Chapter 370
The Beginning Of All Sins
In the vice presidentâs office of Yancey Bank, Claude sat at his desk, watching as Sophie entered.
âWhatâs going on. Soof?â He looked calm.
Sophie asked, âHave you not seen the news?â
Of course, he had. A newspaper lay on his desk, but his expression hardened at her words. âI have.â
Sophie replied, âDo you have feelings for her?â
Claude placed his hands on the desk, his demeanor gentle yet firm. âThis is none of your business, Soof.â
Sophie knew that Claude would havenât paid so much attention to Olivia if he didnât have feelings for her.
She recalled how differently he treated Olivia from their first meeting.
She had even hoped they might end up together, until Oliviaâs sudden marriage to Tyler dashed those hopes. But now?
Sophieâs worry deepened due to Oliviaâs ambiguous relationship with her cousin.
âWhy was she captured then?â
The rest of them were there too.
Claude thought about that too, so he said, âIâm looking into it.â
âYou didnât do this?â
âWhy would you think I did this?â

People might speculate that Claude was coercing Olivia, but only he knew it was a distraction, orchestrated by someone cleverly protecting themselves.
Considering this, Claude raised his brows thoughtfully. After a moment, he withdrew his hands and said, Iâm trying to determine how this happened. Go home for now.â
âBut I canât get in touch with Olivia. Is this affecting you and Olivia?â
Though Claudeâs face was blurred, those familiar with them could likely guess his identity, especially the Harrises.
If they knew, Tyler would be the first to find out, and Sophie dreaded what might follow.
âIâll get in touch with her. Donât worry.â
Claude picked up the coffee cup and took a whiff of the aroma.
A knock interrupted them, and Sophie turned to see Jacob Reeves at the door. âSophie, stop pestering your cousin.â
Jacob had been there when Sophie left home, and now he had come after her.
Sophie stood, meeting Jacobâs gaze. After a tense silence, Claude addressed Jacob. âTake her home.â
Jacob would follow all of Claudeâs requests, so he said, âYes, sir.â
He then entered the office and grabbed Sophieâs arm. She couldnât do anything but just follow him out of the office.
