Chapter 217
The Beginning Of All Sins
In this luxury store, the Harrises were the only ones who could ask people from the Pearces to give up something for them.
Sophie was at a loss for words when the store worker spoke to her.
Olivia held Tylerâs hand. âNever mind. I donât like it anyway.â
Hearing Oliviaâs words, Tyler handed the bag back to the store worker. He said, with a hint of coldness, âHmm, letâs go home since you donât like it.â
Linda, carrying shopping bags, made her way to the door.
âLetâs get going,â Tyler told Olivia.
He walked to the door, and Olivia followed beside him. Colleen, also laden with shopping bags, said in a muffled voice, âTyler, you have to bring me back here when they have new stuff.â
As Tyler and Olivia were leaving, Tyler turned to Sophie and said, âIâm sorry, Sophie. I didnât realize it was yours. I shouldâve asked. Itâs not right to take what someone else loves. I owe you one.â
His manners were impeccable.
Sophie was too intimidated to really accept his apology. âIâItâs fine, Mr. Tyler. If Olivia wants it, she can have it,â she stuttered.
âThereâs no need. Iâll find her something else,â Tyler assured.
Sophie replied awkwardly, âOâOkay, Mr. Tyler.â
He continued on his way out, with Olivia following.
Sophie stood still, then asked, âDâDid the employee say Olivia is Tylerâs wife?â
Jacob clenched his fists, his face grim.
After walking a bit, Tyler glanced at Olivia, who seemed unfazed and calm. He then looked away, thinking she had gotten over her past issues with Jacob.
Curious, Colleen asked in the car, âWho were they, Tyler?â
âYou donât know them,â Tyler said flatly.
âOf course I donât know them. Thatâs why I asked,â Colleen thought. But she got the hint that he didnât want to talk about it.
Sophie was still stunned, while Jacobâs anger was building up.
She looked up. âWhatâs wrong, Jacob?â
He glanced at her and replied, âNothing. Letâs go.â
But Sophie stopped him. âWhat happened with Olivia? How did she become Tylerâs wife? Wasnât his fiancee supposed to be her sister, Naomi?â
She sensed Jacob knew something.
âDidnât you know that she fell for him? She got what she wanted and is now his wife. Why else would she leave me?â Jacob remarked bitterly.
He scoffed, âWhat a b*tch⦠Itâs just like something an illegitimate child would do. After all, wasnât her mom a mistress too?â
Seeing Jacob get more upset, Sophie tried to calm him down. âJacob⦠How can you talk about Olivia like that?â
âAre you defending her?â
She held his hand. âNo.â
Jacob caressed her cheek. âSoof, youâve shown me how beautiful a person can be, unlike her.â
Sophie felt herself drawn to Jacob even more, despite the pain of hearing such things about Olivia, her best friend.
So, to him, she was beautiful.
When Tyler and Olivia got home, Tyler had a maid take their purchases upstairs.
âThank you, Tyler,â Olivia said to him.
