Chapter Thirty Nine

Forever Yours

"What clinic are we going to?" I asked Funke just as we drove past the regular clinic I go to.

"We're going to see Adrian's mum," she said, glancing at me for a second.

I had wanted to drive us earlier but Funke insisted that she drove, saying that she was scared that I would crash us in my current state of mind.

My head was allover the place and I couldn't think straight. I don't know what I'll do if at the end of the day the child is for Miles.

Will he want to keep it? Will he hate me or will he accept me after I've been dumped by Andrew?

How will I live with this pregnancy? I can't stay in Nigeria that's for sure. My father and mother wouldn't even allow it because I'm a disgrace to the family name, getting pregnant before marriage.

My life will have to be paused.

One thing is certain, whoever is the father of the child is who I'm going to end up getting married to, that one I'll have no choice in. Because I can't imagine having a child for Miles and still getting married to Andrew, how will it be?

It'll be weird and awkward, that's if Andrew is even going to marry me after all this.

I'm such a big fool, I can't believe I was so careless, sex without condom and no pills? Who does that? And not just with one guy, two guys.

I groaned again, sinking more into my seat.

I'm a big disgrace really. My mother may not be angry because I got pregnant, she may be angry because I was careless, we were both careless.

I remember a while back just before we went for youth service, mum had sat me down and given me the talk of 'safe sex.' She had talked about it before I went to college but not like she did the last time.

She knew that Andrew and I were getting intimate and that's why she had to give me the talk again to remind me.

Now I just failed her and failed the family name. God I'm stupid.

"We're here," Funke's words pulled me out of my train of thoughts and I got down from the car.

She led the way into the private hospital seeing as she knows the place so well and I had only been here with her once.

"Good morning sir, is my mother in?" She asked some male nurse and the man nodded. "Please can you tell her I'm here and it's urgent?" She asked with a sweet voice and the man smiled and nodded before walking away.

She dragged me into a room and told me to sit down which I did.

"She'll soon be here, probably gisting with her friends somewhere, it's her break time." Funke explained.

I started fidgeting with my hands, twisting them this way and that but it didn't stop the nerves in my body from shaking me. I hate this feeling.

I studied the office again to take my mind off things. The walls were white and it had various paintings and medical stuffs hanging around.

There was a couch at the far corner and a bed on the other side. In front of me was a desk that had a computer, two picture frames and a stack of papers and books then to my right was a book shelve. The office was fairly big and thank goodness the air conditioning was working perfectly well.

"I didn't know nurses had these kind of offices," I noted to Funke and she nodded.

"She's a little more than just a nurse. She has a doctor's and nurse's license so she's actually a doctor but at first she was a nurse so everyone just calls her nurse and it's true she's a nurse so no biggie there." She shrugged casually and I smiled.

"Wow, Adrian's mum is amazing," I said in appreciation and she nodded.

"Yeah she is," she nodded and just then the door opened and Adrian's mother walked.

"I'm so sorry I took so long, what's the matter?" She walked to her chair and sat. "Victoria how are you?" She smiled at me.

"I'm fine and you?" I smiled back.

"Oh, just there." She looked at Funke now. "What's up?"

"We're here for Victoria actually," she turned the attention to me. "Riya you want to tell her yourself?"

I nodded and inhaled first before exhaling. "I need a pregnancy test."

She first looked at Funke then back at me then nodded, "okay." She stood up and beckoned for me to follow her. "Well come on, I need you."

"How much longer?" I asked, already getting impatient as we sat in the office.

Aunt Destiny looked up from what she was doing, "not long now just relax okay?" She dropped her pen now. "Did you use the test kit first?"

I nodded, "yeah, five."

"And what did it say?" She now closed the book she was writing in and sat back on her chair.

"Positive," I said then held my breath.

"Then you probably are." She nodded.

"How exactly does this whole pregnancy thing work?" I kind of knew before but I need to hear from a professional first.

"What exactly do you need to know?"

"She slept with two different guys and now she doesn't know who she's pregnant for." Funke answered for me when I kept silent.

Aunt Destiny's eyes widened, "I'm not your mother but how did you let that happen?"

"She was blinded by lust," Funke answered for me again and this time I looked at her.

"What? It's true. There's no other reason why you would sleep with Miles when you had Andrew." She fired back and honestly she was right.

"Okay. How many days interval?" Aunt Destiny asked.

"Two days," I pulled my lips to a thin line.

"Okay, this one is going to be hard." She sighed and leaned towards her desk. "This is how it works. For me it's like a race, the sperm can stay in the uterus for five days before they all make a move and it's a matter of who's the fastest to get to the egg. Now if it's two different guys, the first guys sperm gets to the uterus and two days later another joins and maybe a day or two after they all move so right now, you won't be able to tell who the father is, not yet. You have to be nine weeks pregnant first before a DNA test can be done. And I'm guessing it's not up to nine weeks yet?"

I shook my head, "no."

"You're going to have to wait then."

"Is it possible that a test I did in a clinic could be wrong?"

"Yeah, it happens sometimes especially if the nurse is careless but the chances are low"

"Oh Jesus," I sighed and held my face in my hands.

My life is going to pieces.

A knock on the door got me tense and I looked up. The person walked in, holding a clipboard which she gave to Aunt Destiny before walking out of the room.

Aunt Destiny scanned the clipboard first before she looked up at me and opened her mouth.
