ALL THE STRINGS ATTACHED | COMPLETED
THEODORE.
That asshole.
14 fucking years. I was left roaming for so damn long.
When I finally realized that he was the one I was looking for all this time, the emotions were overflowed.
I resented the fact that I forgot about him for so long. The self-blame kicked in and I wanted to slap myself so bad. How lonely was he all this time?
Anger came next because I remembered that this was something that could have been avoided. We could have been happy together, but things went down another road because of Daniel's worries.
Sadness and regret crashed in when I remembered I wasn't there for him when he needed it. When he was facing all these thoughts alone, I was going on about how happy I was about other trivial things.
Anxiousness took over when Daniel tried to push me away once more. He wanted to run away and hide again, thinking that it was for my sake. Fuck, I had to do so much convincing just to make him stay.
I should be glad that he even agreed to stay friends first, but I was selfish. I wanted to be more than friends from the get-go.
I put the weights down and wiped the sweat off my face with my towel. Hitting the gym didn't seem to be helping me release my frustrations.
Asking Alex for advice the other day was the wrong idea. He first laughed at us for how stupid we sound, "because it's something straight out of a drama series!" he said.
After all, "14 years is a big gap. How sure were you that everything will be the same as when you were young?" Alex then went on about how Daniel may be right in asking for some space first.
Picking up my phone, I saw a notification from my sister, saying she was in town for a meeting.
I punched in the numbers and held the phone to my ear. The person on the other side picked up the call after a few rings.
"Tri, we need to talk."
ââââââââââ
"Make it quick buddy. Queen here doesn't have all day," she said as she sat down.
"Yeah, nice to see you too Tri."
"So what's got your panties in a bunch? You sounded serious over the phone." She skimmed over the menu and turned her attention to the waiter. "One hot mocha. Thanks." He quickly noted down her order before taking the menu and retreating to behind the cashier. "Which chick did you screw up this time?"
"First of all, boxers are much more comfortable. Secondly, I didn't screw any chicks. I'm not a screwdriver. Thirdly, we're in a restaurant. Aren't you gonna order any food? What's wrong with you?"
She brushed her locks behind her shoulder and gave me her bitchiest look she could. "When I looked at the menu, there was no such food called 'Trinity's special'. Hence, I'm not ordering. Plus, it's like only 3 in the afternoon? Who eats at such a horrible timing?"
"Yours truly," I answered while stuffing a big piece of chicken breast into my mouth.
She rolled her eyes. "So what is it you want to talk about?"
I swallowed my food and placed my utensils down. "I want to know what happened 14 years ago."
She sighed and rubbed her temples. "If this is what it's about, I'm out. Can't you ask me something else? I'm not a broken recorder, repeating the same story over and over again ain't fun."
I waved my index finger at her. "Tri, today you will need to cut the tape in the cassette, tape the missing pieces, rewind and play it from the beginning."
"What the fuck did you just say?" She raised her eyebrow at me, most likely in disbelief that I said something so absurd.
"You heard me. Cut, tape, rewind. You were missing details, am I right or am I right?"
She looked at me for a good 5 seconds before figuring out I was serious.
"What do you want to know?"
"A to Z, everything in between."
ââââThe day at the hospitalââââ
"I need a favor from you," Daniel pleaded.
"What favor are you talking about?" Trinity nearly yelled at the boy talking to her.
'How shameless was he to be asking for help when he was the one who got Theodore into this mess?' she thought to herself.
"It's something you won't be able to reject."
There was a pause between the two. One eyeing the other, asking what exactly the other wanted. One looking like he was about to crumble.
"Don't let him remember me."
Her eyes widened, her brain trying to figure out if what she just heard was just her hallucinations or reality.
"Don't let him remember you? Dan, what the hell?"
Daniel couldn't do anything but sigh, something that he's been doing ever since Theodore was lying on the bed 2 days ago.
"We all know this is wrong. Us being together should have never happened."
Trinity folded her arms. "Don't fuck around. You and I both know he will crash and burn without you. He gave up the chance to intern overseas because of you."
"And that's why we are a mistake."
Her expression softened when she saw how hard Daniel was gripping his fists, how pained and helpless he sounded. "Daniel, you love him."
"I do."
"Then why are you doing this? Are your parents making you break up again?"
He shook his head. "They already disowned me 6 months ago. Though Theo doesn't know about it. I'm a failure in their eyes, was bound to happen anyway."
"Daniel, I'm sor-"
"Don't," he cut her off. "It doesn't matter anymore."
Both parties were silent at the sudden revelation. It came to Trinity as a surprise that Daniel was now on his own. Yet, he was letting go of the person that meant the most to him.
"So will you do me the favour?" he asked once more.
"Dan, I don't think this is such a good idea." Trinity knew her brother very well. If he did get his memories back, Theodore would flip the Earth inside out just to look for Daniel. "The doctor already said so, he may remember you sooner than you think."
"If he doesn't have any trigger, he won't."
"You're gonna be killing yourself on the inside for this."
He gave a sad smile. "I know, but for him, I'll do anything."
Trinity sensed that he was being serious and wouldn't back down. She tilted her head back and closed her eyes, breathing in deeply, hoping the cool disinfected air might help clear her thoughts.
Theodore was going to hate her for this.
"What do you want me to do?"
ââââââââââââ
"I had a hard time clearing all the photos, stuffed toys, coffee cups. Man, you had so many things that would remind you of him. Did you guys need ten thousand different polaroid pictures?" she whined.
"You cleared everything? Did you throw them away?" I was internally begging her to say no.
She sipped her mocha was gave me a look that said Theodore was an idiot. "Did you think I would throw anything away? They're kept in a box."
"And where is said box?"
She placed her drink down. "Wherever Daniel is. He asked to keep it. The only thing I didn't get to clear, was that red necklace of yours. He wanted to you keep it. If it was thrown away, it was your own doing and I quote, 'It showed your both weren't meant to be.' Unquote."
She leaned back into her seat. "But I guess you kept it in the end."
"Oh." That fucker. He drowned himself in the past just to give me a 'future'. Was he a character out of a cheesy romance movie or something?
Still, I was kind of glad that he decided to let me keep the necklace. It was because of this necklace that I felt the need to constantly search for someone.
And I managed to find him in the end.
"I know what you're thinking. That Daniel is being stupid for doing whatever he did, but it's with some sort of valid reason," she tried to help him explain. "And he's right. You guys just met after being apart for so long. It might be a good idea to restart."
"I'm working on it," I answered.
She rested her chin on the back of her hands. "You'd better. I don't want to be running back to your apartment and clearing things a second time. It's too much of a hassle."
I rolled my eyes. "Shut up, Tri."
