Chapter 394
The Beginning Of All Sins
Olivia was worried she would anger Ana more so she stayed upstairs.
The only way she managed to endure those days was by repeatedly gazing at her sonâs ultrasound.
She was hoping every day would pass sooner.
Katrina was following the news about the Harrises and felt sorry.
While having lunch with Sophie at home, she asked, âSoof, is what theyâre saying about Olivia true?â
Sophie heard her auntâs question, her hand halting midâair. She glanced at Katrina with an awkward expression and replied, âI donât think soâ¦â
Katrina persisted, âWho would dare to spread rumors about the Harrises? Itâs truly unfortunate. I initially thought highly of the girl when I first met her, even envisioned her marrying Claude. But I suppose that wonât happen now.â She sighed. âWhat a shame.â
Sophie fell silent, unsure of how to respond. Katrina pressed further, âYouâre friends with her. Do you know who the man is?â
Katrina was interested in the gossip because the Harrises rarely had issues like this. She recalled Ana proudly introducing her daughterâinâlaw at events.
Now, in light of recent events, Ana had become a subject of ridicule. Katrina was determined not to let her off the hook.
Sophieâs heart skipped a beat. She still didnât know how to answer.
If she told Katrina that the man was Claude, what would she think?
As Sophie contemplated her response, Claude descended the stairs and picked up newspaper from the table, saying, âMorning.â
the Sophie noticed Claudeâs attireâa white shirt paired with grey pants, resembling a serene moon in his lightâcolored clothing.
Sophie didnât reply, but Katrina said, âYouâve been very busy recently. Did you just get up?â
Claude flipped through the newspaper and said, âJust done with my workout.â
Claude didnât have a habit of sleeping in, so when Katrina heard that, she said, âYou should get enough rest. Although taking over the family business could be timeâconsuming, you should take care of your health.â
Claude put the paper down and smiled at his mother. âDonât worry, Iâm young and strong. I wonât overwork myself.â
Claude was a lot like his mother. Because Katrina was a gentle soul, their family had always been peaceful.
Amidst their conversation, the sound of a car pulling in signaled Jordanâs return. He parked and walked to the table, and Katrina greeted him, âJordan, what brings you home?â
Jordan didnât look at her and just stared at Claude. âWhat happened at the board meeting?â
He hadnât been there when Claude called for the meeting.
Claude put down the newspaper and replied, âThe restructuring didnât pass.â
