Chapter 8-
It had been 3 weeks since our second date, almost 2 months since we'd met, and Trent and I were still seeing each other.
I was surprised everyday how well we got along. I know, I know. You should never judge a book by its cover but sometimes you cannot help it. Elise was just over the moon that some hot guy finally noticed me. I am capable of getting a handsome man's attention thank you very much!
Last night when Trent and I were talking on the phone I had asked him if he wanted to meet Paige. He was surprised but said yes. Some people would say it's too soon, but Trent and I got along really well so far, I like spending time with him, and I know Paige is mature for her age and would enjoy meeting the 'pretty boy'.
We had decided on doing a picnic today, because it was Saturday and Paige and I usually spent some of the day at the park anyway. Paige and I were sitting at the table eating breakfast and we were going to meet Trent in 3 hours at the park. I just needed to tell her.
"Munchkin?"
Paige looked up from her cheerios "Yeah, daddy?"
"What do you think about meeting Trent?"
"You mean that pretty guy?"
I chuckled "Yes, that pretty guy."
She shrugged and spooned some cheerios into her mouth "Okay."
I raised my eyebrow "Okay? Are you sure?"
"Yea, daddy."
"What about a picnic at the park today with Trent?"
"Can we go on he swings and eat peanut butter sammiches?" she asked with a serious look.
I smiled at her and ate a bite of toast "Sure munchkin."
I stood up and put my plate in the sink "Finish up your cheerios while I make a call, okay?"
"Okay."
I walked into the living room and sat on the couch as I unlocked my phone. I tapped Recents and hit Trent's name. It rang a few times before he answered. I smiled.
"Hello?" he sounded irritated.
"Hey it's me."
His voice softened "Hey, what's up?"
"Watching Paige finish breakfast, are you okay?"
"Oh, yea. Just work. So, are we still on for today?" and I could hear the smile in his voice.
"Yep, she demands peanut butter sandwiches and swings." I laughed.
He did the same "I'm sure we can work with that."
"Alright, so we'll meet you there in a couple hours?"
"Sounds good."
"Okay, bye."
"Bye."
I hung up and put the phone on our coffee table. A few minutes later Paige ran in and jumped on the couch next to me. I looked over at her "So should we watch Lion King and then make our picnic lunch for the park?"
"I'll put it in!" and she jumped off the couch to run over to the DVD player. She had learned how to do it about 3 months ago and insisted on doing it every time. It cracked me up.
She grabbed the remote and jumped back onto the couch "Turn it on daddy!"
I laughed at her antics and grabbed the remote to do just that. Pretty soon we were singing hakuna matata and she was crying over Mufasa's death. She had seen this movie a dozen times, but still cried. She loved it though. A couple hours later we were finishing up the picnic lunch, which included sandwiches like she asked. Diet coke, apples, carrots, pasta salad for Trent and me, cupcakes for dessert and a couple other things.
"Paige grab a jacket and we'll go!" I yelled down the hall.
"Okay!" she ran out of her room a minute later and we walked out the front door.
I locked it and we got into the car.
We pulled into the park paring lot about 20 minutes later, and I grabbed the basket out of the back seat while Paige jumped out and ran to my side of the car. I grabbed her hand and we walked into the park, I looked around for a few minutes and smiled when I saw him.
"C'mon munchkin, he's over there."
She started skipping ahead when she saw the table he was at and sat down in front of him a minute before I reached them.
"So, do you like my daddy?" I heard as I walked up. I rolled my eyes and blushed when Trent smiled at me. Curse my sensitive cheeks! ...That came out wrong...
Trent turned back to Paige with the smile still on his face "Yeah, I do. I like him a lot."
She nodded "That's good. Can I go swing now daddy?"
"Sure munchkin, stay where I can see you."
"Okay, daddy." And she ran off.
Trent chuckled and I turned to him with a smile.
"Thanks for meeting us here."
He leaned over and gave me a quick kiss "No problem."
"Ewww." We heard and turned to see a little girl running off while giggling.
We laughed and I sat the basket down on the table.
"She'll get hungry in a few minutes and then we can eat together if that's okay?"
"Yea that's fine."
He grabbed my hand and caressed my palm with his thumb.
I kept an eye on Paige as we talked.
"I missed you the last couple nights." He said. He looked...nervous.
"Aww how cute." I teased and he glared.
"Never mind."
I laughed "I'm sorry, I was just kidding. I missed you too."
"Good."
I rolled my eyes and we smiled.
"So, do you think she'll like me?"
I squeezed his hand "I don't see why not; I like you and she's my daughter- so she should like you too."
"Oh, you like me eh?"
I narrowed my eyes playfully "Maybe, maybe not."
He scoffed "Don't lie."
I saw Paige running towards us, so I winked at him and let go of his hand.
"Daddy, I'm hungry!"
I nodded and Trent opened the basket.
"Peanut butter sandwich milady?"
She giggled and nodded. He winked at her and handed the sandwich over.
I smiled at them and handed him a container of pasta salad.
"Mm looks good."
I grabbed my container and we all started eating. I gave Paige some apples and a couple carrots, just to keep it somewhat healthy.
She munched on both while we were eating and laughing.
"So, Paige how old are you?"
She held up 4 fingers to answer Trent's question and smiled while she munched on a small carrot.
"When's your birthday?"
"Its March 16th."
"Oh, that's close to my birthday. My birthday is March 10th."
I raised my eyebrow "Oh really?"
He nodded and took one last bite.
"But you're not 4." Paige pointed out.
He laughed "No, I'm 25."
"That's old." And she scrunched her nose.
"Hey!" I mock glared at her "That's only two years older than me."
She smiled and cocked her head "Then you're old daddy."
Trent threw his head back and laughed while I glared at him.
He looked at Paige and held his hand out "High five milady."
She giggled and slapped his hand with her own.
Maybe this really would work out...
One can hope.
