Chapter 32

From a Vampire's Brother to a Human's Mate (Book 2: Completed)

Dawn’s POV

“So do you have any questions?” Julie smiled at me after a few minutes of awkward silence.

I couldn’t put my finger on why I was so apt to forgive Tony from hiding this from me but I had this feeling like I couldn’t trust my best friends because they lied to me. Maybe it was because I had known them my whole life. Maybe it was because Tony wasn’t nearly as good as hiding it as they were. I knew something was up with Tony, but Julie a werewolf and Hannah a witch . . . Now that shook my nerves a little.

“Well, I do have one,” I grumbled. “Why won’t Tony let me be involved? I mean I know now, isn’t that all that matters. I am okay to be around they rest of his family now right?” I looked between them.

“It’s not that easy,” Hannah sighed.

“It’s more than just knowing. There are rules and edict that must be followed in our world. Rules that a human wouldn’t understand,” Julie explained.

“Especially because Tony’s family is like royalty. Do you know what Alpha even means, Dawn?” Hannah asked seriously.

“Well, It means . . . I mean basically . . . a King?” I guessed.

“That’s only the tip of the ice burg,” Julie sighed standing from the bed. She almost sounded annoyed at my ignorance. “An Alpha isn’t just a King. He’s a leader in so many more aspects than a king is,” She turned on me where I was curled up in the bed. “He isn’t our leader in a physical sense. I mean he okays and adjusts all the battle plans made by the Beta and he gives the warriors there orders, but there’s more. He doesn’t just throw his wolves onto the battle field he leads them onto it. He is there to give them courage and strength. An Alpha is pure power. And Tony is half pure-breed Alpha. That means when he takes his father’s spot as leader of our pack he could make other Alpha’s kneel to him if he wanted. But even power isn’t all an Alpha is. He is carrying and loving and a father to the whole pack. He treats each child as his own. Each male as his brother. And each woman as his mate. But you don’t even know what that means because you don’t even know what a mate is,” She threw her hands in the air.

“I am Tony’s mate,” I said quickly as if to show her I knew something.

Hannah put her hand on my knee and shook her head.

“Oh really?” Julie laughed. “Do you know what that means? Do you now what you mean to him? What Travis means to me?” She pushed.

I sighed and looked away from her and to the bed.

“It means,” she pushed, “that if you were to get hurt or put in pain . . . Tony would be hurt as well. And I don’t mean emotionally, Dawn,” She called my attention back to her. My eyes snapped to hers as I heard the emotion in her voice. I saw the tears in her eyes. “I mean physically too. I mean that if tony were to get hurt in battle, you would be hurt too. And you’re just human. You don’t belong in this world. That is why I never told you . . . not because of some stupid law, because you don’t belong with us,” She looked to Hannah.

This suddenly made me angry, “Oh so now that you all wolfed out and Hannah has magic powers or whatever, I am not good enough for you?” I snapped. “Are you saying just because I am human that means I am not good enough for Tony? Well you have no say in that so I am sorry I am destroying your precious Alpha!” I glared at her.

“That’s not what I am saying!” She complained as she sat next to me again

“No!” I looked away from her.

“No, Dawn listen,” Hannah sighed calmly. “She means that this world is too dangerous for you. I have my powers, Julie and the wolves have their strength and speed to protect them. You have nothing. Everything in our world is ten times tougher and scarier than Ian. Why do you think Tony was never scared of him? The only thing stopping Tony from ripping out Ian’s throat the minute he say you two together was you. He thought you loved Ian and Tony would do anything to make you happy. Even if that meant watching you be with another man.”

“That makes no sense,” I complained. “Why . . .”

“It’s wouldn’t make any sense to you,” Julie turned towards the balcony and walked away from the bed.

“Thank you or sticking by my side, Travis. Everything will be taken care of tomorrow,” Tony said as he walked into the room with Travis by his side.

I didn’t watch them walk in. I was still watching Julie and I saw how her body reacted. She was tense from the conversation. But when Travis walked in I could see the muscles in her back instantly relax. She let out the breath she was holding and it was like you could see the whole motion in every muscle of her body.

“Yeah, of course,” Travis said distracted and soon he was in my view and he laid a hand on her shoulder and she shook her head. “Julie,” He breathed.

“I just . . .” She turned into his chest and he wrapped his arms around her.

“Dawn,” Tony whispered in my ear, placing a hand on my arm.

I jumped and turned to him, shocked.

“What is it?” He asked concerned.

“Nothing,” I looked to the bed and then backed to Julie and Travis, but Travis was already walking them out of the room.

“Travis, what’s wrong?” Tony stood and walked over to Them.

“I don’t . . .”

“Nothing, Tony, it’s nothing,” Julie sighed pulling away from Travis.

“It’s not nothing. You’ve been crying,” He stated. “Now tell me.”

Julie looked to me and bit her lip.

“Julie,” Tony demanded her attention.

“Our world is not meant for humans. As much as I want Dawn and you to be happy, Luna shouldn’t have made her be your mate . . .”

“Julie!” Travis growled shocked.

“She could be killed ten times easier than any one of us!” Julie complained to me.

“You have no right to question Luna or my mate,” Tony growled.

I couldn’t see his face but his whole body was rigid.

“Tony, I . . .” Julie stepped up to him but stopped.

“You told Dawn this?” He demanded.

“Tony, I . . .”

“Yes or no,” he growled.

“Yes,” She looked at the ground.

“Leave, if you were a true friend you wouldn’t have put this doubt in her mind. You should be ashamed of what you have done.” He shunned.

“Tony, it’s no big deal,” I sighed standing up.

“Dawn you shouldn’t stand on your ankle,” He picked me up and set me on the bed again.

“It’s fine, Dawn, I’m leaving,” Julie stated and then turned and walked out, Travis and Hannah following her.

“Tony, what was that about?” I asked looking up at him.

“I don’t want you to doubt that you belong here. There are many people in the pack that will be judgmental of the fact that you are human. You will need Julie and Hannah with you,” He explained.

“She has a point. They all do! How am I supposed to fit into a world as dangerous as yours when I was too weak for the human world? I nearly died before I graduated high school. I don’t know if I can last a day in your world,” I complained.

“Sorry to through this on you, but you have been a part of this world when you first started dating Ian. He is a Hunter. He lives to kill all supernatural things. That includes me,” tony stated.

“What?”

“His dad was a very intense dude. I heard he wasn’t very good to his wife and that may be what made Ian the way he is, but still. He will pay for what he has done,” He sighed and then sat on the bed beside me.

“He’s a Hunter? What does that even mean?” I gasped confused.

“Nothing. It is nothing you have to worry about yet. Let me just get through this and then everything will get back down to normal. You will be healing, Ian won’t be able to hurt you and the pack will get used to the fact you being human. Everything will be fine and once we get through this I will be able to give you a break down on everything you need to know about my world including Hunters, Wolves, Vampires and Witches. Just give me time,” He explained pulled me in to his lap carefully.

I sat for a moment trying to take it all in staring at the ground. I took a deep breath and let it out slowly dreading the question I was about to ask.

“For what?” I asked.

“What do you mean?” He replied rubbing my back.

“Time for what?” I clarified.

He stopped rubbing my back, “To kill Ian.”
