Chapter 25
Marrying
Chapter 25
Valerie sped along, trying to make it to the office on time but still a few minutes late. She hurried inside the office building when she accidentally bumped into label
Isabel was still dressed in her glamorous outfit, with an arrogant look. When she saw Valerie, she couldnât help but say in a sarcastic tone. âHey, look who is it! Is in Valerie! Dylan asked us to get to work on time, but youâre late. Looks like you really donât take Dylan seriouslyâ¦â
Before she could finish her sentence, she was knocked right out of the way by Katherine from behind.
Katherine rolled her eyes nonchalantly âYeah, we know youâre the best staff here and youâre the one who takes Dylan seriously and takes him into your room and on your bed. Youâre not afraid that Dylan will fuck you to death sooner or later?â
âKatherine, watch your language,â Tubel shouted angrily.
âDid I say anything wrongâ Every word I say is the truth. Why should
should I watch my language!â
Katherineâs words struck a nerve with Isabel, causing her face to visibly pale with anger. Feeling all eyes on her, Isabel decided it was best to beat a hasty retreat, stomping off angrily in her high heels to avoid making a scene,
Katherine watched Isabel slink off with a satisfied smirk, then turned her gize to Valerie. âPeople like her need to be taken down a peg by others. If she dares to get snarky with you next time, just give me the word. I be happy to put her in her place
Valerie smiled, amused by Katherineâs protectiveness. Though younger, Katherine was Bercely defensive of her, afraid Valerie might be bullied by
the likes of label.
âThank you, Katherine. But you donât really have to offend Isabel for me,â said Valerie. She wasnât
the type to let herself be pushed around either.
âNonsense, your troubles are my troubles.â Katherine waved her off. âBesides, if it werenât for you bailing out Caleb last time, he would have lost a lot of monry
Idenly noticed something off about Valerieâs wrist. âHold on, how did you manage to hurt
Katherine was in the middle of her spiel when she suddenly yourself?****
âJust a minor incident, nothing to worry about. Valerie rushed to downplay it, not wanting Katherine to fuss. âIâll just pop into the changing room and get changed.â Valerie was grateful to have a spare outfit on hand for such occasions.
However, Valerie soon realized her injury w
was more serious than she had initially thought. As she removed her clothing, she saw that her elbows had been deeply scraped by the gravel, leaving two nastyâlooking wounds. No wonder the pain had been so intense.
Valerie steeled herself and sterilized the cuts with alcohol before covering them with sterile cloths. When she came out of the changing room, she found that all her coworkers had arrived. It seemed they had been summoned to a companywide meeting at headquarters, with each branch required to send two representatives
Dylan named Isabel as one of the attendees. Just as he was about to randomly select the second representative, Will Moreno, the companyâs general manager unexpectedly nominated Valerie as well
âValerieâs going too?â Dylan was a bit surprised.
Will smiled. âValerie was last yearâs top seller and also the representative of our Arcton Cars. Itâs appropriate for her to attendâ
Although Dylan didnât hold Mr. Moreno in particularly high regard, he knew he had to show some outward deference. More pressingly, Valerieâs complaint letter from last time had brought Matthew in person, making Dylan wary of offending her further.
The car arrived at the meeting site and label was full of resentment all the way. She begged Dylan for a long time to get this place, but she didnât expect Valerie to get another place easily
âYou usually pretend to be very simple. I canât believe youâre actually scheming. I bet you sweet talked Mr. Moreno into sending you here, all so you could try to land a rich guy, am I right?â
Valerie feigned a look of surprise. âSo thatâs your game plan â to snag a rich man? Well, you better hurry up then. If you donât, all the eligible bachelors will be snatched up by the other women.â
âYouâ Label sputtered angrily, but Valerie had already turned on her heel and walked off, no longer entertaining the confrontation.
However, as Valerie ventured further into the conference hall, she finally understood why label was so hellâbent on securing a spot at this event.
It was clear this was less a typical corporate meeting and more of a highâsociety soiree. The Noria Group headquarters was hosting, and in addition to the branch office personnel, they had also invited a veritable whoâs who of local social elites. The lavish decor left no doubt this was an occasion of the utmost prestige.
