CHAPTER XXXIX: THE EVIL TURNED AN ANGEL

Why the heroine became the villainess?

The pretending days continued for the young duke. He frequently visited the lady as named Rose. It was a funny story to believe at first.

He, who hated and cursed the lady, was liking playing a hide and seek game. His memories of the lady, who was like her first time meeting him, came into flashes.

"It means that we are friends now, right?"

"I will call you, Rose, because you have a beautiful and vibrant red eyes."

"Thank you!" Her hands clasped together. After that, she ran away from him and left the words while waving. "See you again."

The known wicked woman was smiling like a bright innocent lady on that day that you will never see. At first, he did not believe that the lady did not recognize him so he observed first. However, if it really was true that she did not pretending, for insurance, he intended not to talk to her to assure his position. Because, if she would hear his voice, his identity will might be revealed in no time.

But at their second meeting, all his suspicion has been cleared.

"It really is beautiful—"

"..."

She shook her head and hands. "I am sorry. It a slipped of a tongue. Actually, it just that—"

"..."

"It just that your eyes are real beauty."

His eyes widened in disbelief. The mind was loudly berating to him that the lady is suspicious, but he could not deny the appearance of sincerity from her.

"Anyway, maybe, it is because my first love has the same color of your eyes."

He flinched inwardly and immediately turned his head to face the lady, but it was a gentle smile greeted his confusion.

"It was first love, and I guess, also the first broken heart."

"But past is past. I already learned to let go of those feelings, and it was just a one-sided love after all."

The lady, who looked innocently smiling to him, really not recognized him as the young heir of Duke Aland.

****-------****

They played a game, whom the lady offered to him. The lady kept up in confusing him every minute, but he ensured not to be guard off. It was the Lady Beatrice that he was facing on.

Contrary to his expectation, he enjoyed the game. It was a staring game. A game, which he was in control. It was hilarious. The young duke of Aland really enjoyed and tormenting by flicking the forehead of the lady, who annoyed and scourged his mentality. It was well-thought punishment of the game for him.

Even so, he still felt guilt seeing the tomato bump on her forehead. It was also resulted from his goal of unfolding her wickedness, but the latter only innocently pouted and act like a lady, who was beaten up in a petty game.

And on the other hand, the lady with already reddened bump on her forehead was still able to smile at him.

Until that day came, they were at the peak of the land where you can see the wide blue sky and the village. It was a normal routine of his deception days with the lady.

The lady brought him a lot of books regarding romance and fantasy. He coldly glanced unto it with disbelief, but still pursued to pick it up. It was part of his undercover.

Being with her from the past few days, he already learned a lot about her, rather, he already discovered the unbelievable changes of the lady. She was like an evil turned to be an angel, but of course, the idea was still implausible. It was very hard to accept at his part, who personally saw and experienced her wickedness at first hand. The jealousy and arrogance of the lady were not easy to set aside. He continued on wearing caution and wariness towards her.

While he was reading the book, the lady telling about her maid and how terrible being was she. He stopped reading and looked at the lady. The fact of the mistreatment of the lady to her servants was known to him.

That's why, he immediately asked the lady about it. By all means, he was expecting the story about how she tormented her servants. However, the lady was referring to the upcoming birthday of her maid. She was frantically panicking to buy her a gift.

He was relieved and felt warm, but shook it off immediately. "Why on earth that he was relieved?"

"Ah. Yes, he was relieved because of the maid was not harmed."

Those words repetitively echoed on his mind, but he deeply knew that it was not the real reason why he was relieved.

Out of confusion, he uttered a suggestion that he had no intention to bring up.

[Then, how about you sneak out? Just like now?]

It was his biggest regret, but he could not correct what he had done. The lady was already taken by the idea. As a matter of fact, the reason of his regret immediately showed at that moment. She pleaded with teary-eyed to guide and join her little escapade. She even promised that after their objective, they will immediately back to the estate and so forth.

He dug his own grave at that moment.

****-------****

Until the set day of their little escapade came, he guided the lady to the secret cave, which he used in going in and outside of the Marquees Croix' estate. He became more vigilant, because he thought that the lady might start to build suspicion towards him after knowing the said cave. And he was right.

He was right that the lady became an idiot without his knowledge.

The lady did not even show any suspicion towards him. In contrary, he can see the lady trusted her more and enjoying their little escapade. It was like her first time doing something ridiculous as this. On other parts, the lady's face became red like a tomato for some reasons. He just thought that it might be because of the sun light. The lady's skin was fully cared inside their estate.

They entered in the hidden cave. He lighted up the torch which he left every time that he sneaked in and out. At the end of the cave, the light started to seep through. It was already visible to their eyes.

Their walks became fast, rather, he was swayed by the excitement of the lady.

"Woah. This place is amazing, Rose."

The lady ran and stopped around the beautiful flower field. Then, she turned to face him who was left behind. He flinched. For the time being, his mind stopped at that moment.

She was like a fairy who was freed from the dark. She was really happy looking around. At his eyes, the lady's surroundings sparkled. Her silver hair flowed at her every movement. It glimmered as the sun light touched it.

"Rose, do you believe in fairies?"

At that question of the lady, a memory was revived from his deep self.

"—fairies?"

"My son, do you believe in fairies?"

"Are they true, mother?"

"Of course, they are true. It said that they are small creatures like us, but with beautiful butterfly sparkled wings."

"But I haven't seen any of them."

"Not because you don't see them, doesn't mean that they aren't there."

His eyes became cold with the sudden burst of memory from her mother, her lovable and sweet mother who left him in this world with unknown illness.

"Do you know that they are small creatures with beautiful wings, and when they flapped their wings, it emitted sparkled dust? Aren't they very interesting and beautiful creatures?"

"..."
