One year later
Daemion and Heleanas chambers
"Have you thought of any names yet?" Rhaenyra asked Heleana.
"We have." Heleana smiled and massaged her 9 month pregnant belly. "For a boy, Daemion and I have decided on calling him Maelor, and for a girl, we've decided to call her Maella."
"Those are beautiful choices." Rhaenyra said. She watched as her granddaughter Daenerys was playing with her knight made of dragon bone. "She never gets tired of that toy, does she?"
Heleana looked at her daughter. "She even sleeps with it. I'm sure Daemion knew even when she was in my belly that she would be more knight than lady."
Rhaenyra chuckled. "Yes, well, that only tells me that she's a Targaryen indeed."
"Oof!" Heleana groaned as he felt her baby kicking. "He's very troublesome today."
"He?" Rhaenyra inquired.
Heleana smiled. "Maester Gerardys said the way I'm carrying, it could be a boy. Sister, can I ask you something?"
"Of course." Rhaenyra said.
"Why did you hide Daemions' true father from him?" Heleana asked.
Rhaenyra sighed and cleared her throat. "When Daemion was born, I couldn't sleep. He didn't cry as much as his brothers, but that's not why I couldn't sleep. It's because the thought of someone taking him away from me made me so scared, and when Criston Cole wanted to kill him as a babe, I thought of nothing more than protecting Daemion from this horrible world."
"He loves you. You're his mother, and he will always love you. All he asks from you is honesty." Heleana said. "He will forgive anything you do, but you have to tell him first. He is your son, yes, but he is also your heir. You have to trust him if you wish for him to trust you."
Rhaenyra tearfully nodded and held her sisters hand. "Thank you, Heleana. I want you to know that I'm grateful to you as well. My son couldn't have had a better wife than you."
Heleana smiled. "I love him. I love who he is. I don't care what his parentage is. Daemion Velaryon is my husband and the only man I love."
Rhaenyra smiled and wiped her tears away. "Speaking of which, where is Daemion?"
"He and Daemon are retrieving an egg for the babe." Heleana said.
Dragonmont
"If I knew you were going to be this slow, I would've done this alone." Daemion said.
"Yes, well, if we're going to do this, it's best we do it right." Daemon said.
Daemion chuckled. He then smiled as he found what he was looking for. He took a pick axe and started lightly beating a black hard shell cover and saw three eggs.
"What a beauty. Thank you, Dreamfyre." Daemion smirked at Daemon.
Once Daemion and Daemon left the dragonmont, they were approached by two dragonkeepers.
Dreamfyre maghatan "iÄ arlie clutch. HÄre drÅma. HÄre drÅma." (Dreamfyre brought a fresh clutch. Three eggs. Three eggs.) Daemion removed his bag that had the eggs and handed it to the dragonkeeper. "Ūndegon bona issi placed isse se warming chamber." (See that they are placed in the warming chamber.)
"Rȳ istin, ñuha dÄrilaros." (At once, my prince.) The elder dragonkeeper then revealed a small scroll to Daemon. "Se GiÄñatÄ« maghatan bisa. Ziry sepÄr arrived hen riña baela va driftmark." (The maester brought this. It just arrived from Lady Baela on Driftmark.) The dragonkeepers then left Daemon and Daemion.
"What does it say?" Daemion asked.
"Lord Corlys has been wounded fighting the Triarchy. Vaemond wants Driftmark." Daemon said.
Daemion sighed. "Fuck!"
Chamber of the painted table
Heleana watched as her daughter was pulling Jofferys hair.
"Daenerys that not nice." Heleana chuckled.
"Hair!" The 3 year old exclaimed.
"Yes it's Jofferys hair. You have your own." Heleana said and Daenerys let go of Jofferys hair.
Rhaenyra smiled and saw Daemon and Daemion enter. "Leave us." She told Jace, and her handmaiden.
"Joffery. Come." Jace said and the handmaiden picked Daenerys up. They then left.
Heleana could see that her husband looked upset. "What's wrong?"
Daemon handed the letter to Rhaenyra. "He means to call in Jace' legitimacy, and by extension, Daemion and by extension my own claim to the throne."
"Vaemond only cares about Driftmark, and the Velaryon line, not about our politics." Daemon said.
