chapter 35

Serendipity

SerendipityEpisode-35Some days, it feels like they should just be erased from life. Today was one of those days for Megha. She’d dealt with the disappointment of the Supreme project presentation, received unsolicited advice from Rajiv Mehra, tried to console Purab through an emotional breakdown, and topped it off with Priya’s talks on “second chances” and soulmates. The day felt tangled, messy—nothing seemed to go right. Even winning the Sehegal project felt hollow. Her father’s words rang in her mind: “Not every day is perfect, but even in an imperfect day, you can collect the perfect moments. They accumulate as cherished memories, and the rest? They’re simply experience.” He often added, “In the end, a bundle of experience is more useful than a bundle of memories.”Reflecting on this, Megha reached for her phone, habitually checking her office emails and then switching over to her personal account. She blinked, then blinked again. There it was, an email she had been hoping for:Singhania School had finally called Arya in for a final interview, scheduled for two days from now.Unconsciously, her eyes welled up with tears. This was more than just an admission—it was the fulfillment of a dream. She remembered Sameer’s words from eleven years ago:“Megha, we have to give our children the best. They deserve an education we never had. They won’t go through the struggles we did.”She recalled his wistful expression, a man who’d grown up as a dependent in his uncle’s home after losing his parents at age seven. One year into their marriage, he’d already dreamed of his future children.“I want two adorable girls, just like you,” Sameer would say, laughing,“Or maybe a boy like me and a girl like you?” They’d laughed about names, settling on Arya for a girl, Aryan for a boy, so they’d match like siblings should.“We’ll give them the world’s happiness,” he’d said, “They won’t be deprived of anything.”“Yes, Sameer,” Megha had added,“But not everything should be handed over. They’ll work hard too, just like you and I did. Like how you got into IIT and IIM on scholarships—you worked for it. They should too.”“Absolutely, Megha, our kids will be smart and hardworking.” And with a mischievous grin, he had hugged her close, laughing,“Then let’s start making babies, right?”The bittersweet memory faded as she looked at her phone, now in her hands again.Carefully, she wiped the tears gathering at the edges of her eyes. Sameer, she thought, we were going to fulfil this dream together. You left me, with all these dreams now mine to fulfill alone. But this—this will be our shared goal now.Soon, she would see Arya, and tomorrow evening, her family would be together again. The Singhania interview could mean a new dawn for Arya, a bright beginning she and Sameer had once dreamed of.New Day...
