Ch.4 Ava's Mate

The Hybrid ( BOOK I & II)

// The lyrics below are beautiful and so fitting for the flashback in this chapter <3 //

We keep this love in a photograph

We made these memories for ourselves

Where our eyes are never closing

Hearts are never broken

Times forever frozen still

________

Ava blinked her eyes, peaceful  sleep still deep in her system, as she yawned  and her eyes connected with deep brown ones.

"Sebastian, what are you doing in he-"

Sebastian leaped towards Ava, his hand firmly pressed against her lips and his eyes portraying fear. With his toned legs, he straddled his girlfriend as she lay beneath him, her eyebrows furrowed.

"Shh, you are going to wake him up!" Sebastian whispered with urgency, his voice rough but not from sleep.

Ava darted her tongue out, almost like a child and licked Sebastian's hand that covered her mouth. He snatched his hand away, a grimace on his handsome face.

"Who?" Ava asked quietly, adjusting her body under Sebastian's weight.

Sebastian gave her a pointed look, making the girl roll her violet eyes.

"Are still scared of my dad?" Ava wrapped her arms around Sebastian's neck, bringing their faces closer, just inches from another.

"He did threaten my family jewels."

Not only did Remy threaten Sebastian's manly parts, he put pure fear in the teenage boy. When time for bed rolled around, Remy was happy to guide Sebastian to the living room couch, handing him a blanket and a pillow. Remy himself had joined Sebastian in the living room, fangs displayed and beady black eyes as he leaned back on the single sofa.  No words had been spoken, but the quiet "goodnight" from Sebastian.

The boy wasn't sure how many hours had passed before he finally fell asleep, but he was glad the man wasn't there when he awoke.

"It won't be that bad. Maddox is back and that should keep him busy for the meantime." Ava said, hoping her words were true.

"Do you think your dad is awake?" Sebastian asked, before kissing her neck softly.

"You wouldn't be here, if he is. " Ava had her hands in Sebastian's dark hair, her eyes closed as she tried to block out any thoughts of her father.

Sebastian was reassured and continued to kiss on his girlfriend, her collar bones, her neck, her rosy cheeks and finally the red lips he desired. Their lips connected and the kiss was sweet and slow. They definitely had chemistry and that was something that gave Sebastian and Ava more hope that they were  possibly mates.

With Ava's super hearing she could hear her family downstairs, bedroom doors opening and closing, quiet spoken words and the old coffee machine in the process of making her dads coffee.

Sighing quietly, Ava gently pushed Sebastian off of her, lips slightly swollen. "Everyone is up."

Sebastian situated his pajama pants, and stood from her bed. "I think I should go back downstairs."

"I'll go with you, I just need to jump in the shower real quick." Ava pulled clothes from her closet, before pecking Sebastian on the cheek.

"Hey, what's that black box up there?" Sebastian was already pulling the box from the top of the closet, when Ava rushed over to him.

She held her hands over Sebastian's, keeping him from lifting the lid of the box that held all her childhood memories.

Chuckling Sebastian looked at his girlfriend. "Whatever it is, it can't be that bad. Let me see."

Ava knew she shouldn't have let him open the box, but regretfully she did.

Ava felt like her heart was being torn into two, and Maddox had taken the other half. She cried, sobbed and whaled, gripping the material over her chest where her heart was. Her violet eyes long changed into a dark blue, her sadness obvious to anyone who dared to come into her room.

Ava had never felt such sadness in her life and she wondered if that's what it felt like to lose your soulmate. But if Maddox was her fairytale mate, then he would have never left her. And that thought made Ava sadder.

Had Maddox been unhappy with Ava? Was it because she was part vampire and not one of those pretty she-wolves from their pack? What had Ava done wrong that made Maddox leave six weeks ago?

They had always been happy together, and even when they weren't -it didn't matter because they were together.

It didn't matter what her dad or her mom told her. Maddox had left and he wasn't ever coming back.

With that thought Ava emptied the black box that held her old dolls, and threw everything in there that reminded her of the wounded boy.  Pictures of them, gifts, funny notes, paintings, drawings and their journal.

From all the things in that box,  the journal held the most meaning. It had Maddox's written words in it, his thoughts, the feelings they both shared for each other that couldn't be acted upon at such a young and innocent age in their lives.

How could he do this to her? How could the boy she loved just leave her without a single word?

When Sebastian lifted the lid of the box, Ava snatched the journal from the box, as waves of emotion coursed through her body.

Sebastian had been oblivious to his girlfriend that was near an emotional break down, as he lifted up a necklace with a small snowflake pendent. "This is really nice. What is all this stuff?"

Ava feared that the tears would fall, so she held the journal tight to her chest as she turned her back to Sebastian and hurried towards the bathroom door. "It's stuff from a few years back."

Sebastian hummed quietly and continued to look the through the box, while Ava gratefully slipped behind the bathroom door where she didn't have to hide her embarrassing tears for a boy that didn't love her anymore.

Maddox had changed. Ava had changed and years had passed.  Ava couldn't forget she had Sebastian by her side.  He wasn't Maddox, but he had a special place in her heart and truthfully maybe he was her mate.

.

.

Sebastian was out of breath, as the third hour neared that him and Maddox had been "working out". Sebastian was no athlete, he didn't posses any supernatural strengths and going up against Maddox wasn't an easy task.

But Sebastian wasn't weak. He did manage to overthrow Maddox twice, but deep down he knew the werewolf had let him win, and that led to Sebastian trying more, punching harder, kicking faster, dodging quicker.

After the last round him and Maddox sat on the bench across from the boxing ring. Sweat dripped down Sebastian's forehead and the back of his neck, his right hand clutching the water bottle.

"How close were Ava and you before you left? Sebastian asked, after having found partly romantic things in the black box.

Maddox looked calm and collected, but his eyes portrayed something else. "We were friends. Why?"

Sebastian nodded his head, scratching the back of his neck. "She allowed me to look in a box that held all of your memories. A lot of those things looked like you two were closer than friends."

This time Maddox's jaw was clenched and Sebastian could see the anger hidden behind those hazel eyes.

After a while Maddox glanced at Sebastian. "We were really just friends."

"Thanks for being honest." Sebastian said quietly, afterwards gulping down some of his water.

"Have Ava and you talked about the mate subject?" Maddox asked, his voice deep and rough.

"Yeah." Sebastian replied, wiping the sweat from his eyebrow, without elaborating any further.

"What are you two going to do when Ava finds her mate?" Maddox asked, watching Sebastian with curious eyes.

Sebastian swallowed the water in his mouth, before swiping a hand over his mouth. "We'd break up, but were both pretty sure that we are mates."

The words had left Sebastian's mouth and by the time he looked towards Maddox,  the man was already up and gone.

Weird, he's definitely weird.  Sebastian thought to himself.

Sebastian followed Maddox into the changing room and began changing himself. As he turned to pull up his jeans, the ugly thick scars on Maddox's back caught his attention.

"Woah dude, where'd you get those scars from?"

Maddox turned around slowly, head tilted to the side as if studying Sebastian. "What, Ava didn't tell you?"

__________

**READ THIS*** There is one important line in the flashback that clearly states: they had romantic feelings, but their actions in their relationship were never romantic. They loved each other, but their love for each other was displayed in a innocent and pure way.

Maddox is mad ;) But if I was in his spot I'd be a little mad too. Ava showed Sebastian, despite the meaning that box contained.

What's going to happen next?

Remy is too ... typical Remy. I love him!

I decided on names for Gen & Remy's children. -Roman -Ava Rose- Silas & Sawyer -
