Chapter Fifteen - Part Four

“That’s better. But I’ve got things to do and you to ignore, so see let’s not do this again –”

“Hey, wait, wait.” he said, cutting me off again with outstretched hands.

“We started off so much better than this… so can we just get back to that? Look, I realize that I haven’t delivered the best impression of myself so far. I use this trick on Humans to get what I need for my stories – which is why I acted like a jerk and underestimated you. You’re new here, and I thought you’d be… well… easy.”

“Easy interview or an easy meal?” I said.

“Both,” he replied, reigniting the initial spark of interest I had had in him. “But, about thirty-seconds ago, I figured out honesty is probably the best policy when it comes to you, so I’ve decided to try it.”

“Well, I appreciate that,” I replied, beginning to edge my way around him. The clock had begun ticking again, louder this time. “And maybe I’ll give you that interview over a make-up dinner sometime – your treat?”

“I’d like that,” he said. “I’ll hold you to it.”

“But in the in the meantime, let’s try to keep that little story of yours less scathing, more praising. Hmm?”

His grin was answer enough.