"Has Vaemond made common cause with Otto Hightower yet?" Daemion asked.
"It is what I fear." Rhaenyra told her son. "Rhaenys had flown to court. Surely she cannot be planning to back him?"
"No." Daemon said. "Whatever disagreements we may have had, she's not cruel, or stupid enough to do that-"
"Disagreements? She believes that we had her son killed so that we could marry." Rhaenyra pointed out.
"Yes, and yet she's taken Baela to ward." Daemon said.
"Yes it is Laenas memory she honors. She has no love for us." Rhaenyra stated.
"Has the vipers venom spread so far?" Daemon asked.
"Those vipers rule in my father's name, and my father..." Rhaenyra trailed off. She then looked at her son and his wife. "Daemion. Vaemond wants Driftmark, and if he wins I don't know how long it will be before the realm turns on us." She then walked to her eldest son. "If you tell me that we shouldn't fight, then we'll stay here... away from the politics."
Daemion looked at his mother. He and Heleana still haven't chosen sides, and today they had to go to King's Landing since it was Alicent ans Viserys' turn to host Daemion, Heleana and Daenerys. Daemion was lost. He wanted protect his family, but he didn't want to be a part of any of this.
Daemion looked at his wife and lightly touched her pregnant belly. Heleana smiled and put her hand on his. He knew that he had to fight for his wife and daughter.
"What choice do we have?" Daemion asked his mother.
"To King's Landing then?" Daemon smirked.
"I'll have our dragons saddled." Daemion said.
King's Landing
Lynoras chambers
"That's so well done, my children." Lynora said as she watched her son and daugter play with their toys.
Just then Tyland Lannister entered the room.
"Daughter." He greeted.
"Father." Lynora greeted back.
"I've heard that you are not performing your wifely duties of late." Tyland said.
"Well as my father, I'd be more than happy to tell you how Aegon does know his way around a your daughters body." Lynora said.
"No. Please. I only wish to find out the reason." Tyland said.
Lynora scoffed. "Aegon fucks whores every night, but he still doesn't know his way around a woman's body. If he could leave his whores for a while and focus on my desires, I might not find him as weak and pathetic as everyone else does."
"You're duty is to bare his children, daughter. Your desires come second." Tyland pointed out.
"Look at me, father. I'm a young woman. Arguably more beautiful than the queen herself. I refuse to subject myself to only be... tolerated." Lynora spat.
"What would you have me do?" Tyland asked.
"Aegon is your son by law and you have the Hands favor. I'm sure you'll think of something." Lynora said.
Outside
Rhaenyra and her family had arrived in King's Landing and they saw that no one was there to receive them.
"All hail Rhaenyra of House Targaryen. Princess of Dragonstone and heir to the Iron Throne, and her royal consort Prince Daemon Targaryen!" Ser Steffon Darklyn announced.
Rhaenyra and her family stepped out of the wheelhouse carriage, and Daemion carefully helped his pregnant wife.
Suddenly Lord Caswell walked to them. He immediately bowed at their presence and held Rhaenyras hand.
"Lord Caswell.: Rhaenyra greeted. As they walked through the castle they noticed some changes in the year that has passed. "I would say it's nice to be home, but I scarcely recognize it."
"Mm." Daemon agreed.
"I need to see grandsire." Daemion said.
"Perhaps you should get Heleana and Daenerys settled in, and after you could join me and Daemon in your grandsires chambers?" Rhaenyra suggested and Daemion nodded.
Aegons chambers
Alicent had just come from her chambers to give a young handmaiden some gold and moontea. Unfortunately the girl was sexually assaulted by her eldest son, Aegon. She looked in disgust at her sleeping son.
"Get up." Alicent demanded. "Get up!" The queen yelled and pulled the sheets off him, revealing his naked body.
"What is it?" Aegon yawned.
"What is it? What is it? Is that all you've got to say for yourself?!" Alicent furiously asked.
"Did something happen?" Aegon calmly asked.
"Dyana." Alicent said.
"Who?" Aegon asked.
"The serving girl..." Alicent said. Aegon groaned as he was falling asleep. "For the gods sake. The girl, Aegon. The one you sent fleeing from your company!"
