Chapter 10
Married To My Dearest Enemy by Jared Mandel
Chapter
Tyler chuckled. âAudrey, does being poor mean you donât care about your dignity anymore?â
âDo you want my dignity? I can give you some,â Audrey replied.
âI do.â Tyler reached out and pulled Audrey toward the car. âAnd I want you. Your dignity alone means nothing to me.â
Audrey was at a loss for words.
After a hearty meal, Audrey felt much better. As they walked toward the parking lot, Tyler suddenly mentioned, âYour grandmotherâs condition isnât actually that bad.â
Maybe because he had just paid for her food, Audreyâs tone was milder than before. âWhen people get old, their bodies are filled with diseases that are difficult to treat. Even if they are treated, other issues will still weigh them down.â
âTake good care of her, and sheâll be fine for another 10 years.â
Audrey thought for a moment and said seriously, âIt costs nearly 200 thousand dollars a
year.
I would have to sell myself like 10 times to cover her medical expenses if she lives another 10 years.
After a few seconds of silence, Tyler said, âIf you insist on saying that, actually you only need to sell yourself once, and youâll get a lifetime of privileges.â
âHuh?â Audrey didnât understand and looked at him with a puzzled expression.
Meeting Audreyâs confused gaze, Tylerâs fingers curled slightly at his side. He raised his hand and lightly tapped Audreyâs head, saying, âYouâre not worth that much money.â
Audrey wanted to retort, but considering that he had just paid for her meal, she decided not to argue. âYouâre right.â
They arrived at the car, and Tyler opened the door for Audrey to get in the passenger
seat.
Tyler drove Audrey to the entrance of the Griffin familyâs home and turned to her while she was unfastening her seatbelt. âMy mom wants you to come over for dinner tomorrow. Do you have time?â
Audrey paused for moment and then unfastened her seatbelt before looking at him. âTomorrow? When?
âEither noon or evening.â Tyler paused for a moment. âMorning will do.â

Audrey shook her head. âAre you crazy? Going for dinner in the morning?
âThen how about noon? Iâll pick you up.â Tyler decided on the time directly.
D
âNoon wonât work.â She had to go and look for a job tomorrow. She couldnât just wait around with nothing to do.
âThen evening.â
Audrey hesitated for a moment before asking, âCan I not go?â
âNo, you canât.â
Audrey nodded. Then evening it is. Iâll go back now.â
Tyler watched Audrey enter the house before driving away.

âWho brought you back just now? Was it Tyler?â As soon as Audrey entered the house, Emma rushed up and asked anxiously.
Audrey nodded. âWe had dinner together in the evening.â
Emma immediately became unhappy. âDidnât you dislike him? Did you not listen to what said last night? If you donât like him, then donât bother him and toy with his feelings.â
Audrey bent down to change her shoes. âIt was you who forced me to go on that blind date in the first place. Didnât I say I didnât want to go? Later, you used Grandma to threaten me into meeting his parents. It was almost a done deal. And now youâre telling me not to bother him? Youâve already said everything, so what else can I say?â
âWhat do you mean by that? Are you blaming me?â Emma raised her voice. âDidnât you say that you donât like him?â
âI did say it before, but nowâ¦â Audrey didnât finish her sentence and deliberately paused.
Emma became anxious. âBut now?â
âNow I suddenly think that if I marry Tyler, I can not only solve Grandmaâs medical expenses, but I can also do whatever I want like before. Thinking about it, itâs not a bad idea, right?â
âYou⦠You canât marry Tyler!â Emma exclaimed sternly. âYour sister finally meets someone she likes. How can you compete with her?â
Audrey burst into laughter. âDo I have to give up on him just because she likes him?â

âSheâs your sister!â

âSo what if sheâs my sister? Just because sheâs my sister doesnât mean I have to give up. everything for her.â Audreyâs tone turned completely cold. âMom, ask yourself honestly, what makes Amelia better than me? Why do you and Dad favor her so much?â
âWhat makes you better than Amelia? You know very well what you did when we asked you to study hard,â Emma retorted.
âAt that timeâ¦â Audrey started to speak but suddenly felt that arguing like this was. meaningless.
âYeah, you are right. Iâm not as good as Amelia. All she needs to do is make you happy, and in that aspect, I can never compete with her.â Audrey finished speaking and lifted. her foot to leave. After taking a few steps, she stopped. âIf you really want Amelia to marry Tyler, itâs best to make her behave and also make sure to pay Grandmaâs medical expenses on time. Otherwise, I donât know what outrageous things I might do.â
âOutrageous things? Yeah, exactly. Youâre being outrageous right now. Are you threatening me?â Emma angrily questioned.
âJust consider it as me threatening you,â Audrey said calmly. âAfter all, Iâm the one who went on a blind date with Tyler, and Iâm the one who went to meet his parents in the name of a potential fiancée. As long as Iâm willing, Amelia will never have a chance to marry Tyler.â
With those words, Audrey went back to her room.
After closing the door, Audrey felt deflated and sat down on the floor, leaning against the door. She had never imagined that one day, Tyler would become her shield.
Early the next morning, Audrey went out to continue her job search. The difficulty level was still the same before.
After leaving the interview store, Audreyâs gaze was drawn to a piano in a nearby shop window. She stood in front of the window for a long time, imagining herself sitting at the piano, with her fingers on the keys.
She had excelled in playing the piano in the past, but her passion was stifled on the path of growth because of Ameliaâs preference.
âHello, would you like to buy a piano?â The salesperson inside appeared next to Audrey at some point.
Audrey snapped out of her thoughts and shook her head gently. âI was just lookingâ¦â Her words trailed off as/her eyes fell on a recruitment notice posted nearby. âDo you need a piano teacher here?â

The salesperson nodded. âYes, our previous piano teacher left due to her pregnancy, so thereâs a vacancy.â
Audrey hesitated and asked, âCan I give it a try?â
âNo problem. Please follow me.â
Audrey was actually quite nervous. It had been a long time since she had played the piano.
After sitting down, Audrey took a deep breath and mentally went through the motions. of playing the piano several times before placing her hands on the keys.
âMr. Russell, isnât thatâ¦â David tried to say something, but Tyler raised his hand to stop him, his deep gaze fixed on Audrey sitting at the piano. âShe plays the
piano beautifully.â
David didnât know how to respond for a moment and simply stood silently on the side, not wanting to disturb.
The enchanting sound of the piano instantly captivated many passersâby. They all stopped in their tracks.
Tyler looked at Audrey, who was immersed in her performance, with a softened gaze.
When the music stopped, Tyler snapped back to reality and whispered to David, âKeep her. Pay her the normal salary.â
David nodded. âYes, sir.â
