Chapter 324
Serenityâs first reaction was the thought that Jackson might attack that small restaurant. If he could destroy an upâand- coming company to the point of bankruptcy, there was certainly no limit to what he could do to that small restaurant.
âNoâ¦â she stammered. âNo, 1 never thought of it that way.â
She did not want to see the small restaurant suffer because of her. Besides, she could tell that Clare was a decent person, and she even had a disabled son to take care of, so Serenity was sure that Clare must have a lot of burdens to bear.
âThatâs good, then,â Jackson smiled. âSo just keep on living here and donât worry about anything.â
Serenity pursed her lips and said nothing.
Jackson took her hands and placed her palms against his cheeks.
âSince you insist on finding your own job,â he said, âIâll give in and let you have your way. But remember, no matter how late you get home, you must wish me good night every day, okay?â
She was slightly stunned, having never expected that he would make such a weird request.
Saying good night to him⦠was something that she used to do every day when they lived together in that rental room. But that was because he was her only family back then and because he was the only one she believed she could rely on.
But⦠was he still her family now?
His cheeks rubbed against the palms of her hand gently. He closed his eyes slowly, and his lips gradually curled up into a smile. He looked perfectly content.
The next day, Serenity showed up punctually at the small restaurant with her identification documents in hand. Clara did the necessary paperwork and then gave Serenity the rough guidelines for the job before allocating an electric scooter to her.
âYou can use this scooter to commute to and from work as well, she told Serenity, then suddenly thought of a question she should have asked sooner. âBy the way, do you know how to ride it?
âYes,â Sercity replied, then honestly added, âbut I havenât ridden one for a few years now. I should be able to do it just fine after practicing for a little while.â
âGood,â Clara said, âThen go ahead and practice a little. By the way, you know youâve been in a tragic car crash before, so you must be very careful on the road, okay? Donât ever exceed the speed limits just to rush the deliveries. Iâd rather you be careful
means youâre a little late with the deliveries. Itâs for your own good and for everyone elseâs as well.â
âokay,â Serenity answered. She then assured Clara, âI understand and Iâll always remember it, Clare. Iâll be very careful and never exceed the speed limit.
âGood!â Clara smiled. âWell, thatâs it, then. Youâll get paid on the 15th day of every month. Iâll cover your basic insurance as well. You can always come to me if you have any questions.â
âOkay.â
Just then, she could feel someone hugging her leg tightly. She looked down and saw that beautiful cherubic face again. She recalled how Clare had called the boy âYannyâ yesterday.
Clare then called out to her sur while signing with her hands to say âCome here, Yanny!â.
However, the boy only clung onto Serenityâs leg even more tightly now. He even looked up at her in fascination, paying no mind at all to his own mother.
Clare walked up and tried to pull her son away, but she realized that the boy would not come with her quietly as he always did usually, but on the contrary, he held onto Serenityâs leg even more firmly now.
