The Beginning Of All Sins
Olivia felt sad when she heard that news. It reminded her of the time her grandmother passed away.
She looked at Claude and asked, âAre you okay, Claude?â
Claude kept smiling, a comforting kind of smile. âIâm fine. It happens, you know? He had a long life, so I think itâs better just to accept it.â
Olivia was happy to hear he was taking it well. âThatâs good to hear.â
Then Claude looked at her with a curious gaze. âBut what about you? Why are you here all by yourself?â
Olivia might have wanted someone to talk to, but she didnât find anyone. Thatâs why she asked her driver to bring her here.
She didnât tell him that, though. Instead, she said quietly, âI just felt like coming here.â
Claude didnât press her further. With a smile, he asked, âWhatâs up with your phone? I couldnât reach you.â
Suddenly remembering, Olivia quickly explained, âOh, Claude, I meant to tell you. My phone and SIM card are busted, which is why I couldnât text you back.â
He frowned. âTheyâre broken?â
She nodded. âMmâhmm.â
He remembered Tyler had her phone the last time he called. He looked at her for a moment without saying anything.
Feeling his stare, Olivia asked, âWhatâs wrong, Claude?â
âNothing.â Claude laughed it off. He obviously didnât believe her phone just broke on its Own.
He looked at her again. âYou seem upset. Whatâs bothering you?â
Olivia didnât answer.
âWhat is it? Can you tell me?â
Olivia just stood there, feeling awkward and unsure of what to say.
Claude kept asking gently, âAre the Harrises treating you well?â
Tel 289 Finally, she nodded. âTheyâre⦠quite good to me.â
âWhat about Tyler?â
When Claude mentioned Tyler, Olivia went silent. He noticed her reaction and stared at her.
âIâve got a problem, Claude,â she said.
He waited patiently, already guessing it had something to do with Tyler.
âIs there a way for me to avoid someone?â Olivia looked desperate for an answer Claude was a smart man. He understood a lot without her having to say it. âYou just need to be strong and stand up for yourself,â he answered.
Olivia felt helpless, lost, and hurt. She didnât know how to be strong.
Claude encouraged her, âAll you need to do is focus on yourself and the baby. Anything else, including the babyâs father, has nothing to do with you.â
Olivia had been trying to tell herself the same thing, but her feelings for Tyler kept getting in the way.
She was worried.
Suddenly, Claude gently held her face, looking into her eyes. âThereâs a way out. You canâ¦
He paused, then continued, âFall for someone else.â
His eyes had a tempting look, reminding her of a story where someone is tempted to make a choice they hadnât considered before.
