on." She held my arm as we both walked to dad's office leaving Ana and Funke in the living room.

Without knocking we both walked into the office and dad didn't look up from the paper he was writing furiously on until I called him.

"Victoria?" He dropped his pen and looked between my mother and I.

"Hey Dad," I said in a form of greeting and took a seat opposite from him, mum sitting beside me.

"What's going on?" Mum still had that confused look on her face.

"The wedding has to stop," I started.

Dad visibly relaxed and shook his head, he ran his hand over his face before looking at me. "We've had this conversation a million times before Victoria, the wedding is still happening."

"I know but the wedding has to stop," I didn't know how to tell them.

Dad sat back on his chair, "what exactly is going on here?"

Silence.

Dad leaned in again this time with so much speed as if he just figured something out, "did Miles do something? Did he hit you? What is it?"

I shook my head, "Miles has been nothing but a gentleman to me."

"Then what is it?" Mum spoke now, her voice at the edge of breaking.

I closed my eyes, unsure of how to tell them. What if they send me out? What if they disown me?

"Soro," mum pleaded and I started crying. (Talk)

I wiped my eyes furiously and rushed out. "I'm pregnant."

No one said anything for a good minute and I looked up to find mum and dad looking at themselves as if talking telepathically.

"For who?" Mum slowly tore her gaze from Dad and set it on me.

I dropped my head, shame washing allover me. "I don't know," I admitted.

Mum visibly tensed beside me, "what do you mean you don't know?"

"I mean I don't know," I said this time with more volume.

"Victoria I don't understand you, what do you mean you don't know? Who is it? Andrew or Miles?"

"I don't know mum," I looked up at her through my teary eyes and reality slowly dawned on her.

She looked at my father and back at me and this time she looked at me with a sense of understanding. She touched my arm, "It's okay, I'm not ashamed of you."

The words I needed to hear. I slightly relaxed, at least mum wasn't going to kill me. I looked at dad now and his face was still blank.

He stood up and walked to the window, he pulled the curtains to the side and tucked his left hand into his pocket. "That doesn't stop the wedding."

I was about to protest when mum stood up, storming her way over to dad. She pushed at his shoulder causing him to stumble back a little, a slightly startled look on his face.

"Enough of this Caleb!" She yelled. I could see the anger in her eyes, she's had enough.

"Can't you see that this wedding can't work? Why do you keep pushing it?" With every question she poked his chest

Dad held her hand and pulled her roughly towards him leaving only inches between them. "Sade stop!"

It was as if I wasn't there, as if they were in their own world. So I sat there and kept quiet.

"I am not going to stop because I've had enough of your bullshit, you keep pushing her to do something she doesn't want to do. Maybe if you aren't forcing her to marry someone she doesn't love then maybe she wouldn't be pregnant now and even if she is pregnant, it would be for Andrew and she would be very sure it's for him. Can't you see what you're doing?" She used her free hand to hit him, not giving up on passing her point.

Dad released her hand and walked away from her without saying another word.

"Answer me Caleb!" She yelled.

"Victoria please leave us," dad said now looking at me.

I nodded and made my way out of the room with my head down.

This is going to be a long night.