"Oh it was just harmless fun." Aegon sat up and rubbed his eyes. "She didn't need to go and get upset about it."
"Think of the shame on your wife! Or me! How can you keep carrying on like this? Especially on a day like today!" Alicent yelled.
Aegon got out of bed. "Oh! Why? what is it today?" He asked and Alicent slapped her son in his face.
"You are no son of mine." Alicent whispered and walked away.
"I did not ask for this." Aegon said. "I've done everything you've asked me to, and I try so... I try so hard, but it will never be enough for you or father."
Just then Lynora entered. "You're not dressed yet?" She sighed. "Have you seen Dyana? She's supposed to dress my children."
Alicent rushed to Lynora and hugged her. "I'm so sorry, dear girl. Have you seen Heleana?"
"Yes, I have. It's why I want to know where Dyana is." Lynora said.
Alicent broke the hug and looked at Lynora. Since Heleanas been gone, Alicent had gotten closer to Lynora and the Lannister lady saw Alicent as a mother figure to her as well.
"I'll have Talya dress the children. I'm going to see Rhaenyra." Alicent then left her sons chambers.
"What did you do?" Lynora asked her husband.
"Nothing to concern yourself with." Aegon said.
"What did you do to Dyana?" Lynora asked.
"I fucked her... till she cried." Aegon said.
Lynora was horrified. "You raped her... didn't you?" Aegon said nothing. A single tear fell down Lynoras face. "I've always known you've had other women in her, but this... Lynora walked to her husband and smacked him. You're a fucking monster." She then walked away.
Daemion and Heleanas chambers
"How are you feeling?" Daemion asked as he watched the servants place their bags on the floor.
"Heavy." Heleana chuckled. "Come sit with me." Daemion smiled and joined her on their bed. "What's bothering you?"
"The petition. If Vaemond wins, my mother won't be able to keep us safe anymore." Daemion said. "Her status as heir would be questioned and the throne will be given to Aegon without a fight."
Heleana rested her head on Daemions shoulder. "Perhaps you could ask Ser Criston for help?"
"No. Even if I wanted to, he's bitterness outweighs his need to help his... to help us." Daemion said.
"What do you wish to do?" Heleana asked.
"First I want to spend some time with you, and our daughter." Daemion watched Daenerys play with her knight. "Then I wish to see the king."
Heleana placed her hand on Daemions face and pulled him down to her lips. They then passionately kissed until they were interrupted by a knock on the door.
"Lady Lynora, my prince." Ser Lorent announced.
Daemion groaned. "Let her in, Ser."
Lynora entered with her son and daughter. "My prince. My princess." She greeted.
"Lady Lynora." Heleana greeted.
"What might we do for you, my lady?" Daemion asked.
"I was hoping to speak with you." Lynora said. "I haven't seen you in a year and I was hoping we could... catch up while the children play." She looked at Heleanas swollen belly. "It seems you have much to tell me."
"I'll see to the king." Daemion said. He then planted a kiss on Heleanas lips, and walked to his daughter and kissed her on the top of her head. Daemion then left the room.
Viserys chambers
Daemion walked into his grandfather's room and found his mother alone with the king.
"Where's Daemon?" Daemion asked.
"I truly don't know." Rhaenyra said. "I don't think he could bear seeing his brother like this."
"What do you mean?" Daemion asked.
"Come." Rhaenyra led her son to see the king in his bed.
Daemion was horrified by the sight of his grandfather. "What did they do to him?"
I truly don't know. All I know is the Hightowers rule in his stead." Rhaenyra said.
"We cannot let this continue, mother." Daemion said.
"I know, but I think it's too late. The worst is done." Rhaenyra said.
Daemion walked past his mother to his grandfather. "Grandsire. It's me. It's Daemion."
"D... Daemion. My... pride." Viserys wheezed.
"I'm so sorry. I should've stayed here." Daemion said.
"You wouldn't have lived if you did." Viserys said. "My time is done. Yours is only beginning."
"I still need you." Daemion started tearing up.
"My boy." Viserys wheezed. "You never needed me."
Rhaenyra placed a comforting hand on her sons shoulder. "Father there's something we wish to tell you."
"What is that?" Viserys asked.
Rhaenyra nodded at Daemion. "Heleana is pregnant again." Daemion said.
