Chapter 6
Marrying
Chapter 6
âHow dare you t
talk to me
to me like that!â Isabel spat, visibly lividl
âTin just spitting facts!â Katherine shot back.
Their squabble drew stares from everyone around. Dylan Hart, the manager, stepped out of his office, clearly annoyed. âWhatâs all this about?â
Valerie quickly stepped in front of Katherine, not wanting her to take the heat on her behalf.
âMr. Hart, âValerie began. Thandled that deal from start to finish. Why is it suddenly being handed over to Isabel!â
Dylan responded coolly, âHereâs the deal: you stepped out of line. Those clients came in an hour before and Isabel was initially helping them. Just because she stepped out for lunch and you closed the deal, doesnât mean it was your sale. Itâs only fair it goes back to her.â
With Dylanâs support, label puffed up, defiant. âExactly! If you have a problem. Valerie, why not check the surveillance footage!â
Valerie knew the real story. Those clients had been referred by a former customer specifically for her and had even waited for her arrival before they started looking at cans. Grateful for their trust, she was now just disgusted by the duoâs audacity,
Dylan continued, âLetâs drop it for today. Valerie, Iâm not going to hold this against you considering your track record.â
âMr. Hart Valerie interrupted, her voice calm but firm. âJust to confirm, youâre definitely giving my sale to Isabellâ
âYes!â Dylan faltered under her stern gaze, momentarily surprised by her intensity, âI never knew Valerie could be this commanding he thought. But before he could elaborate, Valerie had turned and walked away.
Katherine hurried to catch up with Valerie, overhearing Isabel and Dylanâs mocking laughter. âIsabelâs laugh is so loud like she is making damn sure everyone knows sheâs cozy with Dylan. And she accuses you of getting by on your looks? What about her, getting by on her⦠whatever? And if Dylan hadnât been parachuted in, youâd be the one running the office!â
âKatherineâ Valerie cut in sharply. âNow that Dylan is our boss, you really shouldnât talk like that. Itâs too easy to rub people the wrong way.â
Tine. But Valerie, theyâve crossed the line. Shouldnât we take this to Mr. Moreno?â
Valerie shook her head. âDylan was placed here by the Noris Group. Our general manager at Arcion wouldnât dare cross himâ
Katherine was frustrated. âSo we just let this slide?â
Valerie raised an eyebrow, silent for a moment, but her mind was working overtime. She wasnât interested in whatever Isabel and Dylan were scheming, Normally, she could overlook their pettiness. But block my income! Thatâs like declaring war, Valerie thought fiercely.
Behind them. Isabel was gleefully thanking Dylan, practically melting into his arms as he chuckled and gave her a playful squeeze. However, his eyes couldnât help but follow Valerie as she walked away.
Dylan was no stranger to flirty women like Isabel, but it was Valerieâs rare combination of beauty and a cool demeanor that intrigued him.
He knew she came from a humble background, and it baffled him how someone from such a modest upbringing could carry herself with such poise. âHow did she manage to turn out so classy from all that he wondered.
Dylanâs thoughts raced, and he became more determined to put Valerie in her place, thinking. Once Isabel has poached all of Valerieâs clients, sheâll be begging me for help, be thought smugly.
Bun Dylan was in for a shock. Just days later, as he was about to leave work, his phone rang. It was a call from his boss at Noria Group, unleashing a torrent of criticism. He berated Dylan for abusing his power and not keeping his personal involvements professional
Catching his breath, Dylan asked how his boss had found out
âNow youâre worried! One of your subordinates went straight to Mr. Grant with a complaint. He told me about it! IF I hadnât vouched for you, youâd already be out, his boss shouted over the phone.
The âMr. Grantâ he was talking about was the formidable new CEO of Noria Group who was not someone to be crossed.
Dylanâs face drained of color. He couldnât believe Valerie had the guts to go directly to him. âHow does she even know Mr. Grant! Could there be something between them? His mind raced with unsettling thoughts.
Dylan knew well that angering that new CEO meant more than losing his job. It could ruin his career in Kranson City.
âConsider this a warning. Straighten up and be more careful from now on his boss warned sharply.
With shaking legs, Dylan quickly agreed and, without a second thought, ordered label to return all of Valerieâs client information.

Isabel, clueless about the gravity of the situation and unwilling to comply at first, changed her tune when Dylan, usually so lenient, erupted in anger. Frightened, she had no choice but to follow his orders.
âWhat about the rest?â Valerie asked coolly as she flipped through the files, her smile not quite reaching her eyes. âTsabel, youâve stolen three of my clients this month. I expect the rest of the documents and information to be ready when I come in tomorrow morning
âValerie! Cut it out. Do you think youâre the CEOâs wife or something? Donât push it!â Isabel snapped, rolling her eyes.
