Chapter 16
Marrying
Chapter 16
Matthew ut in the backseat of the Porsche, frowning. The Mini walled a few times on the road, and Matthewâs patience wore off. He asked Charles to pick him up. His time had been wasted on the road. When he was finally close to the company, the car was rearâended. This really put Matthew
Matt saw a young man in a trendy outfit getting out of the MMW from the rearview mirror. He looked like some frivolous twentyâsomething and didnât seem to take the accident seriously. But then he saw the Porsche logo, and his face went pale. Matthew signaled to Charles to handle it. Caleb was responsible for the crash and had to pay for the damages. Charles told him it would set him back 16 thousand dollars to fix the Porsche.
When Caleb heard the number, he freaked out. He made a decent amount of money but was not able to save much. He drove a BMW, but it was. the cheapest model and only cost around 40 thousand dollars. That was hardly enough to buy a tire for a Porsche. He still owed money on the BMW loan and couldnât afford 16 thousand dollars.
Matthew actually did this on purpose. He didnât care about the money but would love to teach a frivolous young man a lesson.
Just then, he heard Charles saying, âMr. Grant, that seems to be Miss Warren. She just got out of the car,â
The familiar name caught Matthewâs attention. He looked in the rearview mirror and saw a woman in a white shirt and black skirt. It was Valerie.
âWhatâs she doing there?â he thought, his eyes genting cold.
Valerie checked out the dent on the Porsche, took some quick pics, and made some calls. âCalm down,â she said to Caleb, who was freaking out
Then, with a smile, she went up to Charles and said, âSir, weâre sorry about the crash. Weâre down to pay for the damage, but 16 thousand dollars is way too much. I have a friend who works at the Porsche Service Center. Can we send your car over there? Weâll cover the bill no worries. You know thereâs always a line for Porsche repairs. But donât you worry, I have your car back to you in two days tops, so we donât cause you any more trouble. We really appreciate it if you could say yes to thisâ She said it with a big smile and a logical mindset without sounding arrogant or timid.
Charles was hesitant. Then, a slender, bony hand stuck out of the window and did a little wave. It was obviously a manâs hand. The simple movement was somehow eyeâcatching. Charlesâs attitude became soft, and Valerie knew the one sitting in the backseat owned the Porsche. She nodded slightly toward the rearview mirror to thank him, regardless of whether he could see her or not
âOur president has an important meeting later,â said Charles.
Sure, no problem. Iâve already talked to my friend at the Porsche Service Center, and youâre always welcome there. This is my personal business card, so feel free to contact me with any issuesâValerie smiled and handed over her business card.
Back in the car, Charle couldnât help but joke. âI didnât expect you to be kind to a woman, Mr. Grantâ
Matthew narrowed his eyes and said, âYouâre playing with fire, Charles.â
Charles felt a chill down his spine and sat up with his mouth shut
Matthew looked at the rearview mirror again. He didnât mean to help Valerie out, but the meeting was about to begin. And he didnât want Valerie to walk up and see his face.
He was slightly impressed by her just now. Despite the troubling situation, she managed to remain calm, smiling, and organized. Instead of panicking, she focused on finding a solution as if she would never freak out
âWhy was she in that BMW? And that man⦠Matthew thought. He saw that tall man staring at Valerie. Manhewâs eyes darkened.
