Chapter 71
Reborn Before The Divorce
ââ¦â Yes, itâs domestic violence, but itâs me who abuses Jesse.
âItâs really okay. You came to see me specifically, and Iâm happy about it. These past few days have been really tough, but Iâll treat you to a meal in a few days. I canât entertain you today.â
âWe just came to see you. Donât worry about treating us. Nydia, why do I feel like youâre distant from us?â
Willette felt that Nydia was different from before, but she couldnât pinpoint what exactly was different. It just made her uncomfortable.
âSister, are you blaming me?â Nydia suddenly asked Willette in a tone of disbelief. âSo many things have happened to me, and youâre blaming me? Iâm already at my witâs end. How can you blame me, sister?â
As she spoke, Nydiaâs eyes had turned red, leaving Willette dumbfounded.
âNo, I didnât mean that. I justâ¦â
âSister, youâre already so lucky. You have such an excellent husband by your side. Canât you be more tolerant towards me?â
â?â Willette had a confused expression. What did she say?
She then turned her head to see Barclay looking at her reproachfully.
âWillette, you shouldnât say things like that to Nydia. Sheâs already having a hard time, and sheâs tired. Letâs not disturb her. Letâs go.â
Willette was left speechless. She didnât say anything wrong, but Nydia and Barclay had accused her of doing so.
âMadam, master is back.â A servant came up to Nydia and said.
Then Jesse appeared in the house, sitting in a wheelchair. His face was cold, and his handsome features carried a strong aggressiveness that made people afraid to look at him.
âMr. Pascall.â Barclay greeted him proactively.
âHmm, have a seat.â
âWe were just about to leave.â Barclay said.
âWould you like to stay for lunch or dinner before you leave? Itâs almost mealtime,â Jesse suggested, trying to persuade them to stay.
Willette, Barclay, and even Nydia were surprised that Jesse would try to convince them to stay, as this had never happened before.
âWhatâs the matter? Donât want to stay?â Jesseâs tone was light, with a hint of a smile, which seemed somewhat gentle.
But this kind of gentleness made Willette and Barclay feel uneasy. Jesse was usually cold and distant, so when he suddenly smiled, it was not necessarily a good thing.
âNydia isnât feeling very well. Weâre afraid that staying for lunch will disturb you,â Willette explained.
âWhy would it? Iâm happy you can stay for lunch. I was worried about serving you all by myself before, but now that Jesseâs back, Iâm not so worried. Letâs go to the dinning room,â Jesse said, with Nydia smiling, shaking off her previous lethargy.
Willette and Barclay exchanged a glance, both sensing a question in each otherâs eyes: Whatâs up with this couple?
After sitting down in the dinning room, the chef began to serve the food.
âI heard Miss Malone opened a restaurant, and I imagine you know a lot about food. I wonder if todayâs dishes will suit your taste,â Jesse said, initiating the conversation.
His voice was usually cold and intimidating, making it difficult for people to feel close to him. However, today he was talking more and was less icy, which made people feel that he was not so difficult to get along with.
Willette felt that Jesseâs attitude towards her today was somewhat subtle. He never used to give her a second glance, but today he invited them to stay for lunch and even mentioned the restaurant to her.
Could it be that she looked particularly good today?
