Chapter 12

Pack's Runt

Chapter 12

The black wolf.

"How do you know?"

"Because I killed them." He responded without any emotion in his voice.

I pursed my lips while staring ahead at him. It only took him a minute to kill Evan and Todd. He was the wolf that had torn through the pack house. But he left me alive. He knew I was there yet he didn't kill me. Why? He could've and tonight would've been a lot different for him. What stopped him?

I didn't think further.

Just the thought of that moment made my head warm. I sucked in a deep breath and raised my hand once more, this time keeping my eyes open. My chest rose and my finger curled around the trigger once more, this time embracing it as I recalled my pleads from that night as I begged for both of them to stop.

But they didn't and they wouldn't have.

Applying a little pressure to the trigger, the bullet snapped out of the gun, and residue projected from the bullet came in my direction. The loud sound of the gunshot echoed through the eerie silence. I moved my hand down while returning my attention back to the Alpha.

He didn't flinch, even when he had been hit. It went straight at his left shoulder. But there was no pain on his face.

Still nothing.

"Oh," Something tightened in my chest as I stepped forward and closer to him. "I'm sorry," I whispered while finding part of his black shirt becoming wet with his blood, but I couldn't see it.

"Don't be," He leaned closer before taking the gun from my hand and moving away from me. I had shot him yet he seemed so—cold. "You just made yourself worthy of my mercy." He continued while beginning to walk out of the heavy, soulless graveyard.

I blew out a breath and followed him out, knowing well I was surely going to live another day and another night before something even worse was going to be demanded. What was next? I thought to myself while sitting inside the car and wrapping my arms around myself.

It was cold and standing outside in the graveyard for nearly an hour had left me shaking as I wore nothing more than a thin dress.

The car drove across the town before returning to the same house I had left from—the whorehouse. I couldn't tell what the Alpha's intentions were, but they could never be right.

Just outside, at the courtyard, I found several men leaving after being pleasured. According to Angel, after every battle won or pack taken, the girls in the houses rewarded the men who had returned and pleasured them the whole night. It was odd yet at the same time the perfect reward these men wanted.

From the corner of my eyes, I watched the Alpha as he stepped out of the car and directed me to do the same. I followed him into the house and kept close as the crowd had only gotten worse while I was out.

There were more men, more sounds, and more booze. Wherever I looked, something or the other was happening. Hands swarming over bodies, sweat and sex in the air along with alcohol that numbed their minds. It was a sight I wanted to blink away after getting some sleep.

I assumed I was being taken back to the room where I had been taken out from, but that wasn't right. The Alpha searched around before approaching Madame Sheryl who looked a bit surprised at my return as she had just watched me leave.

The men from her side walked away and she placed her drink down on the table. "Another night, is it?" She asked the Alpha while raising one of her thin brows at him.

"Maybe even longer." The Alpha responded.

"Since she hasn't caused any trouble throughout the day, I'll keep her for as long as you want. But there'll be whispers and you know what kind of whispers I'm talking about." Madame Sheryl said while her eyes hovered over my body before returning to him. She seemed like a mischievous woman, but something told me she wasn't as cruel as the Alpha was.

"I know. It's fine, I'll take care of them." The Alpha offered her a smile before turning to wrap his hand around my wrist.

He moved toward the stairs and I followed him. My attention was diverted when I began to hear the same sounds I heard before. Moans and screams. Even the sound of music couldn't muffle the sounds of pleasure these girls made. As I moved further up the stairs, I glanced down into one of the open rooms and found a man above a girl, pounding into her as if it was the end of his life.

Some men around watched while some men didn't.

They were all hungry for something or the other. Every face and sound was different.

I snapped out of my thoughts when I felt the Alpha's fingers dig into my wrist. I flinched at the sudden ache and tried to pull away, but he didn't budge.

"Stop looking. You know I can smell it." He whispered under his breath while making his way toward the room he had forced me out from.

"What?" I furrowed my brows and asked.

"Your arousal."

I held back my gasp of surprise while pulling my hand away from him. This time, he let me go. My body went tight all of a sudden while my thoughts shifted entirely.

"How can you?" I questioned while entering the hallway which was going to lead me straight into my room.

The Alpha didn't respond and I didn't repeat it again. There was no way he could possibly smell it. I wasn't even aroused to begin with. Not exactly. Even then, he couldn't smell it unless he was far more powerful than I thought he was which wasn't possible.

The voices died down as soon as I was in the room where I had spent most of my day in. Some of the lights came switched on. I held my breath back while turning around to meet the Alpha's penetrating gaze. Blood rushed to my cheeks.

"You'll be staying here till I have other arrangements in place." He said a moment later, not even mentioning what he confessed to smelling.

"What are you going to do with me?" I asked.

His eyes clicked away from mine, "I've to think about that. In the meantime, don't cause any disturbances here. And don't run—I'll catch you every time." In the end, a small grin lightened his face.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Go ahead." He waited.

"You were in the pack house. You killed those two boys, right? Why did you kill them and not me?" I asked and then eagerly waited for his response. "You saw me. I know you did."

His mouth lined straight before he turned and reached for the door without answering my questions. I waited, but he walked out of the room leaving me to wonder—

How emotionless could one be?

As he left, I sat back down on the bed while putting my hair into a ponytail. My head, tired and exhausted, began to ache from the lack of sleep. I laid down and pulled the sheets over me before getting lost in my thoughts. For the next several minutes, I tried to make sense of what was happening.

What was wrong with the Alpha? He had forced me to shoot at him and in return, he spared my life—for now. Why? What did he want to see? Maybe whether I was courageous enough to shoot him or not. No. There was something else, something more.

"Ah, you're back!" Angel screamed while entering the room. "I thought you'd be gone forever and I'd never get to see you again." She rushed by my side and I sat up straight.

A smile fell over my face, "I guess not." I mumbled.

"Where did you go?" She asked, sounding a bit too intrigued. "Surprised you even returned. No one ever comes back when they leave here. You were gone for a while. Where did the Alpha take you?"

I cleared my throat and responded, "Nowhere."

I couldn't tell her I was taken to a graveyard and forced to stand an inch away from where I was going to be buried if I didn't show the Alpha I could shoot him with a wooden bullet. It was going to sound a bit too wild.

"Ah. Do you know if you're going stay here for long?"

"I think so," I shrugged, still not knowing what was going to happen tomorrow morning. "Maybe some more days..."

"That's great! Well, you should get some rest and I'll see you later in the morning." She gave me a cheeky smile before lifting herself off my bed and wandering back outside.
