Chapter 25

Dodgeball

Plus Size Prisoner of Society

We stand single-file

Neatly in a row

I inhale deeply

Oh geez, here we go

The captains stand there

Competition deep in their eyes

Like winning this dodgeball game

Will get them some prize

One by one we get chosen

from our single-file line

Until it's just me

And some quiet, random guy

Judging eyes

My palms are pools

Oh God

How I hate high school

They look at him

Poor guy's a twig

Then they look at me

"Oink oink pig!"

Instead of responding,

I narrow my eyes towards the floor

Oh how I wish

I wasn't here any more

The heat from their stares

Is like a spotlight

Everything about this

Is so not right

I tuck back my arms

While I twiddle my fingers

The words "oink oink"

In the air, still lingers

The children all laugh

While they choose him over me

I stand there in shame

And just let it be

The last captain stands there

And just shrugs, "Come on"

Was that supposed to make me feel

Like I actually belonged?

My mind says to run

But my body stays froze

We all know how

This is about to go

I join my "team"

And they treat me like the enemy

"Just get yourself out first"

Not one single friend with me

The ball flies towards me

How can it miss?

It hits with spite

I get dismissed

I'm the first one out

They stare with humor in their eyes

Yup the fat girl is out first

What a big surprise

I pray this is the last time

I play the stupid game

Cause every time we play

It always ends the same.
