âHey, wait, wait.â he said, cutting me off again with outstretched hands.
âWe started off so much better than this⦠so can we just get back to that? Look, I realize that I havenât delivered the best impression of myself so far. I use this trick on Humans to get what I need for my stories â which is why I acted like a jerk and underestimated you. Youâre new here, and I thought youâd be⦠well⦠easy.â
âEasy interview or an easy meal?â I said.
âBoth,â he replied, reigniting the initial spark of interest I had had in him. âBut, about thirty-seconds ago, I figured out honesty is probably the best policy when it comes to you, so Iâve decided to try it.â
âWell, I appreciate that,â I replied, beginning to edge my way around him. The clock had begun ticking again, louder this time. âAnd maybe Iâll give you that interview over a make-up dinner sometime â your treat?â
âIâd like that,â he said. âIâll hold you to it.â
âBut in the in the meantime, letâs try to keep that little story of yours less scathing, more praising. Hmm?â
His grin was answer enough.
