VS - Chapter 3
The Vampire's Pet (Published) Book 1 and 2
Rose tapped her fingers against her leg as she blankly stared out the window. She didn't want to see Phil again, not after he had manipulated her to try and leave Henry. She breathed in deeply as she thought about it, but she had to help these pets. She wished she had someone that remotely cared about her when she was a pet, she knew what it felt like and needed to help these people.
She felt as Henry placed his hand on top of hers, she glanced at him.
"You don't have to do this," Henry said as he interlocked his fingers with hers.
"No, I want to help them, I wish I had someone for me, and I know they want someone to do the same."
"I just... I know what he did to you and I can get the pets too-"
"But they'll be scared and probably abused, they need someone that's been through what they've been through."
"I know, but-"
"Henry, I'm going." Henry sighed deeply.
"Fine, but if you ever feel like you need to go then teleport back to the house, I'll get the pets, I promise." Rose placed her other hand on top of his. She looked at Henry who was staring at the road, but a worried look rested on his face. Rose glanced out the window again as she watched the trees and ground move by fast, almost too fast. She closed her eyes, she didn't want to get there anytime soon but knew they would.
They pulled up to the house, Henry glanced at Rose and saw her looking blankly, and yet worriedly, at the house.
"Are -"
"Yes," she said, cutting him off. She continued to look at the house blankly. Henry nodded his head as he got out of the car, a second went by before Rose got out as well.
Henry looked at the house, his childhood house. Even though he grew up there and felt like he should get a warming feeling, he got a cold, hateful, abandoned, feeling. He noticed differences as he walked closer to the house.
Phil's car was parked crooked in the garage, his car was in the space where Lisa's car used to be. Vines and bushes were starting to be overgrown as the vines started to climb the house and the bushes looked like they hadn't been trimmed in years.
He glanced up at the front door, a door he had run out of several times because Phil would yell at him for not being like Rider. He saw Lisa running out the door behind him in an effort to catch him, but he was too fast.
Another image flashed through his head on those same steps, the day that Phil had thrown Lisa out. His fist clenched in anger as he saw Phil shoving Lisa out the door as she stumbled down the steps.
He glanced down at Rose who was clinging to his arm as part of her face was leaning against his arm. He leaned down and placed a kiss on her head. He lightly squeezed her hand for reassurance and she squeezed his hand back.
They walked up the stairs and to the front door, Henry knocked on the front door several times, but there was no answer. After a minute or so Henry opened the door and they walked in. Rose covered her mouth and nose with her free hand and Henry placed his face into his shoulder as he coughed. The smell that they were met with was unbearable. It smelt like alcohol and rotting bodies, it was a bitter smell that both Rose and Henry could taste in the back of their mouths. Rose and Henry both gagged and coughed.
"Dad?!" Henry yelled, not bringing his face out of his shoulder. There was no response. "Dad?!" Henry yelled again, this time a bit more worried. He almost yelled again, but they both froze as they heard glass breaking in the living room.
Henry walked forward as Rose clung to his arm. Henry walked down the curved, dark brown oak stairs. Henry turned the corner and opened the door to the living room. The stench that they had first smelled increased dramatically.
Henry's eyes widened at what he saw. Rose buried her face in Henry's chest as she closed her eyes. There were dead bodies lying all across the room. Some of the bodies were freshly killed, and some were months old. The abuse of the people varied along with the decay of the bodies.
Henry was brought out of his horror and shock as he heard a girl scream. He looked up into the corner of the room and saw a girl huddling in the corner as she held up her hands to protect her face. Phil was standing over her as he slightly swayed back and forth, he raised his hand to hit her.
In a second Henry was in between Phil and the girl. Henry grabbed Phil's arm before he could move it. Phil looked up at Henry.
"He... Henyr," Phil said as he swayed a little. Henry could smell the alcohol on his breath. Henry looked around the room again and saw a lot of alcohol bottles spilled and broken. "Hi... ya," Phil said. He took his free hand and patted the side of Henry's face.
"Dad, you need to rest," Henry said as he slightly moved Phil to the blood-stained couch.
"No...oo I do... nt."
"Yes you do," Henry said as he lightly shoved Phil onto the couch. He watched as Phil tried to sit up, but couldn't. Henry watched as Phil exhausted himself so much trying to sit up that he passed out.
Henry turned his attention to the girl that was huddled in the corner. Rose was bent down beside her as the girl huddled and cried in fear. She had slightly dark blonde hair that went down past her shoulder blades. Her eyes were an ocean blue and a few bruises rested on her skin.
Henry sat down on the top of the couch as he watched them, he didn't want to accidentally scare the girl.
"Pl-please, d-don't hurt m-me," the girl said to Rose. Henry closed his eyes as the girls stutter reminded him of Rose's stutter when she was scared.
"Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you," Rose said. The girl looked up at Rose questionably. Rose slowly reached out her hand, as to not frighten the girl. The girl looked at her hand for a second before she grabbed Rose's hand.
Rose helped her stand up as she slowly helped her get to a chair. Rose helped her sit down.
"Pl-please-" the girl stopped as she chocked on her tears.
"What?" Rose asked. The girl pointed to a body on the floor.
"Th-that's my br-brother," she managed to choke out. Rose looked up at Henry. Henry walked to the boy that was laying on the ground, a broken beer bottle was laying around his head as a small pool of blood laid around his head. The boy had messy blonde hair that naturally fell around his face, it was the length of his ears. The boy seemed to be around Joey's height but was skinnier.
Henry knelt down next to the boy as he started to examine him. The girl started to breathe heavily as she watched Henry look at her brother.
"What's your name?" Rose asked as she moved in front of the girl's vision of her brother.
"M-master hasn't-"
"Your real name," Rose said cutting her off. Listening to the girl talk about master's brought her back to when she was a pet.
"Harper."
'That's a pretty name."
"... Thanks." She glanced up at Henry who was carrying her brother. Henry laid him down on another couch. "I-is he...?" Harper trailed off as tears sprang up in her eyes.
"No, he's just knocked out," Henry said. Harper blew out a sigh of relief. "I'll go get some bandages," Henry said as he walked out of the room.
"Why are you two being nice?" Harper asked.
"We like humans," Rose said. Harper looked up at her confused. Henry walked back into the room with bandages. He bandaged the boys head. "What's your brother's name?" Rose asked.
"Erik." Rose opened her mouth to say something but was cut off as Phil groaned. They all looked at Phil, he was waking up.
