Chapter 51
That night, Serenity was back at her place having dimer with Jackson when someone kicked on her door.
She was mildly taken aback since no one lund ever come to her place and lunched on her door before. Could it be her father, stepmother, and sister coming to cause trouble again?!
But when she opened the door, she was surprised to find that the person standing outside was Peter Wall. He was wearing a black padded jacket, and his face was slightly flushed red. He looked at Serenity while seerning a little embarrassed as he told
her. âL.â
Just as he opened his mouth to speak, he noticed Jackson walking up behind Serenity, and this made him stop speaking abruptly as if he was hesitant to speak.
Jackson stared straight at the man standing outside the door. He remembered the man to be one of Serenityâs colleagues at the Sanitation Office and that he seemed to be interested in Serenity.
âWhat are you doing here?â he asked Peter, âDo you need my sister for something?
ââ¦â Peter replied, blushing, âIâve got something to tell Serenity, and Iâd like to talk to her privately.â
He then turned to Serenity and added, âCan I talk to you alone, Serenity?â
Jackson frowned slightly. He did not like the casual tone the man used to speak tu Serenity.
Serenity was about to answer when Jackson interrupted, âWhat are you going to talk about? Why canât you just speak to her here?â
Well. Peter hesitated
âWhatever it is,â Serenity interceded, âjust get straight to the point and say it, Peter.â
âSerenity, L⦠I just wanted to tell you that I donât mind the fact that you used to be in prison. I really do like you, and Iâd like you in be my girlfriend. I⦠I can wait for you. As long as youâre not interested in anyone else yet, Iâll wait for you.â
Peter blurted it all out in one breath, almost as if it took him all the courage he had to say those words.
Serenity froze in a daze. She did not expect Peter to say such things at all.
Peter continued, âIâm also aware that Iâm just a lowly driver now, but I promise that Iâll work very hard to provide for my family. I just want to make you happy.ââ
After finishing his sentence, he did not wait for Serenityâs response before adding, âIâll give you time to think about it.â
Then, he fed the scene.
Serenity stood rooted to the spot, staring at the man who was hurrying away. She only came back to her senses when Jackson put an arm around her waist and pulled her inside the room, slamading the door behind them shut..
âWhat are youâ¦â Before she could finish her sentence, he pinned her against the door, leaned down toward her, and stared piercingly at her with his dark eyes.
âWhat are you thinking about, Sis?â
âNothingâ she replied. They were too close to each other that she found it overwhelming. âLet go of me.â
Jackson acted if he had not heard her. In fact, his face inched even closer to her, so close that his lips brushed her ears ever so slightly when he asked her, âAre you moved by what that guy just told you?â
Moved? She was not sure about that, but she was certainly surprised. After all, she was convinced that after hearing about her tainted past, Peter would undoubtedly give up his feelings for her.
But not only did he not give up on her, he even carne straight to her place and said all those things to her.
Very few people would treat someone who had been in prison before so respectfully the way he did.
Chapter 51
Jacksonâs eyebrows knitted in response to her silence. He hated to see her think about another man. For some reason, this made him feel extremely uncomfortable.
