Chapter 8
Married To My Dearest Enemy by Jared Mandel
Chapter 8
Barbara gestured toward Audrey and pursed her l*ps. âAudrey said she went on a blind date and met a rich and handsome young man.â
Tylerâs smile deepened. âMrs. Griffin, the rich and handsome young man sheâs talking about is â
âTyler,â Audrey stood up and said, âI suddenly remembered something I wanted to talk to you about. Come with me.â
After speaking, she walked out ahead.
Tyler swallowed the rest of his words. âMrs. Griffin, Iâll come back later to chat with
you.
Barbara waved her hand. âGo on. Audrey has a temper.
âWhy are you here?â Audrey asked in a low voice as soon as Tyler came out.
Tyler looked at her. âI happened to be passing by, so I came to visit Mrs. Griffin. I didnât. expect you to be here, too.â
âOh, what a coincidence.â
âWhat? Do you think I had someone follow you?â
Audrey took a deep breath. âI got fired. Did you have something to do with it? Tyler, why are you still so childish?â
Tyler frowned at her words. âWhy did you get fired?â
âYou didnât do it?â Audrey paused, unable to think of anyone else who could make the manager say such things.
âAudrey, if really wanted to retaliate against you, do you think making you lose your job would be enough?â Tyler leaned in closer. âIf I were to take action, you would be in
tears.
Audrey looked at the person suddenly approaching her and couldnât help but flash back to the image of him k*ssing her last night. She immediately pushed him away.
I do hope itâs not you.â
Tyler steadied himself âYouâd better quit that lousy job of yours. Why donât youâ¦â
âNo need,â Audrey interrupted him directly. âI donât need your pity.â
Tyler laughed. âAudrey, who said I was gonna pity you?â

âYou just said thatâ¦â
âI meant, why donât you beg me? I might give you a job, perhaps.â
Audrey knew that this person couldnât be trusted. âBeg you? Not before you beg me.
âFine, Iâm begging you.â
Audrey was at a loss for words.
The two of them stood face to face, staring at each other.
In the end, Tyler averted his gaze. âYou just wonât admit that you progress in these years, and youâre even more foolish than before.â
havenât made any
âYouâre not any better than me.â
âThen weâre even â
Audrey was no match for Tyler in terms of arguing.
She decided not to change the subject. âWhat are you here for?â
âJust passing by.â
âWell, you can leave now. Audrey turned around and prepared to go back to the hospital room.
âAudrey.â
Audrey paused for a moment but didnât turn around to look at him. She was not in the mood to quarrel with him anymore.
âDid you agree to this marriage proposal?â
The previous night, it was Audrey who asked him if their relationship was set in stone. Now, it was him asking her if she had agreed.
Audrey remained silent for a few seconds. âIf itâs a marriage alliance, then this marriage proposal is inevitable.â
However, the person he would have to marry would be Amelia, not her.
Tyler, for once, didnât think too much about it. He said in a calm tone of voice, âI see.â
Audrey didnât linger and stepped into the hospital room.
When Barbara saw Audrey entering alone, she raised her head to look at her, asking, âWhy are you alone?
Chapter 8
âWho are you looking for?â
âThat rich and handsome young man from earlier. Iâm tired of looking at you. I want to feast my eyes on a handsome young man.â
Audrey approached and sat down by the bedside. âEven if youâre tired of looking at me, you have no other choice.
âAt least they have a bit of conscience now.â
Audrey didnât respond and silently massaged Bararaâs legs.
âSo did that handsome young man agree to pay for my medical expenses after youâ¦â
âTyler,â Audrey corrected Barbara. âHis name is Tyler Russell.â
Barbara snorted. âApart from using you to pay for they get in exchange?â
my medical expenses, what else did
Barbaraâs direct words left Audrey at a loss for words.
âWhat? Donât want to hear it anymore?â
âNo, youâre speaking the truth. I have nothing to say.â Audrey paused and looked up at Barbara. âBut you know, I am quite valuable, valuable enough to pay for your medical expenses and revive the Griffin family.â
The smile on Barbaraâs face disappeared, and she looked at Audrey for a few seconds. âIâm a bit tired. You should leave and not disturb my rest.â
Watching Barbara lie back down and turn away from her, Audrey sat for a while before. getting up. âIâll come to see you another day. I need to go find a job these days.â
Naturally, Barbara didnât respond to her.
After Audrey left, Barbara sat up and sighed heavily in the direction of the door She had always been strongâwilled, and she had always found fault with Audrey, disapproving of Audrey in every way. But she didnât expect that in her twilight years, it would be Audrey, whom she didnât care for at all, who would be by her side.
Audrey had just walked out of the hospital when her phone rang.
Seeing the caller ID, Audrey initially didnât want to answer, but she decided to pick up the call after remembering what the nurse had said earlier.
âWhere are you?â Audrey heard Ameliaâs arrogant voice as soon as she answered the phone.

âWhatâs up?â
åº
âIâm coming to the hospital Wait for me over there.â
now
Audrey immediately refused her. âI donât have time.â
âAudrey, I heard what Dad said this morning. If Grandmaâs medical expenses are not paid in full, she wonât be able to get some of her medication. If you donât have time to wait for me, sheâll have even less time.â
Ameliaâs words made Audreyâs grip on her phone tighten involuntarily. âWhen are you coming?â
âJust wait for me.â Amelia hung up the phone without further explanation.
Audrey waited at the hospital entrance for a while and decided to go to the café across the street. She waited there for a full half an hour before Amelia finally arrived.
âHereâs 20 thousand dollars. Take it for now. After I settle things with Tyler, Iâll give you 200 thousand dollars.â Amelia went straight to the point.
Looking at the bank card Amelia handed her, Audrey looked at her and asked, âWhat do you take me for? A beggar?
Ameliaâs face darkened. âAudrey, donât push your luck. Who do you think you are? Iâm. already generous enough to give you 20 thousand dollars.â
Audrey looked at her calmly. âMarrying Tyler is worth more than just 20 thousand dollars.â
Hearing this, Amelia frowned and softened her tone. âDidnât I say that Iâll give you 200 thousand dollars after I settle things with Tyler?â
âIn your opinion, are the Russell family and Tyler only worth 220 thousand dollars?â
Audreyâs words made Amelia lose her patience. âWhat do you want then â
âLet me calculate it for you,â Audrey said calmly.
Amelia impatiently asked, âI donât need you to calculate anything for me. I donât owe you anything. Besides, what qualifications do you have to negotiate with me? You canât even support yourself right now. If I give you 20 thousand dollars, itâs only because of our parents.â
âHow do you know I canât support myself?â
âYou donât even have a jobâ¦â Amelia blurted out but quickly stopped herself.