"Oh. I'm so happy for you, Daemion." The king said.
"Thank you. I need you to live, grandsire. I need you to fight." Daemion said.
"I... I will." Viserys said and fell asleep.
Daemion stood up and faced his mother. Rhaenyra could see the anger in her sons eyes and she hugged him.
"Shh. I'm here, Daemion. I'm here." Rhaenyra comforted her eldest son.
Training yard
A few hours later
Daemion, Jace and Luke watched as Ser Criston was bested by their uncle Aemond in a sparring match.
"Well done, my prince." Ser Criston congratulated. "You'll win tourneys in no time."
"I don't give a shit about tourneys." Aemond said. "Nephews, would you like to train? Daemion still owes me a match."
The crowd looked at Rhaenyras sons. Even Jace and Luke waited for Daemions response.
"No thank you, uncle. It would be a shame to waste such a beautiful day with violence." Daemion said.
"Perhaps the young prince is too tired." Ser Criston spoke up. "Raising a child does make one sloth."
Daemion smirked. "My pride won't be wounded if I lose, but when I win, your pupil will feel nothing, but shame. So will you as his trainer."
"Prove it then." Ser Criston challenged.
"Very well." Daemion walked to Ser Criston and held out his hand. "Your morningstar."Â Ser Criston looked at his son in anger, and gave his chained mace to Daemion. Daemion then turn to face Aemond. "When you're ready, uncle." Aemond started swinging and Daemion. The onlookers watched as Daemion was flowing elegantly as he dodged every one of Aemonds attacks. Daemion saw an opening. He ducked, and wrapped the chain around Aemonds leg. He then pulled it and Aemond fell to the ground. Before Aemond could rise, Daemion pressed his foot on Aemond sword arm and had the handle of the chained mace on Aemonds throat. "Yield?"
Aemond dropped his sword. "Yield." The audience applauded, as did Jace and Luke. Daemion helped Aemond up and walked to Ser Criston.
"Such a beautiful weapon shouldn't be in the hands of a bitter man like you." Daemion handed the mace to its owner.
Suddenly the gates opened and Vaemond Velaryon walked through them with some knights. He glared at Lucerys and Aemond smirked.
Daemion and Heleanas chambers
"I'm truly happy you're here, princess." Lynora said.
"It's only for 3 years." Heleana pointed out.
"Yes well three years is better than nothing, I suppose. You're the only friend I have." Lynora said.
"How are things with you and Aegon?" Heleana asked.
Lynora sighed. "I don't know. I hate him, but he gave me children whom I love with all my heart. Have you ever felt that way?"
"No." Heleana smiled. "Daemion has never made me angry or hate him." She looked at her daughter, and massaged her pregnant belly. "He's the man for me. I love him, and he will make a great king one day."
"I am happy for you." Lynora said. "Where will you go after?"
"I don't know. Daemion wanted us to go to Dorne, but I think I'll go alone." Heleana said.
"Why is that?" Lynora asked.
Heleana looked at Lynora. "We'll have no choice."
Lynora raised an eyebrow. She was always confused when Heleana would make statements like these, but she enjoyed spending time with the Targaryen princess.
A few hours later
Heleana and Daemion were finished making love and Heleana laid on her husband's chest.
"I'm not competing, but I think Daenerys loves me more." Daemion chuckled.
"Really?" Heleana asked.
"Hmm. "She said I wuv you papa most". It melted my heart." Daemion said.
Heleana chuckled. "I believe she's just like you were when you were a boy."
"Yes well, she's as beautiful as her mother." Daemion said.
"She'll have many suitors." Heleana said.
"Well if those suitors do not meet my expectations, I'll tell them to study to become a high septon instead." Daemion said. He then sighed. "I'm worried about the morrow."
"Have you seen the king?" Heleana asked.
"I have. He looks like a different person. It's as if the court hastened his demise." Daemion said.
"I'm so sorry, my love." Heleana apologized. What they didn't know was Rhaenyra was on the outside listening to them.
"I'm afraid we won't win this petition." Daemion said. "If we lose, our family will be in danger. Daenerys and our babe will be in danger. You will be in danger."
"I know you'll protect us." Heleana said. "You always have."
