Chapter 24
Reborn Before The Divorce
âNo, he didnât find out. I took a big risk to get it. If he had found out, I would have been doomed,â Nydia said, unable to help glancing at Jesse and noting his expression, which remained the same as before.
âThank you for your hard work, Nydia. Iâll treat you to a meal next time. Did you get a hard copy or an electronic version?â
âAn electronic version. I can send it to you now.â
âOkay, please send it to my email.â
Nydia silently mouthed to Jesse, âYou do it.â She had already logged into her email, so Jesse only needed to use her email to send the revised proposal to Barclay.
Jesse had already begun the operation.
âBrother-in-law, Iâve sent it to you. Please take a look,â Jesse said.
âGreat, Iâll check it right away,â Barclayâs voice became more excited after five or six seconds. âIâve got it. This is the proposal. Thank you so much, Nydia. Iâll definitely treat you to a meal.â
âOkay, thatâs all. I wonât talk to you anymore. Jesse is coming back soon,â Nydia said.
âOkay, bye.â
Barclay hung up the phone immediately. Nydia checked the email she had just sent and breathed a sigh of relief. It was done!
âIf Barclay wins this order, they will lose money,â Jesse said.
âHe will work hard to win it to compete with you, even if it means losing money,â Nydia said.
âBut what if he insists on winning? This order is important to our group too.â
Our group?
Jesseâs heart skipped a beat.
âLetâs talk about it later,â he didnât give a definite answer, so Nydia didnât ask again.
She handed her phone to Jesse.
âIâll leave my phone with you.â
Jesse refused after thinking for two seconds. âThereâs no need for that.â
Since they were playing chess, both sides had to make their moves. Nydia had already made hers, so why couldnât he make his?
As for whether Nydia really wanted to stand on his side, the answer would be revealed soon enough.
After Nydia left the study, his assistant came in.
âBoss, Mr. Wollridge has called several times asking to meet with you.â
âPut him off.â
âHe was waiting outside the companyâs gate just two days ago.â
âWell, letâs see how determined he is,â Jesse said after thinking for a moment. âMake it difficult for him.â
The assistant knew exactly what Jesse meant after a momentâs hesitation.
âOkay.â
âAnd have someone keep an eye on Barclayâs movements.â
âOkay.â
âThatâs all.â
But the assistant didnât seem to be leaving yet. He looked at Jesse hesitantly.
âWhat else?â
âBoss, the doctor says you need a massage for your leg. It will help with the recovery.â
As soon as he brought up the matter, Jesseâs face turned dark and terrifying. When he looked at the assistant again, his eyes were like knives, cutting into him. He froze in place and dared not look at Jesse again.
âGet out!â
The assistant was frightened, but he thought it would be good for Jesse, so he wanted to speak up again.
But after meeting Jesseâs eyes, he swallowed his words again. He knew very well that if he said anything else, he would definitely be kicked out.
He could only bow deeply and leave the study.
Just as he walked out, he heard the sound of heavy objects falling and breaking inside the study, which startled him.
He glanced back at the study and hesitated, worried that something might happen inside.
âWhatâs going on? Is everything okay in there?â Nydia ran over, looking worried.
âItâs nothing, you go rest, Iâll handle it here.â
Nydia noticed that the assistantâs expression was not quite right.
âDid you anger him?â
