Chapter 114
âBut..The clothes youâre wearing are.â
He seemed to only realize then that he had been wearing the same
Jack would never have been able to afford any of these cloth clothes he was when having dinner with Zack last night.
Still, after all that had transpired last night, he no longer planned to hide his true identity anymore, especially considering he had to reveal it to her eventually, anyway. What difference would it make if she found out a little earlier now?
Besides, it would be easier for him to keep her under his wing of protection once she learned who he really was
âEven if my clothes are different,â he smiled at her and asked her, âIâm still the same Jack, arenât I?â
By that point, even if Serenity had been a romplete idiot, she would still have easily detected something wrong and realized that the truth had not been as she imagined.
âYouâre not homeless?â
âNo,â he confessed.
âThen.. Then why did you pretend to be homeless?â
She started to feel as if she had been fooled all along. Her eyes widened as they stared fixedly at him, and her hands gripped the blanker on her body tightly, her fingers trembling slightly.
The little brother she had always assumed to be innocent and helpless turned out to be someone else entirely. It tumed our that it had all just been her own fantasy from the start.
Lisa had been right. She had taken Jack home without pausing to think, without even knowing him one bit.
And what about him? If he was not homeless, why would he ever stay with her in that small and shabby room? Did those days he had spent living with her even mean anything to him?
âI didnât pretend to be homeless,â argued Jackson. âIt was you who assumed that I was. I just didnât correct you, thatâs all.â
For a second, Serenity found it hard to breathe and had no idea how to refute him.
âThen..â she started again, her eyes fixed on him, âthen why did you live with me? You clearly have a home to go back to!â
âBecause it felt good whenever I was with you. Besidesâ¦â
As he spoke, he raised a hand to gently smooth over her messy hair and added, âBack then, it was you who clearly stated that you wanted me to stay, which was why I stayed. Donât you remember?
Serenity bit her lips, and her face went pale before it turned red.
He was right. It was indeed her who had started it all!
She peeled the blanket off of her body and got out of bed, trying to leave the room, but just as her feet touched the floor, her whole body pave way, and she almost fell forward. It was as if both of her legs had turned into jelly with no strength left in them.
Jackson quickly reached out his arm and caught her before sh
âThe drugâs effect on your body hasnât completely worn off yet,â he told her. Youâve been through so much last night, itâs only natural that thereâd be no strength left in your body now.
His words were a rude awakening of what had happened to her yesterday.
Yesterday, she.. had been drugged by her uncles and his family, and then.. her two uncles had taken her to Felix Fosterâs
house
Serenityâs face turned pale and pasty as she recalled what had happened next, She⦠She had been shoved Into Felixâs room and then⦠They had locked the door. Following that, Felix had barged into the room and charged at herâ¦.
âLast night, was T..â
Her lips trembled as her body quivered all over.
Jackson looked down at the woman in his arms. At that moment, she seemed like a helpless small creature, so fragile and vulnerable.. He could no longer deny that seeing her in such a state truly tugged at his heartstrings.
